That is the distance I have cycled on the new home trainer so far. Things noticed: 1) trainer delivery was 5 minutes off the dot, amazing 2) right pedal emits clicking sound when pedal is up, but not when putting weight only on left pedal or with knees wide 3) said clicks disappear after about 7 kilometers and start again the next morning 4) calories are related to distance only, and are not linked to resistance 5) serial number sticker is on bottom of trainer And that last thing is something you only notice once the bike is completely assembled and you need the silly number to file a report over at Weslo's *laughs* It is that I happened to notice it as I was crouched next to the trainer trying to find the sticker with said number on it. I removed it carefully and stuck it on the lower back side of the machine. I can find it now and read it if I need to. Yesterday started early. A last check on the post order company's site showed me that the delivery was going to be made between 15:30 and 18:45. Why 18:45 beats me, but that was when. Considering the fact that they MIGHT be early I had already set my alarm 30 minutes early and I started at the client at 08:30 instead of 09:00. Work involved an insane amount of laughter as I was telling about the vibrating thing under the pillow for the deaf folks, and it ensued in some not suitable for kids jokes which again ended up in hilarious scenes. We didn't get much work done that morning. But, that was ok. I have two more weeks there before the replacement help gets to fill in for two weeks. When I was done I went to the shop to get me a mat for under the trainer which I found in a jiffy. Then I immediately went home and didn't go grocery shopping, since it WAS possible that the delivery would be early. I kept one hearing aid in all the time and also took some time to change the doorbell text which states to push both bell buttons. I added that one should push properly. I have had it a few times that one of the bells wouldn't respond and I didn't want that to happen to the delivery folks of course. The window was open on a crack as well, and just after 15:30 I heard this truck drive up in my street, and yep, it was the post order company with my home trainer, 5 minutes after the initial planning time. A package supposed to be carried by two people was brought in by one strong fellow and when he left I called my dad that the trainer had been delivered and to ask when he would have time to help me out to assemble it. He told me he could come right over. We managed just fine, the only tricky part was where the computer lines were connected to the trainer. One for the resistance, one for the actual computer. One of us had to hold the steering wheel bar, the other had to connect the two parts without tangling them, and in the mean time putting stuff under tension. Four hands is not enough really, but we managed. The whole is actually not that heavy but it is easier to move now that it is assembled. In the evening when trying it out I found that the right pedal gives a click when it is up, not a clue where that comes from. When I pedal in different positions and different pressures the clicking disappears, also after about 7km or so. The only idea I have is that it has something to do with lubrication; the trainer has been sitting still for quite a while. I knew that when I saw that the thing came out of the box rather dusty. That would explain parts not wishing to cooperate fully. I have emailed Weslo about it and hopefully they know what to do. I have checked the FAQ on their site, but no luck there on my particular issue. At least it doesn't feel like it's major. One other interesting thing I noticed was that the calorie use is not calculated according to the resistance set, but according to the distance you have traveled. Time has nothing to do with it either, because whether you have cycled 10km fast or slow, the calorie amount remains the same. Ah well, I know the main deal: if you do not cycle you will not burn calories. *chuckles* The most important feature to me is the distance one. I try to do 10km every time I step on, taking a break after 5. So far it is going very well and I haven't had a muscle ache yet, so it's not an overload. I also notice that the heartbeat is staying steady, when I take about 37 minutes to do the 10km it isn't hard or really strenuous, though it does break up a little sweat around the 7km point. When I cycle faster and do the 10km in 30, then yes, heart rate goes up and so does the sweat factor. But I only do that after warming up a little biking slowly. It sure is a good exercise. Dad and I went back to the store this afternoon where I bought the DVD player that started doing wonky stuff with DVD-RWs and just having the bank slip indeed was enough, however it was just outside of warranty. I had a choice: I could pay 30 Euros in down payment, then it would be sent to the repair department, MAYBE it would still fall under warranty to repair the machine. If not, then I would get a quote from the mechanic. If I then chose to not have it repaired I could sign a paper wavering ownership I'd get my 30 Euros back. I wasn't looking forward to doing that. The regular DVD playing and DVD-R playing is going just fine, and I then rather have the machine go to someone who can make use of it still than have it be gone. Chances were high it wouldn't be repaired under warranty, and I knew the start fee of repair was 90 Euros. The thing only cost me 57, so.. not worth it. At least not having the proof of purchase, only having the bank slip, wasn't a problem since all she had to do was point the infrared to the box and the info of who purchased it popped up. Easily compare my bank account number to the number that the amount paid came out of. Nifty, that system. You HAVE to pay by pin in order to make use of that little feature though. We took the machine back to the car and then started shopping for a new one. This time I have stuck the receipt in the box, that situation is not going to happen to me again! |

I didn't do much today. I woke up early again, but contrary to yesterday, when I was still quite enthusiastic about the new trainer, I decided to roll over and sleep some more. This time it was 08:00 when I got up. The day was spent doing pretty much the usual Sunday stuff like running two loads of laundry. No I put the work shirt in separately now, in special white protector. It helps it a wee bit but it is still a little pinkish. Yes I am talking about the other shirt, and apparently some of the red was still in the washables that went along with the first shirt, so.. it's going in separately. A lot of my day was wasted by playing online games, it's a boring day, nothing to do, no new DVDs to watch, it's an easy refuge. Around 14:00 there was a movie that I saw and while I was watching I was cycling on and off. Same deal for some other TV programs. The grand total turned out nice though, almost 30km. That is to work and back for me. Tomorrow I am going by the vet again to try and see if they are open right after work, to get some of the soft food they have there, and in the afternoon the heater company maintenance guys will come over again. I am curious on whether this time they will actually press the bell properly, unlike last time where they just up and left. I hope they get here early so I have enough of my afternoon left to do me some good. |

