as they say...
board up the windows
install deadbolts and
double-thick blinds
reset the security system
and use razor-wire
atop your unscalable wall
and train the dogs.

hang garlic cloves and
sharpen stakes and
invest in holy water,
crosses, and exorcists
cover your mirrors
memorize bible verses
and whatever you do
don't spill the salt.


(the overkill is flattery
for the beast who had
yet to even bare her teeth
but now...
now she sees the artery.)
