Aeon Flux is a mysterious and amoral secret agent from the country of Monica. Her motives or background are left unexplained, as are those of her her antagonist/love, Trevor Goodchild. On her missions, she deals swift, bloody "justice" to all that oppose her. The second season episodes of this series were unique in that Aeon died at the end of every single episode.

In an animation style that more resembles a comic book than anything else, Aeon Flux, an undercover agent runs missions ranging from dangerous to outright surreal in a society in the distant future.

The first thing you will notice in this film is that most of the characters are sickly thin in apparent mockery of the waif look. Every character's features are so exaggerated that they're ugly. It prevents you from really rooting for any of them, which is only appropriate for this future society. There is very little dialogue, especially in the shorts. The films rely almost entirely on physical action to advance the plot, which is done brilliantly. The action is very intriguing and will appeal to mystery fans or puzzle addicts who enjoy figuring things out.

There is no particular theme or message associated with this collection of films. It's all escapism of a very pure sort. At no point do you feel manipulated or misled. Each new scene brings something unexpected and often surreal. "War" is a personal favourite, a short in which Aeon is a prisoner inside the enemy camp. Handcuffed, she makes a daring escape attempt while an ally distracts the guard, only to be killed within the first minute of the film. The plot then follows the actions of her killer, and as he gets killed turns to his killer, and her killer and so on...

Fans of comic books will not have let this one slip by. I would also recommend it for science fiction fans who enjoy a little mystery and action in their sci-fi. There's not much romance, and what there is of it is pretty gross and off-putting, as was intended by the series creators. The original short films are the best of the Aeon Flux projects, so I would recommend seeing only this first video.
