Today was possibly one of the weirdest I have had, yet, when working as a home health aide. At least, planning wise.
I arrived at the morning client on time, just like every Wednesday morning, and I see this ambulance in the street. What the.. and it is at HER house.. FUCK.
Neighbor lady was looking out the window waiting for me, and I quickly jumped out of the car and jogged inside, getting an update. They thought a hemorrhage in the brain at that time, with loss of certain bodily functions. Aww crap. That means caring home and loooong recuperation. Truly suckaroo.
I went upstairs where the paramedics were working on her, and found her crying quite a bit, asking me not to leave her son alone with all the work. Don't you worry about that now, it will all work out fine.
She was taken to the hospital and left me and the neighbor lady behind. I talked with her a bit on how to do things, and I told her I would go to the afternoon client first, see if he was ok with me starting there early, and then when done there I would come back and help her clean the place up a wee bit. Paramedics leave dirtiness all over where they work, including syringes, sticky stuff, even the heart chart I saw (which by the way shocked me, but I didn't tell the family that, the docs can do that much better).
Thank goodness the afternoon client was home and didn't mind one bit, and after I worked there I went on back and helped neighbor lady with the wrap ups, tidying out the bedroom, and a quick vacuum, toilet clean and mop of the downstairs area. I was home a good two hours before my time.
I had called the office from the afternoon client. I wanted to get things sorted out BEFORE calling them, because the last thing I wanted was work somewhere else right after this happened. Sorry, but I'd rather have the afternoon off than have that happen to me on a day like this one.
Last I heard it turns out she has had a minor stroke, her right arm she cannot use anymore, no news on the legs in any case. The blood was VERY thick (she is on blood thinners, but apparently something went awry somewhere), and that started it off.
Not a clue how long she must remain in hospital now, wait and see, but I hope it isn't going to take too long in any case. The sooner she is home, the sooner I can work there again! In the mean time I will get another address, so I will have to see which person that is going to be.
