A new technology is out from your friends at Google. Welcome Googles new (beta) project. Google Scholar using this search technology to find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the web.

As stated by Yahoo News, Google Scholar is:

Google Scholar uses new algorithms to send back results most relevant to the search request. Google has no plans to charge for the service, and it will not use it to send back text-based advertising as part of the search results.

One Google engineer who worked on the project said that "Google has benefited a lot from scholarly research, so this is one way we are giving back to the scholarly community."