In a controlled manner of course, or it wouldn't be good either. After work I went by the vet and bought a number of soft meat packages for her, same as the diet food. I will give her one quarter of a package in the morning, and another quarter in the evening. Dad also suggested something, putting her solid food in water for a bit, and let them soak to become softer and easier to eat. I didn't think it would work, the things didn't really become softer, however she ate them all when I wasn't looking, so obviously it does work. She will have her non-soaked hard food as well of course, but at least now I hope she will get some more in herself so she will gain a little weight again. As for me, I haven't got any scales so I cannot see what is happening with my weight, but I do think I can fit into my work pants a little easier. However that could be wishful thinking of course. I cycled another 21km today, but on resistance setting 5, heaviest so far. It is bringing my total up to just over 82km since June 1st. Tomorrow I might just pop over the 100, making it a nice average of 20km a day, which is twice as much as I originally intended to do. Thing is the 10km was easily crossed and didn't really take an effort, 20 is much harder to beat, and I want to make an effort here, not just cruise along. It feels good being active, all the while I am able to watch my favorite TV shows. Quite proud of myself to know that I went quite a ways. The heater guy called around 12:30 already, I had just gotten home, and he called me to just try and see if I was there. I am very glad he did, this meant him being in early and me having the whole afternoon off now and not waiting for him to get here. He cleaned out things, one big part is going to be replaced, but they would have to come back for that one, same procedure. Fine by me. He even showed me how to change one little dial around to the summer setting so when the temperature would happen to drop below 15C in the room, the heating cost wouldn't be so much. He also told me that the thing, though from 1994, is doing very well and looking good for its age. Perfect, I have had enough trouble with it when I moved in, having to shower at my dad two or three times still because my hot water decided to crap out on me. Tomorrow it is miss Difficult Client again. My team leader was back today and had read my report on how I had handled things, and complimented me on it. The first real compliment I got from this particular one. The former one already knew I was self sufficient enough to handle things coming my way, and there was never this "feeling out" of me involved. Those leaders should have a talk amongst themselves and gossip about me a little, it saves unclarity. *giggles* The afternoon hasn't been planned in yet, so if that stays that way I wouldn't be mournful really. My digital tv signal receiver just went pfrt on me, and I have had to reset it. Tomorrow I can turn it back on and slowly set things up again. I wonder how all that will go. It is not that I cannot watch any tv channels anymore, just that things are looking much better through the little thing. Ah well, I hope resetting it will help it out, if not then I will have to call in for maintenance on it. Bummer really, since I haven't even got the thing for a whole year yet, for as far as I remember. I was watching Gattaca this evening, but I started to doze off a little, slowly. Not that the movie wasn't interesting, but I really needed my rest. So.. off to bed I go! |

Quite literally, I may add. Work was easy, yet tough, considering the humidity level was so high. No fun at all and it makes me much more tired than I should be as work, as said, was easy. Good thing I had mailed in this morning to not plan me in this afternoon. I had too much to do to catch up with things. Right at the end of work they called, and told me my work shirts were ready for me, so, I picked those up right after buying some duct tape with which I hope to seal off a leak at Miss Difficult. It is just the pipe that connects to the faucet drain, nothing that has pressure on it, and if it can be fixed for a while that way, then that is great. When I picked up the shirt the other team leader called me in and asked how miss deaf client had been. I told him it had been just fine, and asked if there was a problem. No no, not at all, that was the thing, there WAS no problem and that stands out. Seems this client is usually VERY vocal when something happens that she doesn't like. Her regular helper is moving from home aide to personal aide, and she will be leaving her then. I asked the leader how long she had been working there and he said two years. Not that long, considering I had worked at the old town's clients for two years as well. But.. fun part is, they are finding her a new help, and by giving her lots of different people they serve two purposes. One that this lady will become (hopefully) a little more loose about things, and the other to find her someone who matches. I wouldn't mind being the match, but I told him to keep on trying other helpers as well. I did let on the impression that I wouldn't mind though, I am not crazy after all. But, no complaints about me at all.. *grin* We talked a bit on how she felt about things, and I explained a few things about her as well, and I think it helped him understand her better. Always a good thing. I left content, and with my two new work shirts. I washed the one I had on separately, and then did the two new ones together. I have purchased special whites detergent too and those shirts will never be washed again with anything not white along with them (which amounts to one sponge and one towel, to be frank, the rest of my stuff is colored). I noticed a difference between this old shirt and the new ones, but you have to take into account that the old shirt is three years old, so, ready for replacement. I wonder what tomorrow's clients will say when they see that sparkle white thing on my bod *laughs* Oh yeah, before I forget to mention it, I cycled past the 100km mark today, yay! I am so proud of myself for that! |

It's been another humid day, but not as bad for me as it was yesterday, which is a blessing. Tomorrow it will be worse again as storms are on their way, and I know that before that things are going to get ugly on the humidity level. I hope the afternoon stays open! Last night was horrible, sleep wise. It was too cold to sleep without the cover, but too hot to leave it on, which made me wake up more than once during the night, either shivering or sweating. Not good, and I hope it doesn't get me something that I don't need just little over a week before my holiday. Work was.. slow. Let me put it that way. Both the clients and I didn't really feel like putting a big effort in. The morning client limited us to some dusting, window washing and mopping upstairs, the afternoon one limited us to grocery shopping (a task of its own with this person) and vacuuming. Grocery shopping was fun, we were in the store for an hour for something, when I had done it myself, would have taken maybe 30 minutes tops, including waiting time at the register. But the goal is to get him to do things on his own, not to put everything on a silver platter. That is why we are called home health aides, not home health takeovers. After we were done we went to the bakery where he looked in a rather drooling puppy manner at some of the pastries and chose something with strawberries on it. The lady packed the pastries and then, mistaking a bucket for his bag ALMOST put the pastries in the water! Soggy strawberries was not my idea of a yummy treat after groceries *laughs* Next week though, I told him, we were going to give everything a good haul over as he is skipping help for those two weeks. We need a head start at his place. I injured myself at the morning client. I was washing those windows and she has horizontal blinds up there. They were pulled up and as I moved left to right with my hand, holding a sponge, my middle finger went left to right along one of those blade like things and made a nice deep cut. It is still a bit painful as I type this. It bled like a bleep, but at least it is closed now and healing. Thank goodness I got a tetanus shot 6 years ago, so I'm good where street dirt is concerned. It did cause some hilarious moments as I held the finger up with the band aid over it. *giggles* |

