engine-101 General Motors Plans New Indian Engine Plant - Subscribe
GM plans to build a new engine plant in India. The news was seen on the net when I was looking for Dodge Durango parts. "We are going to set up a power train facility in India and are evaluating locations," said Karl Slym, the head of GM India.

The engine will be placed on GM models made in India. GM also sells many badges in India and building a plant in India would cut the cost of GM in terms of shipping engines for the Indian car market. This is according to the Chennai-based analyst on the condition of anonymity. They are going to allot a huge budget on the new plant made for these GM car engines. GM has also built plants in India particularly in Halol, Gujarat, where its Tavera, Optra, Aveo and Spark cars are assembled.

engine-101 Clean Engine Nov 6th, 2007 5:58:01 am - Subscribe

When somebody tells you that you need to have your engine cleaned, I'm sure you think about going to a mechanic and having your engine opened and cleaned. But on this post, we are not gonna touch on that but instead focus on the outside of an engine.

Just like the exterior of your car which looks good when clean, your engine's exterior should also be clean. This is one mark of being a responsible car owner. Good thing Wikihow has these recommended steps on cleaning your car's engine:

  1. Remove the negative terminal cable on the battery then the positive.
  2. Cover any exposed electrical components with a plastic bag. This will prevent the electrical components of the car from being exposed to water which will be needed.
  3. Get a garden hose. Thoroughly rinse the engine.
  4. Consult the vehicle's service manual and look up material that will be needed to clean the engine block and other metal parts. Some WD-40 would be nice, but be cautious, because it is highly flammable; but engine de-greaser, available at auto supply stores would be better. Be sure to follow the instructions on the container.
  5. Remove plastic after rinsing engine and cleaning away residue of the WD-40 or whatever chemical that you used to clean the metal components
  6. Allow engine to run for an hour or two or until the engine has completely dried.

By cleaning your car's engine on the outside, you would not only feel good about yourself but you are also protecting your car. Although the inside of an engine is where the most important processes happens, you should also remember that the exterior of the engine is still related to the operation of the powerplant.

engine-101 Mercedes Benz' E 300 BLUTEC & E350 CGI Nov 9th, 2007 1:43:54 am - Subscribe

Car manufacturers did nothing but to bring out innovative technologies dedicated in producing exceptional, practical and clean vehicles without compromising their fun-to-drive characteristic. Today, Mercedes has come up with their version of a clean and practical vehicle - and it takes two! The E 300 BLUETEC and the E 350 CGI.

The E 300 BLUETEC is said to have the cleanest and most fuel-efficient executive-class diesel engine. The E 320 BLUETEC, which is promoting very rapidly and it has been selected "World Green Car of the Year 2007" next to the booming launch of the world’s pioneering BLUETEC passenger car in the United States. In Europe, Mercedes-Benz is now presenting BLUETEC technology for the world's cleanest diesel as well. The new E 300 BLUETEC is offered as the cleanest and most practical diesel in the executive class with instant effect.

The E 350 CGI features an unconventional direct-injection petrol engine along with a spray-guided combustion procedure. The E 350 CGI is an industry-first and the world's first V6 petrol engine with this ground-breaking combustion system and piezo-electric injection. It was unveiled in the CLS 350 CGI during springtime last year. Today, it is available for the Saloon and Estate in the high-volume E-Class as well.

The E 350 CGI remained in the series, and if we are to compare it to the E 350, the 215 kW/292 hp V-engine generates 20 hp more production and 15 newton metres more torque (365 Nm) while guzzling ten percent less fuel.

engine-101 The 2007 Top Ten Worst Automobiles From TTAC Nov 13th, 2007 1:05:33 am - Subscribe

The Truth About Cars (TTAC) released the 2007 Top Ten Worst Automobiles this month. And these cars were those which are found to have the worst among today's cars with the worst reputations. According to the publisher of TTAC, Robert Farago, these cars are the worst cars in the US car market. He said, “From a long and ignoble list of nominees, our readers have chosen ten cars that are less desirable than swordfish ice cream. They’re a rolling condemnation of their manufacturers’ lack of vision, taste, engineering and marketing.”

I was actually looking for a Mercedes shock. But then I found this list on theautochannel.com. These top ten worst cards were taken from 136 entries. The truth is that twenty cars were chosen but only ten were revealed. The TTAC provided the poll to online visitors and they were able to get information from them.

The top ten worst cars were invaded by Chrysler's and General Motor’s cars. These cars are available locally and the reason why these are found to be the worst cars is maybe that the readers have something against these Motown car makers.

“Detroit makes some great cars, trucks and SUVs. And there were plenty of other brands that earned a place on our list of nominees and finalists. But like our writers, TTAC readers call it like they see it. These are the cars that they believe deserve a quiet, dignified and immediate death,” Farago insisted.

The Ten Worst Automobiles for 2007:
1. Jeep Compass
2. Chrysler Sebring
3. Chevrolet Aveo
4. Dodge Nitro
5. Chevrolet Uplander
6. Hummer H3
7. Hummer H2
8. Chevrolet TrailBlazer / GMC Envoy / Isuzu Ascender / Saab 9-7X
9. Chrysler Aspen
10. Saturn ION

engine-101 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR's Heart & Soul Nov 14th, 2007 1:52:39 am - Subscribe

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is built even faster than any fast and furious vehicle saying that it is the king of the road. Well, they should think again because the 2008 Viper SRT10 is packed with the most radical powertrain that can sweep everyone off their feet!

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR uses the Viper SRT10's latest 8.4-liter aluminum V-10 engine that generates an earth-rattling 600 horsepower and tire-burning 560 lb.-ft. of torque. It showcases a deep-skirted V-10 aluminum engine block with cylinder heads packed with Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC)-shaped combustion chambers, large valves and Variable Valve Timing (VVT).

The air-fuel combination in the cylinders is fired by platinum-tip spark plugs ablaze by individual plug coils mounted on the cylinder-head covers. Pistons are packed with large-diameter floating pins with bronze bushings for high-load capacity inside the cylinders. Artificial powder-metal attaching rods are protected with aircraft-quality fasteners for improved exhaustion strength.

"With the all-new 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR, SRT has taken the ultimate American sports car and injected it with an extra dose of racing DNA. With the Viper SRT10 as the starting point, SRT engineered a combination of reduced weight, race-tuned suspension and aerodynamic improvements to create the ultimate Viper for the street and track," says Mike Accavitti, the Director of the Dodge Brand and SRT Global Marketing and Communications, Chrysler LLC.
