Tonight on the harbor there's going to be a great fireworks display in honor of Guy Fawkes' botched attempt to blow up the British parliament. People will probably be burning effigies of him as well. My kind of holiday.
In other news, two of my flatmates just left for home this morning. They were good people and I'll miss them. We came to New Zealand in the dead of winter and now they're leaving for the states where it is now, in fact, winter. Didn't think that one through did ya guys?

favorite republican smear ad

With the mid-term election only days away you can expect there to be some pretty intense mud slinging ads coming from both sides of the aisle. My favorite has to be from Wisconsin where the Republican candidate Paul Nelson has some pretty interesting things to say about Democratic congressman Ron Kind. I couldn't believe it either, but here it is all the same. Try not to laugh, or at least say to yourself, "WTF!"
quote:
Congressman Ron Kind has repeatedly voted to deprive our troops of the funding they need to fight for us, but Ron Kind has no trouble spending your money. He would just rather spend it on sex. That‘s right. Instead of spending money on cancer research, Ron Kind voted to spend your money to study the sex lives of Vietnamese prostitutes. Instead of spending money to study heart disease, Ron Kind spent your money to study the masturbation habits of old men. Ron Kind spent your tax dollars to study something called the "bisexual, transgendered and two-spirited Aleutian Eskimos," whoever they are. Ron Kind even spent your tax dollars to pay teenage girls to watch pornographic movies with probes connected to their genitalia. Ron Kind pays for sex, but not for soldiers.

Today I feel vapid and useless. After a lovely evening of binge drinking with other fellow final exam ridden students, I awoke this morning hating life, the world, and all of its passengers. It's now almost 6:30pm and I've yet to do one thing productive other than shower. When the office opens and a few minutes I'll head over there to procure some coveted dryer tokens and perhaps put on a load of laundry.
I didn't come to New Zealand to spend entire days in bed. Tomorrow I'm going to get my 'a' into 'g' and accomplish something enriching and meaningful, or so I say now. Although I guess it was a legit cause for celebration.
And another plus of the evening was that, thanks to my flatmate Nicole's big shoplifter purse, we have now almost fully restocked or previously exasperated stolen bar glass collection. Go team!

The other day I went to this great little asian market and bought three avocados for only two dollars. I'm making avocado milkshakes tonight!