Honestly.. too hot to even ride the bike. I was glad to be alive even without riding it! Weather says "tropical temperatures in the east of the country". Give me a break already you stupid folks, I am in the west, south west to be exact. In the shade it was above 30C here. If that isn't tropical then I don't know what is. I miss the dry heat of Salt Lake City at times like these. I need a freaking scuba kit or I will grow gills to breathe here right now. Thunderstorms are predicted. Yeah, another ha ha ha. I just checked out the radar images. BELGIUM is getting all the fun, and we here just above them? No... they couldn't spare us some of it. The result? A night to remember, I will move my mattress next to the freezer and open the door. If I wasn't so stupid about energy consumption I'd do it too. And tomorrow during the day, I have to work a full day at the two easiest clients, do you think that I will be able to DO anything substantial? Asides from TRYING to get enough air in my lungs, that is. Today? New lady, Suriname. Talks funny on the phone with Suriname sister. Really nice woman though. Went great. Afternoon: buy hair clip, old one is breaking apart, buy bowl for cat. Small bowl, gets shoved around kitchen when being eaten from. Cool: she is getting exercise while eating, can't hurt. I am amazed I did my dishes at all, it being so hot, warm water is not appealing, but I did them. Yay me. Oh.. and I am downloading one episode of House. My niece missed an episode on the TV so she is getting it and then I am taking the disc back again to wipe for other stuff to be put on it, like backups. She asks me what I wanted for it. In a proper House fashion I told her: "Well.. a thank you would be nice." Good show too, about this Katrina victim. Yeah we're behind on the USA. Big deal, we got POTC before you did (one day early, what an intensely big deal). Computer question: when things are getting hot inside the machine due to outside heat, will it help to open the cd trays? *laughs* Right, like that would help. Well.. off I go to the swimming pool that is called bedroom and dive in. Ugh, this is going to be a night to remember.... |

That is what it sounded like this evening, right after I had gone downstairs finishing pulling the plugs out of the walls. I had done that because a nasty thunderstorm was heading my way, ensuring the safety of both the tv and the computer system. When in doubt, pull them out of the wall so when the lightning hits something bad it won't get into the systems. Not even a minute afterwards -flash boom- right over me. It sounded like this loud piece of fireworks had gone off right above the house. When the weather had lived itself out and it was dry again I went outside to check the roof, things look ok. There are no leaks either that I can see, and the old ones that I had are still ok. It gave me quite a scare. I was talking with my niece after this all had happened and explained to her the various kinds of thunder and to please be careful. She got two runs of the storm where she was at. I was home early, the first client told me to dust, vacuum, do the toilet and shoo. It was too humid to do anything substantial really. My pant legs were sticking and being irritating, limiting my movement. It was horrid to work in that. I called the second client to ask if it was ok to start there early, and she said yes, so, after being done at number 1 around 11:15, I took a few large gulps of a yogurt drink that I had with me to drink for lunch and went on my way to number two, who also after an hour or two let me go. Net result: I was home at 14:30 instead of 16:30. I was glad to be home too, it was way -way- too humid. The storm started around 17:00, I had eaten dinner early (also because I had had no lunch) and dad came over to drop off three DVDs. One had this show on it that he had recorded from a Belgian TV station. Originating from the BBC, Louis Theroux: The Most Hated Family in America. It baffles the mind, to see how indoctrinated these people are. All the time I was watching this one thought went through my head: "God is Love", and I am not even a Christian! Some call it God, others call it Allah, I guess I can call it any name, including God. My personal preference is calling it Spirit, and that is within you and around you. But I am not going to dwell on that one tonight. It is 00:33 at this point in time and I am tired. However, what these people in that video preach is not what I believe, totally not. It is amazing to see these children say the word "fag" and obviously they have no idea what a fag is. They simply echo what their parents drilled into them. One thing I regretted about this video is that the people who stepped out weren't looked up and talked to. I wouldn't have minded to hear their side of the story. Or maybe they were but didn't want to cooperate, I might have missed that part. There is a lot on the tv here recently about sects and cults, very interesting viewing material. Well.. coherent thinking just went out the window so it is time to hit the sack. One good thing the storm did was lower the temperature. Compared to last night the bedroom is MUCH cooler. Thank goodness for that! |

