Yesterday (Sunday) Priscilla and I purchased a Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router. First off I would like to tip my hat to my old Linksys Etherfast Cable / DSL Rounter for all the years of service. TY Linksys. happy.gif

We have 3 computers in our home network. Two of them are desktops and the other a laptop, which should be arriving in the next few days. Rather than purchasing 2 more wireless ethernet cards, I was seeking a wireless router that could filter connect via hardwire cat5 cable, and wirelessly. After purchase and 3 hours or so of troubleshooting the damn thing I finally got it to work. There was no use in using the setup wizard. (it crashed after several attempts) It totally sucked, and the Linksys Easy Software only updated the firmware. Good ol'192.168.1.1 was a perfect help.

Quick install
1. 192.168.1.1 > Mac Address Clone > Enable > Clone Your Pc's Mac > Save Settings.
2. Start > run > cmd > ok > ping > aeonity.com

About the router
The Linksys Wireless-G broadband router is really three devices in one box. First, it's a wireless access point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G broadband router can encrypt all wireless transmissions, and it supports the industrial-strength wireless security of 802.1x authentication and authorization. The router can serve as a DHCP server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility.

With the Linksys Wireless-G broadband router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multiplayer games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

Wireless-G is the 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's more than four times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. But since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment.

Congrats on the new router...although i'm not too high on Linksys. After buying a linksys router a few months ago, i had so many troubles even getting it to work first and some time after that that I took it back and got a belkin 802.11g, got it all connected to the 3 desktops in my house and a wireles connection to my brothers laptop in less than an hour. I recently got some new hardware for my mac, go check out my blog.

I found that going wirless even for adding another desktop was ideal for my house. The cost of cables and the inconvenience of running cables and such was outweighed by the simplicity of wirless. I plugged in a Belkin usb wirless adapter and in 15 minutes was on the network no problems.

Make sure that you do not have an active firewall enabled. Have you tried the quick install information as stated above?
