I did this back when the service first started, and my phone is greatful for it. Give it a try, and pass this along to friends and family.

National Do Not Call Registry - The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

(This also works for cellphones also)

I've done it on my cell as well as my parents. It stops sales, but survey's and donation requests still come in.

At which point you can state 'Take me off your list'. Once that is said, their company is binded by law to remove you from their system.