Today was a day filled with things going differently than expected. I went to the hardware store first, to get two new parts to hold up the rain pipe. When I checked the weather radar and saw what was coming I quickly went outside and attached the two, so now the bottom part of the pipe will hopefully not fall off again. It started raining a bit on the second one, so I had to hurry, expecting a heavy rain storm again. But.. it never came. Hours later I checked the radar again, and everything had dissolved before it got to where I live. I had been mounting this thing in the rain for naught! Grrr. Hehe, at least it is done now and tight solid. I also went to the grocery store. I wanted some more salad to eat, and get a few other things that I needed. It was busy, being a Saturday, it is always busy then, but I got lucky as there wasn't much traffic inside the store. The parking lot made me believe differently. I went straight to the lettuce and then saw, on top of the package that I wanted to grab, a little note that came out of the machine that gives you an amount for empty bottles returned. It was an amount well over 10 Euros! This sure was my lucky day, and when I went to pay for my groceries I got money back instead of having to pay. Of course I didn't ask if anyone had lost it, I mean, do that and everyone goes "Oh, that is mine." Pay attention to your things, especially a slip with that amount on there. Ah well, it was very welcome indeed. *smiles* This afternoon I spent some time cleaning my keyboard. I can clean the tops of the keys no problem, but in between them is a bit harder. I found that I could grab some pliers and flatten a Qtip, using that after spraying Windex on it. All nice and dandy clean again. I cannot clean under the keys, I don't dare to take the lid off. Besides, there are no sticking keys, so there is no need for it either. Today I found out that I could convert an avi to an mpeg to be able to burn an SVCD. Mighty nifty all that konsole command stuff. At times I wanted to do something and I wasn't allowed. Command not known, that sort of thing. All I had to do was fire up Synaptic and I found the missing software in a heart beat. Installed it and on I went again. Same with the VCD burning. K3B complained about not having a package, so.. I installed that as well. I did have to restart K3B, but after that it worked like a charm. The new DVD player also recognized it as an SVCD. Of course with all the encoding quality gets lost, and I burned a copy of the avi file as well, as data, and it took a bit, but the DVD player took that file and played it. Much clearer now, so I will simply watch it off the original avi. But, it is possible and that is what I wanted to know. Something completely different: as you may or may not know, I have been quite worried about my cat losing weight. Otherwise she was healthy, just that I had the feeling that she was getting lighter, too light. The vet appointment only confirmed my thoughts, 3.3kg is too low for a usually 4kg kitty. So, I bought the soft food at the vet and I am pleased to report that the cat is doing much better already. When I pick her up she is heavier, and also when petting her she feels like there is a bit more meat on those little bones of hers. Sixteen years old this month, and going strong again. One thing I did find out: she is getting deaf! I did a few tests this evening and indeed, when I call her she doesn't look up anymore, when I do it again a little louder she responds like she would as if I did it for the first time. That would explain her loud mewing that she is doing lately. It also explains why I can sneak up on her where in the past she would know when I got home. Ah well, at least her sight is just peachy, that is the most important part. It is not like she is going to get attacked by other cats, being an indoor cat and all. The worst risk she runs is me tripping over her, because -I- can't hear her coming either *laughs*

Again no training today, but I did do some cross stitching, as that one has been on complete hold since I started on the bike. I need to find a balance here, but once my holiday starts it will be much easier. One more week and then two weeks off, yay! This morning I went to work with a plan in my head of what the client and I were going to do. It is so much easier to go there and HAVE a plan, rather than having to cook one up when I am there. However, the floor, which was involved in the plan, was replaced by the ceiling. What had happened: client had put a bun in the microwave, said bun was supposed to be in there for 2 minutes, but.. due to some mistyping on the console was supposed to stay in there for much longer (closer to 20). However, client had gone upstairs and didn't get down until far past the 2 minute period. Consequence: one bun that would have made a nice study object for Bones, one tray that had shrunk to half its size in diameter, a lid that had a sort of mini Frankensteinish spot on it, and a SMELL in the microwave that honest to goodness almost made me puke. The only thing that I could think of to get rid of some of the smell was to grab a cup of water, put lemon juice in it and let it boil for a bit, and then clean out the inside of the machine again. One treatment wasn't enough however, and we repeated it twice. One run was done with coffee as per client's idea, but that one led to some hilarious moments as the coffee had spilled over onto the dish that the cup was standing on *laughs* This lady sure knows how to make messes. It didn't much help the stench and I didn't know what else there could be done to help that aside from that lemon trick. I actually looked it up when I got home, and I couldn't find any other tip that would help. I grabbed a cloth and cleaning stuff and started to mop the ceiling, which helped a lot in getting the smell of Project Bones out of the kitchen. Yech, you don't know what burn smells like until you have done this, it was that awful. A lot of gunk that had stuck itself on there came off, and I am glad that at least it helped a bit. It was something the client would never have managed on her own. The one other thing that was the problem was her phone. The batteries had gone dead and she didn't know how to replace them. I knew how to replace them, but I didn't know how to get the darned lid off. They said in the manual where the lid was, and to open it you had to push some button. Well, I pushed till I was about to give birth, but that thing would not budge. I finally found out there was this little trick that worked: it was not push, it was slide aside. It's a form of pushing, but it is not the pushing you think of when one tells you to push on something. Client happy, she had a working phone again. Of course the whole thing had to be reprogrammed, but that was no big deal for me: I have done that two times before. She was so happy. She told me she had told her daughter and her other helper (the other one does groceries) that I was such a technical person and that if there was something they didn't know to just ask me because I most likely knew. Hehe, she made me blush, the silly woman. That was the first one I had to tell goodbye to, and "See you in July". When I got home I was immediately stopped by my neighbor. He had contacted me yesterday already about printing a file, and had given me this floppy. I couldn't print the file as the floppy held a shortcut rather than the file in question. A shortcut TO a file isn't going to help me folks. It was difficult to explain to them, but I think it did get through because today he asked me again. Another floppy, another try. I decided to boot straight to Windows this time and found no shortcut this time but Windows Explorer would hang on the silly disk (as bad as "program not responding"). I could not get Word to open it either. Even copying to my desktop didn't work and gave an error message. I was starting to doubt my no frills Windows install already until I took out the disk and saw the problem: the disk was faulty. No wonder. I went back and told them this, and then a little while later he came back again. He suggested to borrow my printer. Uhh.. no, my printer is not leaving my home, nor is any other stuff leaving my home without my personal supervision. I made up an excuse about my printer not working on another system but mine (he bought it too), and told him to burn it on a cd, can't much go wrong with that, and gave him one of my CD-Rs. Brand new, never used, so that HAD to work. And it did, FINALLY. I was glad that was finally over! Tomorrow is Ms. Difficult again, and I can go and fix her piping leak problem with the duct tape I bought. I hope anyway. In the afternoon I have a new couple, which I will also have to go to on Friday afternoon, so I hope things work out ok, since I cannot say: "Oh well, only three hours, breathe and move on." I have to go back there! Eek. Couples are harder too than single clients, since their attention isn't solely on you. It makes it harder to connect with the people since you are not the "savior" so to speak. I am glad they still have each other, don't get me wrong, just that I know out of experience that no matter how nice they are, it is not the same. Well.. ok.. unless one of the two is completely deaf, that is the exception, yes. |

