Yes! Penumbra is a free pc game!
Lately I have been playing Penumbra a free horror game that plays alot like Half Life 2 in physics, but reminds me alot of Doom 3 and Resident Evil. Penumbra is a pretty awesome game, it has its little puzzles but nothing too complicated and the graphics and music are rather cool themselves.

As stated on the homepage of the official website: Penumbra is a horror adventure game featuring state of the art graphics and makes heavy use of physics. Penumbra was created as a technology development project, with the aim to explore new uses of physics in games.

Development: Penumbra was created by a small team of students, four people to be exact and a couple of helpers that did specific tasks such as voice-overs and music. We worked on the project between September 2005 and April 2006, the engine is completely in-house developed. Parties interested in more information are welcome to contact us through e- mail.
