Explains the legend of the Ghost Tracks located on the south side of San Antonio.

The way I am going to explain this story is the way it was told to me, back when I was a child. Simple, easy, and very obscure. Here we go.

It was said that long ago possibly around the 1960's or 1970's. There was a school bus of children from a nearby elementary school located on the south side of San Antonio. While taking the kids back home from the bus with the children suddenly stalled out on the railroad tracks located at:

San Antonio Ghost Tracks Children
2902 Shane Rd
San Antonio, TX 78223, USA

The bus driver frantically tried to restart the bus over and over again but to no prevail. He then told the children to get out of the bus quickly, guiding them ever so quickly. Maybe a handful did make it off the bus that one cold autumn day, many others were not so lucky. The bus driver along with all the other children died upon impact from the train collision.

It is also said that the city streets in the immediate area are named after the dead children that did not make it off the bus. Some of these city streets are as follows:

Ghost Tracks Children Streets
  • Shane Rd
  • Cindy Sue Way
  • Nancy Carole Way
  • Richey Otis Way
  • Bobbie Allen Way
  • Laura Lee Way

These streets are located slightly north east of the tracks in the neighborhood.

What are the San Antonio Ghost Tracks?
Many residents of San Antonio claim that if you park your car upon the tracks, the children will try to push you off saving you from the demise of a train that may come by.

Many people of San Antonio have even put baby powder on the sides and back of there vehicles to see if they can see hand prints. What is strangely odd is that many have seen small children hand prints, even an adult like print that is said to be the bus drivers.

Try the Ghost Tracks for yourself
Simply do the following once you are there. First and foremost do not bother the neighbors in the area, they have no problems calling the police if they are bothered. Ok lets get started:

  • Park your vehicle 20 or so feet from the tracks.
  • Place your vehicle in neutral
  • Remove your foot off the brake slowly
  • Wait patiently, do not expect dramatic results right away.
  • Feel for tugs, pushes, and small jots on your car

If you vehicle stops upon the tracks, there is a 50% chance your vehicle will get pushed all the way. If not wait about 5 minutes or so and try again.

    Conclusion
Are these ghosts track children & bus driver trying to save us from a death like theirs? Or is this simply an urban legend of San Antonio? You can believe what you like, but I am a sucker for the paranormal. happy.gif

Thanks glitterbee! Hopefully we can get some locals, and some out of town people to shed some more light on the urban legends truth.

The tracks are fun but theres also alot of other reasons why people go there such as drugs and partys. The tracks is freaky sight considering the fact that the train still passes by there and there aint no rail signs. the donkey ladys bridge or the devils bridge is scary do some research on that.

i went there once, it works. i don't know how the car goes over the tracks considering it's uphill. just put the car in neutral and it goes over the tracks by itself. weird...
i found this site trying to find an explanation myself.

The Haunted Ghost Tracks aren't real. There is no record ever in San Antonio History or even in Texas History for that matter of any bus full of children ever being hit by a train.
What I find amusing is I now here of this supposedly happening 20 years ago, 20 years ago I was 13 and I heard this story when I was 8. Either way, it never happened.
The adjoining neighborhood is not named after any children who met their demise by a fateful train but in fact the neighborhood is named after the developers.
Of course you will get fingerprints on the back of your car when you powder on it... Your own! How do you think forensic annalists are able to get fingerprints off of anything? Just a dusting of powder makes prints visible where they weren't before. If you washed your car and put powder on the back and got nothing? You wouldn't have because powder doesn't stick to a clean smooth surface.
Now for the illusion... some seem to think that the "ghosts" push your car up hill, over the tracks and down the hill to the right. What actually happens here is if you get out of your car and lay on the road about 4 feet or so away from the tracks (I did it) you will see that the road goes to a slight incline before going slightly up hill giving your car enough momentum to get up and over the tracks. There is no phenomena here, just simple science.

i went yesterday and it was awesome i put babay powder and when i gothome i saw little handprints and finger marks
    anonymous - October 28th, 2007
Yes i think that they are trying to save us from diend from something they died from. Because if this wasn;t the case den they wouldn't be pushing our cars over the tracks

well at first, i didnt believe the whole ghost pushing your car away from the tracks! but one day my sister took a trip out there and she told us about it well i still didnt belive.... till one day we found ourselfs going to visit a friend that lives just half an hour away from the tracks themselfs, so me being so skeptical we went ahead and tryied it and the wiered thing is even if you wash your car before you go there. you will still get the finger prints on the right side of your vehicle for the most part and some on the back, as well as the drivers side but you will actually feel where the children are pushing you away from the tracks! the weird thing is that we got stuck, and they pushed and pushed till the vehicle made it out. of course you have to steer to the right. right away if not you will go straight to a tree. i mean we all have diffrent opinions some belive and some will never belive, its definately a place to visit if you belive in paranormal stuff.

There are no newspaper or death records in San Antonio that verify this school bus wreck story. HOWEVER.. I still firmly believe the tracks are haunted by ghosts, just not by the children in the school bus. I say this because:

About 12 years ago when I was college in San Antonio, a couple of friends and I went to the haunted tracks. It was a calm Fall night and as we were rounding the corner, we saw a glowing orange light coming from the intersection of Shane Rd. and the railroad tracks. As we got closer, we saw a 1950s model Ford pickup truck on the intersection engulfed in flames. We were scared that someone was trapped inside burning to death. We got as close as we could until we got scared that the truck would blow up and hurt us. We looked around the area and did not see a single person. We thought the owner of the truck would be nearby waiting for help, but we saw no one. Then a couple of minutes later a fire truck showed up. But this was not a nice big red fire engine with sirens, firefighters, backup and lights. It was a tiny yellow fire truck with a single light on top. It calmy came around the corner with NO sirens blaring or flashing lights. ONE single fireman was in the truck. He got out , unraveled the firehouse connected to his truck and calmly put out the fire. All the while completely ignoring our existence. We watched him put the fire out, he got back in his truck alone, and left. He never once looked in our direction to see why we were there, if that was our truck, or if perhaps we had something to do with starting the fire. Nothing, it was as if we were not there. He just left. He left the burnt out shell of the pickup on the train tracks and just took off.