I found that out today, on client number two. The morning one went just peachy, and I wished her good luck with the replacement. I told her that the best thing she could do, whatever would happen, to just breathe, and let her go about her business. Also to state one thing: do not help me unless I ask. With that she will have a good start. I had lunch and then went on to number two and boy did I mistake the impression I got when I was at the door. The man opened the door and immediately walked off. Didn't greet me or anything worth noting. I went inside and greeted the lady of the house and then went up to him and shook his hand introducing myself. I figured: if he cannot be civil then I sure can be. He pointed at the vacuum cleaner and I could start right off vacuuming the ground floor. All the while that I was doing that I thought to myself: great, just great, I have to work here on Friday as well. Groan. I figured: well, if I have to work I am going to beast myself off doing it, and set up a higher pace. I have long since learned that when you are working at a place that you don't like the people you better bust your ass and work like mad. That way time for one moves faster, and for two: they cannot complain about the amount of work you have put away. I hung a huge amount of laundry after that and went upstairs to that by using the chair lift. I tried going up there by foot, but she told me to not be silly and use the little lift! So, up I went. I felt like I was in a theme park, the Efteling. As I was hanging the laundry I was contemplating of telling the team leader how I had been welcomed at the door and how I felt like I was in fact being treated like a sort of Cinderella there. A maid to clean and that's it. When I was done with the first load, I went and gave the toilet a really good haul over (it was in need of it too), and then went upstairs to clean the shower a bit. I wasn't giving that a haul over though, didn't feel like it, so after I was done I went back down and it was time for a drink. We all sat at the table and talked a bit, first about washing one's self and if they needed help with it, then the topic moved on to be about kids. Boy did I open up a rat hole with that one. They started telling about their daughter and all they went through with her and I let them talk and talk. The man suddenly started crying as he was telling his story of being abused by her. It was awful to hear, and amazing at the same time. I would never even THINK of doing that to my dad.. After the break I went and hung the second load, and cleaned the outside windows front and back at a ridiculous pace. When it was time to go I was in a serious sweat and as I was driving off I just knew that they were talking between them two telling about "How this girl can work up a storm alright." This girl only does that to get rid of other things folks. But I learned something today. They confided in me, telling me things like that, they included me in their private life with their story alright. They don't even know me, all they have seen is 10 minutes of me. And now all this break time they were telling their story and being perfectly normal with me and I realized that the lack of greeting at opening the door was just their way of dealing with someone they didn't know and tried to stay distant from, which is exactly the impression I got from them. As soon as they got to know me a little better they opened right up, and even laughed at some of the things I said, and she even made a joke at the end, completely catching me by surprise. My first impression was dead wrong, and I must say: I don't mind going back there at all. Sometimes a first impression needs a second take, but you DO have to give it that! |

Today wasn't that big of a deal. I had two regulars, so I knew what was heading toward me. We worked quite a bit on the house in the morning. Washing curtains and changing out paintings. Heh, the lady was tired of a certain painting hanging on the wall and she had me swap it out with another one, and then two others had to be swapped around as well. Quite fun. She always asks me to do these things starting with a comment that makes me think that I did something wrong and in this tone of "We need to talk about it". I always worry for nothing for those brief two seconds that things aren't explained. Silly me, I could break quite a cup there before she would truly get mad at me, so.. I worry for naught all the time. Right after that I went to the office. I had to deliver a quick note at the salary admin about extra pay for the former period. Since it was such a short period, hours wise, I had a shortage of 150 net in the four weeks. I quickly wrote up a letter last night and signed it, then my team leader would have to sign it and the salary admin could pay it out. Nothing big. My team leader wasn't there, but the former one I had took my letter and she assured me it would get signed and delivered today. Then I deposited my old work shirt, the one without the accident, and also handed her my materials slip that was still in my bag. Glad to be rid of all that stuff, all that remains is my client overview on Friday and that's that. I did find a note on the desk for me from the team leader, telling me the meeting had been rescheduled to, guess when: a Tuesday. The first Tuesday after I return to work, at Ms Difficult client, the one where I oops forgot I had to start at 8. I have written it on my note board this time so I cannot forget or I must be really stupid and miss the daily view of it in my kitchen. I wrote my team leader about it though, told her that Ms would be pissed, would not like it at all, and that I couldn't call her either to inform her of this change since she doesn't talk too loudly. One mishap in the phone line and the talk goes sour. My team leader suggested she would write a letter to her telling her of this fact, that I would start at 8 this next time, and hopefully she would be so glad about my return that she wouldn't mind it too much. Well.. there are two possibilities. One is that she gets angry at me for not handing over the work info, the other is indeed that she will be very happy. I am prepared for the worst though. We'll see. At least, as said: it is on my calendar now so I cannot forget unless I am being really stupid. The afternoon client went nice and easy again, not a problem in the world. He has been keeping his promise very nicely and hasn't ever even hinted to the talk we had or anything related to it again. He's great, and I am glad I didn't have to report it in. Well, two more days of work, and that's it. Fun thing is I have been wearing my hair differently for the first time in a year this past week, and no-one even mentioned it. All I did was, instead of a standard at the neck braid or a twist and clip up (the summer setting), I put it in a long pony tail. I like fiddling with my hair again and I have been pondering to learn to apply new styles to my hair. Tomorrow it is high ponytail again, but with a braid in it. I checked in the mirror and it looked cute, and if THAT doesn't get noticed, I wonder what will. Ok, dyeing it green would *laughs* I have checked online and found a site where various things are explained that I am thinking of trying some time. Fun part is their main image used to be an avatar of mine. I have been trying to find more with pictures and instructions, but no luck. This is the best one. The rope braid looks fun and easy enough to accomplish. Simple and yet again different than the norm. Quite fun to check into these things, now that I am letting my hair grow again *smiles* |

