New RAM Upgrade Soon?

I am thinking about upgrading my RAM soon.

RAM currently in my system
Computer Manufacturer & Model: Dell Dimension 8300
Currently Installed Memory: 4 slots:
1 GB, 256 MB, 256 MB, 256 MB
Maximum Memory Capacity: 4.0 GB
Total Number of Memory Slots: 4

Memory Slot 1: 1 GB

Memory Slot 2: 256 MB

Memory Slot 3: 256 MB

Memory Slot 4: 256 MB

The next PC I get will be 64 bit compliant and have PCI express slots. Now that I think about it, perhaps I should wait on the RAM.