We were completely terrified at this point just looking at this old-timey truck black and burnt to a crisp sitting on the haunted train tracks in the middle of the night with some smoke still coming from it.

We got freaked out and left. On our way from the scene we never saw any other law enforcement or fire crews going toward the scene. It was as dark, quiet and eerie as could be.

So what if the train tracks are haunted, but by the ghosts of the people that died in a truck fire decades before? Is it possible we witnessed some sort of elaborate apparition/time travel situation where the ghosts were trying to have the real story told? Who knows? But what I DO know is that I still get chills when I think about that night. And there are two other people that were there with me that night that feel the same way.

my name is carol and i have been to the tracks myself im a sucker for a paranormal experience, i believe they are trying to save us from an incident like theirs and i have been in that neighborhood as well, but just to let u know i believe the hand prints are so true, there was a whole lot of my handprints on my vehicle, while a friend put the car on neutral, me and another friend sat on top of the hood itself, u know u feel something is there and if that does not trip u out, why don't u hear the sound of there footsteps

I must say that I have heard this story for years and I could never believe it. Not even an hour ago, my boyfriend, cousin, and I went and took a drive out there. It was about 1:15 in the morning. We parked in front of the tracks, put the car in neutral, and turned the car off. Now mind you, we are grown ass people and we do not have time to play games, but the shit is real!!! We forgot to put the powder on the car to search for fingerprints, so we are going to definitely go back and see if the results are as told in the legend. I swear it's real. I am still shocked!

If it's true and ghosts push your car out of the way, why are you wasting your time? Not to mention theirs... Would you like to spend eternity pushing dumb ass drunk kid’s cars out of the way of a train? Assuming that you people aren't full of shit, and it is real, seems pretty silly and disrespectful to me. Do you have any idea how many people die in San Antonio, Texas every year? Where are those ghosts? You don’t hear about the ghosts of gun shot victims miraculously preventing people from buying guns. Ha ha ha

I jus came back from the ghost tracks. it was the best. but super creepy. the car moved and stopped on the track. and the second time they pushed us all the way over.
    anonymous - July 13th, 2008
I had quite and experience on the tracks myself.. I didn't believe until one day my friends took me and my sister and asked us to sit next to the window, and as she put the car on neutral she pressed the brakes instead of letting it go easily.... My sister and i couldn't believe what we were hearing.. There is a baseball field accross the tracks but there was nobody there at the time that we were there... we heard voices telling us to go! go! go! but there is one voice that stood out it was a deeper voice... like if they were upset of something.. it was freeky everyone in ther car heard it.. never again did i go back i believe now..

This is a comment from someone who lives on one of the streets named by the Ghost Tracks. There is definitely something eerie back there by the tracks. I've experienced it several times. I have gone over the tracks in neutral and it does work. I never really tried the handprint thing because I always felt that most cars have prints that remain on the trunk. I'm planning on trying it though and will come back and give more comments. I'm actually scared to see the results because I know there are definitely spirits back there. I've never had the guts to do the tracks at night. Too creepy. I've had ghosts as well in my house. I've felt cold rushes below my feet. I've got all kinds of stories I could tell since I've been living in the area for the last ten years. You must believe me though when I say there are spirits back there. Once when San Antonio was flooding, my car was under water and miraculously my son was able to push the car through the water. I believe he had help because once I got in the water myself I realized how hard the car was to push.

I went to check out these Ghost Tracks and I have to admit I was very skeptical. Nothing happened for a long time and we were going to finally leave when we heard a strange noise. I realized the noise we were hearing were the faint rumblings of a train on its way down the track. It was a ways off but I wanted to get off the tracks so I tried to start my car to get things moving. For some reason the engine would just not catch and it took me three tries to finally get the car running. By this time the train had gotten closer and I put it in drive and started to give it some gas. Something was preventing my car from moving and I thought for some reason my car might be hung up on something and tried putting it in reverse to move it that way. The engine strained under the pressure and I could hear the wheels slipping but I was not moving in any direction. I started to panic and gave it some more gas when I started to hear a very strange sound. The sound of hundreds of tiny hands banging on my car. Thats when I realized the rumors of the ghost children were true only these little shits were not trying to help me they were trying to kill me. I started to scream out of panic and floored the car as the train got closer. No more than about 30 feet away the ghost grip on my car gave way as the car surged over the tracks. As soon as I made it over the tracks to safety I stopped the car to catch my breath and try to wrap my head around what just happened. As the last train car went by I and the noise from the locomotive started to wain I could begin to hear the faint sound of laughter. Childrens laughter. The sound of the kids evil giggles grew louder and louder. Those bastards I cursed as I put the car back into drive and sped off.. When I finally got home I told my girl friend what had happened and she looked at me like I was crazy. She knew that I had gone out there that night to test the theory and asked if I had put the baby powder on my car like suggested and I realized that I had but in all the panic and confusion I had failed to check for tiny hand prints. We both went out to the garage to see if there was any evidence of the little pranksters and was dissapointed to find not one little hand print, but written in small childlike letters on the back bumper was "you are gay" Those little assholes I muttered. If they were not already dead I'd kill them myself.
    anonymous - August 15th, 2008
As you start rolling, you are actually going slightly downhill not uphill. The tracks are uphill but by that time you've accumulated enough momentum to make it over the tracks (some of the time). There are no ghost children involved.