Lots of them unique hits to boot, more than I thought. Anyway, I find it fun, 6 months on this new blog site, and that many hits, amazing. I never got that many on Diary-X, that is for sure. I made a stupidly low amount of km today, because I realized a little late, while watching House, to boot, that I hadn't filled out my client statements yet. Of course the error was corrected within 45 minutes, but by that time it was almost 23:00 and at that time I am not going to ride anymore, so.. 7.03 will have to do. It is better than nothing in any case. Morning was a regular client again, no trouble at all. The afternoon was a new one again, though I did know this lady already since she was always there when I picked up the morning one. I figured she'd be a difficult one, but she turned out to be really nice. Fun part (for me, not her) was that she had to go to the doctor's between 15:00 and 15:30, so, at 15:00 I got a kick in the tush and was able to go home. Yay! I decided to use this little time off to go to the market, it was Thursday after all, and I was able to buy me fabric for 2 euros per meter. Nice price, and I bought two meters of it to make a skirt out of. I also wanted to have something to put in the hair on the braid part, where it is attached to the head. Thing is that because of the weight of the braid (silly thing seems to weigh more when it is braided than just a tail, beats me) is pulling the band down a bit, making things look a bit less nice. I need something to cover that part up but I didn't find what I was looking for though. ![]() I did find something else, a LinziClip Midi, which is a rather ingenious little hair clip. They claim it won't slide out, but with my thin hair it probably still would. ![]() It is not a problem though as I will use it pretty much for decoration only over the band. I have tried to find one of those leather barrettes here in The Netherlands, but the fact that I am oblivious of their Dutch term it is rather hard to Google for it. Ebay has a number of things, but one important bit I have to keep in mind: not larger than 3 inches wide, since more than that will likely make the hair room part too big, and as I have very thin hair (though lots of it) I don't make one of those big ponytails that many people do possess. On to tomorrow. The morning client will be ok, I just know it, and the afternoon people are those of Tuesday afternoon. After that I will wash the car and head on home, finally able to enjoy TWO weeks off. I haven't had that much time off since I injured my ankle two years ago the week before Christmas. I will most likely be bored stiff by the end of week one though.. Need to cook up something to do then! |

Finally. I thought the afternoon would never end and I was truly counting the hours on Friday. They called me down for a drink at about 14:30 but I didn't hear a call at all, so I ended up working till about 15:10 and then went downstairs. All the laundry done and cleared away. I slacked the remainder of the time and left just a bit before 16:00 and went straight to the car wash. Tiniest car wash I have ever been to, but it was around the corner, so.. I do prefer the bigger one, I know that now! In any case I got all the accumulated gunk off my car and then went to the Aldi for groceries. The heavy stuff is what I wanted from them: coke and milk. I don't like the milk at the store near me, and their coke has this weird after taste that I don't care for, so.. hence. Aldi also has these buns that you have to put in the oven for a wee bit still, quite yummy. I needed to have a two week stock, so I purchased plenty of everything. After that I went straight on and emptied the vet's stock of soft food. I told the assistant that that was the last of the lot, and that new stuff should be ordered should other folks come in and want it. And of course in about a week or so I will come buy the stuff again as well. Dixie is doing very well. Still losing lots of hair, but I think that is still the season though, and the good part is that she is cleaning herself again. Healthy cats will groom, cats that feel yucky won't do that. I went on to the pet store and purchased a scratching pole. I wonder if she will ever learn to use it, but at least the opportunity is there now should she wish to. The pole is large enough for her. I know back when my ex and I had Tummy we made him a custom pole. The longest one was too small for him, he was huge compared to Dixie. I don't know if Felix the cat sounds familiar? He looked like that, just.. HUGE. I was glad to be home at last. I dropped the groceries in the hallway and first set off to make myself something to drink and flopped down on the couch. Two weeks off, starting today. Ahhh. I don't start again until it's July, I sure hope time doesn't move too fast. I spent the evening watching TV and surfing on the computer trying to find barrettes with a pin, and I sent out two questions to sellers, so far no answer though. I also went to find self braiding guides and found a really good one at last, one that is a little less neat than another that I have seen, but which works much easier when you are French braiding yourself or someone else. I applied it on myself while watching the video and on the second try something came out of it that can be called a French braid alright. ![]() Tomorrow when dad and I are going to visit the relatives in the south of the country again I will do my hair up like that. I will dampen the hair a bit though, to make it more manageable. Strings stay together much better. This is so cool that I can do this. I have always wanted a French braid and it looked so hard. It isn't hard at all, takes only 2 minutes or so. Quite fun, I made a small mistake braiding, I see, it makes it look like I have a bald spot. Trust me, I am not going bald *laughs* It is just the lighting, flash, and hair pulled aside at the wrong spot. The interesting thing is now everyone who reads this blog entry will know my hair length and color *grin* Mind, if you look carefully, you can see Dixie too. |

I have been cruising around online to find me various things and boy did I succeed. Yesterday I went to the family day outing thing, and I put my hair up like I said. A French braid starting at just below the crown. I wanted it higher, but considering it was in nicely I decided to not touch it; you always regret it when you want it perfect since you cannot get it as nice as the one time it ALMOST worked. However today I managed a pretty decent one indeed that despite the bangs started on the top of my head, about a hand width away from the bangs. Yay! Practice DOES make perfect, no?![]() Last night was spent trying to untangle the mess that is called Liquid Weather, and with the help of someone on the mepislovers forums who was so kind to give me her config file, I was able to connect to a different weather service and get the local weather back on my desktop. Only downside is the hourly forecast that isn't in that one and is the one from weather.com. I used that to determine whether or not to close my bedroom windows at night and to make a plan for the day. Always handy to know what outside is planning to do before I venture into it. I have emailed weather.com and asked them what is going on and why I can only access their site by using a proxy. I think this has to do with the half-outage I had earlier this week, and my ISP could have hammered the site continuously for hours for some reason, ensuring me to get an IP block to weather.com's site and services. Hopefully they will respond to my email and tell me what is going on. I spent some time cruising the net trying to find a forum where I could share and read about hair styles, and then not so much how you could cut your hair, but how to up do it. I found one, The Long Hair Community, where I got a lot of tips from as well, like getting a wooden brush, better for your hair than the plastic ones. Going to get one tomorrow if I can find it in the store, I needed a new one anyway. I also measured my hair according to their instructions for in my profile there and I am amazed, it is a whole 21.5 inches long, or 54.5cm for those working the metric system. Whoa! *big grin* Mighty nice people in there by the way, and of course I run across a topic where a hair goody is mentioned, a Flexy-8 and I have mailed the owners of the site to ask about the cost and sizing of two of the things, a small and an extra small. ![]() I just love them things with the dangles. They have them without as well, and in silver color too, but these things really are only going to be for the interesting updo's so to speak. Hopefully I will soon receive an answer. They have this thing going "buy 4 get 1 free' so I might use that one if it is valid. They accept PayPal at least, so that is good news for me! I haven't done much otherwise, during the day, though I did dive in the front yard and pulled out quite some weeds that were growing in the grassy area. I couldn't mow it though as the grass was wet, dernit, so hopefully soon it will dry up a good deal so I can actually mow it again. |

