Special Report : Visualise Concert

Delta's Visualize tour officially starts in Perth on July 8th but there was a special warm-up preview performance held in Newcastle on the 3rd July. I was lucky enough to see the concert and I was absolutely amazed! Delta has so much talent. Se has a voice that you will never forget.

The concert was meant to start at 3:00, but it started almost an hour late, which is ok, because it was only a warm up. It started so beautifully with (I wont give away too much) butterfly. She then opened by thanking us for inviting her into our homes by buying her CD's. She then explained that she has now invited us all to her "mobile home" (the entertainment center) to put on a show.

She sang all the favorites, the slower songs and the more upbeat songs where she got everyone up dancing. The costumes were amazing! She got changed in time every time except once where she pulled it off pretty well. There were a few small mishaps, once when her battery pack fell off during "Mistaken Identity" And when she had to wait to get her breath back before she sang after running around the whole center to change stage. But it was still a great performance. During costume changes there were various things shown on the screen like home videos of when she was little which was very cute! She sang some other songs that weren't her own, but I won't spoil it for you! It was very funny.

Being at the concert was an amazing experience. I would recommend getting tickets and going to see her even if you're not a fan because she is just so amazing. Just like an angel. She communicates with the audience well and I think that she had just as much fun as everyone who was watching.

Like A Virgin

Delta's touring for the very first time. Jordan Baker asks how it was for her.

Delta Goodrem uses words like wonderful, excited and happy. She is pretty and joyful onstage, like a fairy princess. Her audience is packed with adoring tweens.

At 20, she has stared death in the face, lost Mark Philippoussis to Paris Hilton and was labelled a homewrecker when she hooked up with Irish spunk Brian McFadden after he left his wife.

Surely Goodrem has hidden depths? What are they? Is Delta the messiah ... or just a very good girl?

When Metro talks to her, she has just played the first gig of her national tour at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre. She was the consummate professional - she played piano, managed umpteen costume changes, breezed through some minor hiccups and threw in some covers, such as Carole King's I Feel the Earth Move.

Was she nervous?

"I was nervous because it was the first show, but very excited that there were so many people in one room,"

She says. "It's not a matter of stage fright. It's more that I want to do the best job I can."

How does she deal with the nerves? Scotch, perhaps? No. Her rider includes tea, water and soft drinks.

"My rooms always have candles and little things that I think are really positive affirmations. Lots of flowers. Little crystal cards. Everything I can think of."

Hmm ... nothing incriminating so far. She found the concert exciting.

"When I see the kids' reactions or people singing along to songs that I've written, it's a really wonderful feeling," she says.

What would Goodrem do if she wasn't a musician?

"I would've been a snow-skier. Going fast and being free on a ski mountain is one of the most beautiful things."

Sounds good to us. She also writes a journal. Of course.

"I can sit in a room by myself no problem, just relax and get centred and think of things. I would say I'm probably very deep like that."

Goodrem's childhood musical influences included Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Olivia Newton-John. But wait, she also likes Kate Bush, Tori Amos and the late Jeff Buckley. She has been learning the drums.

"I love quirky Jeff Buckley songs and introspective lyrics and everything that's very deep and dark and meaningful. My favourite authors are very deep and dark."

When asked if her style and music will evolve into something edgier, like Kylie Minogue before her, she says, "I'm not sure what I'll turn into, but I'll just go with it."

Metro didn't have a chance to further probe Goodrem's deeper, possibly darker side.

After she responded, quite happily, to a question about whether she and McFadden were engaged - "Not yet, we're not; but we're extremely close and very in love" - her minder ended the interview.

You get the feeling Goodrem could be much more interesting if the minders weren't there to protect her.

Classy Delta A Born Performer

If the Delta Goodrem backlash is brewing, no one told the 10,000 fans crammed into Rod Laver Arena last night.

Staging her first tour in arenas may have seemed optimistic to some, but Goodrem made every effort to create intimacy.
A huge catwalk that ran the length of the venue let the talkative Goodrem get close to her adoring fans and turned the back row into the front row.

Clearly thrilled to be finally on tour, Goodrem is a born performer. Male dancers lent the concert an air of part-pantomime, part-pop concert.

Mistaken Identity gave Goodrem a chance to get out from behind the piano, while dramatic hits Not Me Not I and Lost Without You were audience favourites.

With a mostly young female audience, who kept proclaiming their love, Goodrem's classy dress and passion for music make her a welcome role model in an age of soft-porn pop stars.

News : Delta, Brian Hook Up

Delta, Brian Hook Up

After a lovesick two months apart, pop princess Delta Goodrem has been reunited with her pop prince Brian McFadden.

The former Westlife singer flew into Australia this week to join a gushy Goodrem on her Visualise national tour.
"Brian is such an amazing talent, for me to have him sing in front of all these people is such a thrill," Goodrem said.

"It's great he's here."

The lovebirds will take their heartfelt sentiments to the stage when they perform their No.1 duet Almost Here in Sydney next week.

While Goodrem has already played to capacity crowds in Adelaide, Newcastle and Melbourne, ticket sales in her hometown were somewhat sluggish when they first went on sale.

But with her beaming beau by her side, a confident Goodrem took the opportunity to hit out at her "judgmental" critics.

"All that negativity just made me make sure I had the best show possible," Goodrem said.

"These people don't know me, they've never seen me perform. It's a little judgmental. I really feel we've got a great show," she said.

To pay homage to her favourite band Jet, the show includes a surprise cover of rock anthem Are You Gonna Be My Girl, which Confidential hopes will come complete with screaming vocals a la Nic Cester.

After the tour Goodrem heads to the US.

News : Delta and Brian Visualise Reunion

Delta Goodrem has been reunited with boyfriend Brian McFadden.

McFadden flew into Melbourne yesterday to join Goodrem's Visualise national tour.
Tonight's show at Rod Laver Arena will be the first time on the tour he and Goodrem perform their No.1 duet Almost Here on stage.

"Brian is such an amazing talent, for me to have him sing in front of all these people is such a thrill," Goodrem said yesterday.

"It's great he's here in Melbourne. It's where everything started for me. I feel at home in Melbourne -- my whole fast-forwarded life started here."

Despite reports of sluggish ticket sales Goodrem has sold out shows in Adelaide and Newcastle so far.

Her Saturday matinee show at Rod Laver has sold out, with only a handful of tickets left for tonight's show.

"All that negativity just made me make sure I had the best show possible," Goodrem said.

"These people don't know me, they've never seen me perform. It's a little judgmental. I really feel we've got a great show. I couldn't be happier."

The show includes a surprise cover of Jet's rock anthem Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

After the tour Goodrem heads to the US, where Billboard has labelled her "a true gimmick-free talent" and "2005's best new artist".
