How to Convert an .MDF File to .ISO
Posted by David • May 31st, 2007 11:26:35 am - Subscribe | Mood: good | Music: Alizee - La Isla Bonita
Explains how to convert a .MDF file to .ISO file extension
To do this simply rename the .MDF file extension to .BIN at which point you can burn, or if you like to convert to .ISO. (Yes I know you can burn an .MDF file too) Do the following.
Find software like MagicISO and convert it. At this point there is no easy .BIN to .ISO and if you do know post a comment.
Hope this helps.

The problem with Magic ISO and some of the other copying programs is that some of the new copy protection on legit software will disable you from using it if Magic ISO and other programs like it are installed. These programs install and run at kernel mode level.

With PowerISO there's no need to change the file name. Just open this tiny app, browse for the .MDF file (not the .MDS) select it, and do a "Save as". PowerISO recognises .MDF files (from Alcohol120%), and when you do the "Save as" it saves the file in .ISO by default.
If you just want to burn the image it is even more easy, just browse for the .MDF file and click the "Burn" icon in the app.
If you want to add files to the original image file is cool too, do it in the app interface before you do the "Save as" operation. If your image is a bootble image it will still be after the procedure, no worry.
If think UltraISO and MagicISO work the same way, but I'm not shore.

Beware, often mdf images are ripped from protected discs using special techniques to preserve the protection, if you convert it to iso keep the original mdf, just in case the programs inside don't work anymore due to the missing copyprotection!

OKAY PEOPLE, THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. YOU'LL NEED ALCOHOL 120%. YOU HAVE 2 FILES: MDF AND MDS. MOUNT THE ONLY ONE THAT IT ALLOWS YOU TO ONTO YOUR VIRTUAL DRIVE. THEN CREATE AN ISO FILE FROM THAT DRIVE. THEN BURN THE ISO FILE ONTO A CD.

Pluse the new file types make it hard to Run my PSX emulator. but the best way I have found to deal with MDF files is to get 120% and mount on Vert drive. then make the Emulator run from CD and put the Vert as you drive. works better that way and also you can just run programs off the Vert.

Just run Magic Iso and in the Tools tab you'll find Convert. when i tried to convert it into an ISO, for some reason the Iso did not work, so i converted it into BIN. Now its working fine.

hello. I have read through, plus read other pages of info. I still have a question. My downloaded game has 4 folders, each with 1x mdf and 1 x mds. I have both power and magic iso. I right click, I get options of "add to image file" or add to "game"2.1.daa (for poweriso). Magiciso says add to image file or add to "game"2.1.uif.
Which do I do? Or do I go to the application and mount from there? What do I do with the 4 game folders? I am that confused I don't even know what questions to ask!

With PowerISO there's no need to change the file name. Just open this tiny app, browse for the .MDF file (not the .MDS) select it, and do a "Save as". PowerISO recognises .MDF files (from Alcohol120%), and when you do the "Save as" it saves the file in .ISO by default."
If you alreayd have powerISO, open the program, go to file --> open, select the .mdf file, and choose save as... . Like said above, it automatically saves it as an .ISO, a file format everyone seems to be familiar with.
From the .ISO format, do what you'd like (mount with powerISO, in my opinion). Enjoy.

For iso files you only need the mdf
The mds file is useless - it holds parameters that iso files can't store.
Forget the mds file already!

This is really easy - Before you download anything, check the file type. If it says .mdf or some other smegma, then don't download it. Jesus what utter losers! Illegally download a file then run out of brain cells in knowing what to do with it. How the hell do you know it's not a bundle of viruses. For fuck's sake........

April 07th, 2010
Ok, after much hassle, I was finally able to do convert bin to iso. Thanks to all who helped this thread. but now once iso is mounted, what do i do? How do I play/extract the files from iso image? What program do I use? My mounted iso image is audio cd. The cue file has tacks numbers like track 1, 2 and so on. please advice as to 'what' program to use to play/extract the audio tracks from iso image. I tried alzip on iso and iso gets converted back to bin where from I started??? I am going in circles! All I want to do is extract the tracks from bin/iso and save them as mp3 so i can play on my ipod. Thanks.
anonymous Says:
April 07th, 2010
Steps: Originally downloaded file was a zip file. I unzipped it with Alzip and got bin/cue files. Then with Alcohol 120 I converted them to mds/mdf files. Then with PowerISO converted them to iso files. And now if I was to use Alzip to open ISo I get back bin file??? I am back to where I started from? I am going between bin and iso files! Now I have two separate versions/files - bin and iso. My question is which/what program I use to see/play the audio tracks from this bin/iso image and eventually extract and save these audio tracks as mp3 files? How do I acheive this? If I click extract on this iso file in PowerISo, I get bin file! If I use Alzip on iso then also I get bin file! This is what (bin file) I had to begin with! So how can I or what program I use once I mount iso in powerISo to extract the audio which is in these bin/iso files and save them as mp3 is my question. Can someone please help. Thanks.

Hey, Mr. "I've got my image converted but how do I extract the audio to mp3"! Again, it's not rocket science, just burn the damn image to disc LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO. as said before, simply rename the .mdf file extension to .iso and all should work in ALL players
OR go 1 step further and extract the iso.to it's core file
