Hello My Friend/Guest,

It is Monday January 14, 2008 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Genesis. Please read, Genesis 40-42. In today's lesson we will read and learn about Joseph interpreting dreams; and Joseph made a ruler over Egypt.

Although Joseph was innocent of any crime, he endured all the shame and punishment of the dungeon with amazing confidence and peace, knowing that the Lord was with him. Thirteen years had passed since Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery. Following that horrifying ordeal, he experienced many pitiful disappointments. Consider his many lonely nights suffering as an innocent prisoner and although Joseph spent many years as a slave he never became bitter. He remained faithful to the Lord.

God was able to accomplish His purpose through the wrath of Pharaoh against two of his officers who were thrown in prison with him. "And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers. And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound. And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward." (Genesis 40:2-4). The men with him had dreams that saddened them and through God Joseph interpreted them, which came true three days later. (See 42:5-23)

Joseph was called to interpret Pharaoh's dreams. "Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it. And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace." (41:14-16) Because the Lord interpreted the dreams through Joseph, Pharaoh acknowledged him as the wisest man in Egypt. (See 41:14-36).

This former outcast then received Pharaoh's own ring as a sign of his new authority as second ruler over all the land of Egypt. "And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt." (41:39-43)

God's timing is always perfect even though it may appear that He is not in a hurry to fulfill His Word or deliver His servants from distress. Instead, He often allows much suffering and years of waiting to prepare us for the life that He has chosen for us. We may endure months or even years when it may appear that God either does not care about us or cannot do anything about our circumstances, but those who remain faithful to Him through it all will be blessed abundantly. The faithless critic blames God for his problems and complains: "Why me?" However, God has amazing ways of developing our talents, maturing us spiritually, and honoring all who remain faithful to Him through our suffering.

In today's lesson Jesus Christ is revealed by the wisdom of Joseph. We are to be comforted to the acknowledgment of Christ; In Whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Today's Psalm: (30:5)
"For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with this day and thank you for the many blessings you give me each day. Lord, although I do not understand You at times I know that during my struggles and hardships that You are working in me. You are preparing me for great things ahead. Lord, walk with me, guide me, and protect me as I go about my day. Give me the strength to endure the coming day and give me peace knowing that You are with me and will not forsake me. I will put my complete trust and faith in You and You alone for with You all things are possible. In Jesus' name, I pray......Amen.

Have a great and wonderful week.
God Bless,
Christina