Oh my it got to be late last night, and I woke up early to boot. But, I did go back to bed and grabbed another 2-3 hours or so, so it wasn't too bad after all. That is what you get when you discover a new forum, and even worse when you find TWO of them. Ah well, it is worth it and considering it is holiday time, who cares! What did I do today, let's see. I slept in, needless to say, and then went to the shops to get me a wooden comb and do a wee bit of groceries. Well, kiss the comb bye bye as they didn't have it, so tomorrow my dad and I are going to the city and buy one for me there. I settled for a few soft bands and four little clips. When I got back I went outside and mowed the front yard so at least that looks a bit decent again. I can do the weeding another time, didn't feel like it anymore when I was done with the mowing part. The neighbor heard me mow, and immediately came outside to show me the cute kitty that has grown quite a bit. I do hope they will give it a flea treatment though! I don't have to fear for my own, she gets a flea shot every year, a bit more expensive but SO much easier to deal with. I watched some TV, did some cycling despite my for some strange reason extremely aching limbs since a day or two, and then went back to read some more forum stuff in between. And there I got hooked on something fun, and very easy for someone with not quite such long hair. Make two braids on the back of the head. Flip the ugliest one diagonally across your head and tuck the sticking out part under. Stick a hairpin through it, then do the same with the other tail, and cross the other way over the first braid, tuck under, hairpin that one and done. Of course I got hooked on the pins. I FINALLY found a use for them, and I got me two from Ebay. The price was a steal, $0.01 (yes really) and $4.99 shipping. They give you tracking for this amount too, crazy! Wait and see how long it will take for the two to get here. They had other colors too, but I like red, and they had a dark red version. ![]() I just couldn't resist. I wonder how dark red the things will turn out in real life, but I love red. They had black ones too, but these looked just a little bit more chic. Well, best wrap this one up, gotta get out early to pick up my dad and I want to wash my hair first, it's icky, nice sweaty weather here again. |

There is not much really to tell. I have been fiddling with my hair a lot these days, almost an obsession but it will wear off again *wink* For the most part it is finding hair styles that are fun. The biggest thing that happened is my digital camera died. It truly is dead now as the screen shows nothing but a bit of bright on the right hand side which moves when I move the camera. I guess that is the end of it, it has lasted me well. My dad was so kind to lend me his in the mean time. I have been on the lookout for a new -affordable- camera now, considering I don't have the money available that I used to have back when I bought the A70. It will be a Canon again, since I have such wonderful experiences with it. Some things have changed though and I need to test the cameras myself to see if they can do macro without a stand. We'll see how it turns out. Prices differ quite a bit as well so I will have to wait and see where I am going to buy the new camera. Dad will accompany me to the city to do so. Just today we went to another one because he wanted the same DVD player I had. When he heard me say "I can play .avi files" he was sold on mine. His old one he will donate to my brother who just got his bachelor's degree. Good going for him! ![]() I took quite a few pictures of my silly hair. One thing I have noticed is that it is quite the red fest these past two days, a good indicator that I am feeling alright and the bod is ok too. I took a picture of my hair while it was loose for the record of the length. In a few days I will get another trim, of course again mentioning that I am growing it out. She has plenty of other clients so I cannot expect her to remember my particular wish. I have tried various styles with my hair, intending to learn quite a few while my holiday lasts. A braided bun worked out very nicely indeed. I tried to work with some food chop sticks that I had laying around here, but that didn't work, way too big. However, where there is a will there is a way, so.. I grabbed a saw, some sandpaper and I chopped half off the chopstick, leaving a 7" length, the same as the sticks I am going to get. Perfect for trying out stuff! ![]() Today I tried a Chinese bun, secured with what they call a scrunchy. This is not really a scrunchy that I bought today, but it does rather nicely for what I want it to do. There in the loose hair a bit of red was visible, just above the stick on the right hand side in the bun there was a red streak. My hair is getting funny with the red. ![]() Today I saw on one of the forums that someone had purchased a hair fork. And MAN did that look nifty for a hair ornament, and considering I had just enough money left over in my PayPal account, I decided what the heck, let's get me one as well, but I chose a different color. I love the redder ornaments, shows in the hair sticks too, so I got me a bloodwood version, after comparing it with all the other wood kinds this one just won plain out. ![]() I have also been doing a little experimenting. With the help of the Dutch forum I have found a silicone free shampoo and conditioner, which are supposed to be much better for your hair. I must say, they are right. My hair is now almost dry again, but it feels very soft and silky. When it was just done I used my fingers to comb it, saves breakage, and then let it air dry. And there is the red streak again in the hair that showed up in the bun earlier today. ![]() And then I let it air dry and a little miracle happened, I cannot believe my eyes. ![]() I think I am leaving the entry like this.. I have to digest the difference first.. |

