McCainPain for Change

I'm certain many will find holes in my logic but I'm convinced we need McCain to really change. Let me explain. We are all aware of the woes facing our country. A seemingly endless war in Iraq while bin Laden lives and an economy caving in from all sides--stock market, housing market, unemployment--are just a couple. My biggest concern is our national debt doubling under Bush from five trillion to ten in eight short years. But from what I can tell the average American only whines about how much it costs to fill their gastank. We still aren't truly convinced that the policies of the last eight years were wrong or why would it actually even be a close race between Obama and McCain? So let's let McCain really bleed us. More tax cuts for the rich while spending billions fighting a war in the wrong country. More bailouts for companies and bonuses for CEO's who have failed while Americans continue cutting their household budgets. We obviously need some more pain before we DEMAND real change and our elected leaders hear us. Otherwise poor Obama is going to be expected to clean up this mess without the power--a mandate from the voters--to do anything but use band-aids for a neccessary surgery.

Internet

Where was I when internet access became a practical necessity? This nearly unperceivable reliance must’ve crept up on me. I’ve had the misfortune of losing my internet connection for over a week now and I had no idea how it would affect my everyday life. My mother was perturbed I hadn’t responded to her e-mail telling me my uncle had died. The ex-wife has been “forced” to use the telephone to contact me and my girlfriend was miffed I “didn’t even notice” the comments she left for me on MySpace. The clincher was when my ISP suggested I go to their website online to find out why I am not online. How can I live in a large city with a neighborhood mailperson and a phone beside my bed and still feel isolated without the internet.
Communication with loved ones isn’t the only thing hampered by being offline. I realized I no longer own a set of encyclopedias or even a paper dictionary. More disturbing is I can’t recall when I discarded my old stereo set in favor of Win Amp and its endless choices of radio stations.
Perhaps worst of all is the need to borrow friends’ computers. I am taking three online courses at the local college and I have no choice but to impose on others in order to complete these classes. Although these are good friends, you’d think I’d asked to borrow their toothbrush. After experiencing the loss of the internet myself, I guess I can empathize with their protectiveness.

My First Blog

I must be frank and candid. I see blogs as nothing more than people believing they have a right to be heard...that their opinions matter. Don't get me wrong; I am certain we all have experiences and knowledge that can benefit each other. Perhaps blogging is a new forum for those interchange of ideas that were historically held in places where people congregated: the town square or hall, the public house, the grange. The need to exchange bits of our lives with others is part of being human and likely cathartic. Whether anyone reads it, and communication exists,is irrelevant. I got to rant, if even in my own mind. Perhaps Ive found a forum for this. I can already see the benefits.