The old has died on me, and today my dad and I went to the city to a large store and had a new one demonstrated. I had looked on Steve's Digicams and saw that two models that were for sale at the store came out being two of many Best Cameras. Those being the A460 and the A550, which cost respectively 139 and 189 Euros here. The 460 has something the 550 doesn't have: super macro. It can get up to 1cm of the object and make a sharp picture. Very nice indeed. So.. off we went and to avoid a traffic jam we went on another route, which of course resulted in a different kind of traffic jam. It is a good thing we went with my dad's car since my car does NOT like to stand still. We made it to the store just fine and after a wait the person who I spoke with on the phone and also had an email exchange with was free to help me. First he took the two cameras and showed me the macro functions. The big difference with the A70: auto focus. On the macro setting of the A70 you had to tell the camera which distance the object was and then make sure to hold the camera at that distance, which resulted in many pictures that needed to be taken to get the right effect on one of them. Not with these cameras. You can set it to macro setting, and then plain half press. They will both focus themselves correctly. Both cameras did this just fine. I saw a printout of both pictures, and both were fine. The 460 blackens things a bit (at least.. it was black text). Then I told him I also wanted a normal standard picture taken. At this point I was leaning toward the 460 alright. I mean, it saves me 50 Euros, that is a lot of money. Both cameras shot the same picture, and both pictures were put on the LCD screen. I could see a small difference in the grain amount, the 550 did better on that, but it was not enough to really make a decision. The 460 was still in the lead because of that macro function that the 550 didn't have. However I asked if those two could also be printed on photo paper, and when they came back I instantly saw the scale tip over to the 550 over the 460. There was a white stand in the picture. In front of the white stand was a green pole. In the 550 picture it showed as such, in the 460 there was this yellow "double" next to it. This thin vague yellow line right against the green pole. I noticed it right away. We went back to the computer images and indeed, it was in the picture, it was not the printer gone wonky. I knew it was going to irritate me to always have this yellow line next to things. I mean, every time I take a picture of something against an even background it will show. No, the choice was instantly made: the 550. It is a nice camera, a lot lighter than the 70, but that is because the casing is lighter, for one, and for two there are only two batteries in it instead of four. After the purchase (I also got a 1Gb SD card, that is plenty considering I worked with a 128Mb CF on the old camera) we went to my gramps, and they loved seeing us so unexpectedly. It was fun to see them as well. Grandpa now has a hearing aid in, so he can hear properly again, or at least, well enough to follow a conversation. Very nice indeed. When home I immediately transferred some money from savings back to my checking account to cover for the 200+ Euro loss that it suffered and I went on Ebay to buy me the same card reader that my dad has, since I know that thing works on my computer system without any problems. I have been reading the 550 manual off the CD and have been trying out a few things. There are a few more features on this camera than on the 70, so I will have to figure some things out before I can properly use it. But yeah, I know I will be satisfied with this camera, I know the yellow "duplicate" or "shadow", what have you, would have irritated me quite quickly, so it's a good thing that I bought this one. I will write to Canon Netherlands about his super macro feature that was removed as of the 500series, and that my advice is to add it back in, and about the 460 having that quirk. Whether something will be done with it is unknown, but at least I will have told. |

When I woke up Tuesday morning after giving it a deep conditioner treatment Monday evening I had a bit of a scare. My hair felt great, even to the tips now, but that wasn't the problem. It was doing things it usually didn't do. It seemed like it was static, but it wasn't static, it just behaved a bit like it. I got worried about it and posted on the forum. The reply was something I have to chuckle about now: "Girl, that is what we commonly refer to as 'volume'". It was the most normal thing, and it was just something I wasn't used to due to washing with the silicones; everything then obeys the order of the hair master, and lays sleek. No more *grin* If I compare what it looks like now to a few days ago, a world of difference. ![]() I had a fun thing happen, when I looked on the mat there was an envelope. My Flexi-8s had arrived, yay! I wore one today when I was taking the car to the garage. On the 15th of next month there is going to be a meeting of the Dutch hair forum ladies, and I am thinking of going. Sounds like a fun day, but we'll see. I am not entirely certain yet. Tomorrow the car can be picked up again. I do hope they call in early so I can get another treatment done before going hairdresser that evening to get a trim. Wait and see if she is going to say anything at all about it. It sure is a weird sensation, to not have my car parked out front. It's staying overnight at the dealership and tomorrow they will work on replacing the oil pan gasket. Hopefully that will be the end of the leak, and the end of my being nervous about it. It is not something that will just go away on its own. |

Meet the rope braids. I have found a new do for the coming week at work. If they now don't notice the hair, I don't know what will make it stand out *giggles* I will do the braid that is in the middle of the head, so the hair is out of my neck when it gets a bit sweaty. ![]() The two buns on the head is something to put in the scrapbook; it will not happen again until my hair is much longer and the buns have a size worth mentioning to them. Currently they are so small that the elastic band used to tie it so it stays up is getting tangled in the hair. When the bun is larger I can use a larger tie which is easier to take out as well. I lost a few hairs taking these out, ouch, and it hurt even though I was careful. So.. cute.. but has to wait. On the 15th I am going to a meeting with some members of the Dutch/Belgian long hair group. I am still debating taking the car or going by train, and I am leaning heavily toward the latter since we'll meet at a train station anyway. Wait and see till more details are known. I got a letter from the employer yesterday, concerning the new health care system. All the providers are in a big frenzy since apparently no-one saw it coming that the municipalities would try and classify all the clients as class 1. Me being a class 2 and getting sent to a class 1 client means the provider doesn't get as much money from the municipality had client been a 2, so.. they run at a loss. Nice big messy situation. However, I find it so stupid of them. They said in the letter "we didn't see it coming that they would massively go for class 1". No really, it is only logical that the municipality is going to take the cheapskate route, I KNEW this when it started. In any case, the providers are going to have a good talk with municipalities nation wide and hopefully something comes out of it. If not, it is cut back time. No need to say how I feel about my contract now hmm? Permanent contract, but I don't know how permanent that is going to be after all this. I had my team leader call Ms. Difficult of Tuesday morning to make sure she knows that I start at 8:00 instead of 9:00 since we have a meeting at 11. She did and the lady knows, so at least I feel a little less insecure about it now. I wonder what stories she is going to tell me about the replacement, probably VERY unhappy about her. Wait and see what will happen, but I am a bit nervous alright. |
