If you are driving a 2007 Jeep Wrangler or a 2007 Dodge Nitro, you may soon be contacted by your local dealer. The reason: a recall. Yup, that’s right. According to Chrysler they will be recalling more than 80,000 Wrangler and Nitro units. That’s a lot huh? The reason for the recall is a serious one really. It seems that the engines of the 2007 Wrangler and Nitro are prone to stalling.

I guess this will really hurt Chrysler. Imagine telling consumers that your vehicles are as reliable as Asian branded vehicles. And then something like this happens. Of course, even Toyota recalled some vehicles earlier this year, but let’s face it, Toyota’s reputation is hard to question, at least right now. But for a brand that is lagging behind in terms of quality to have a blunder such as this would surely be costly.

To Chrysler’s credit though, they said that they are going to reprogram the power module. It seems that the current program allows for a brief amount of time when electrical power going to the instrument panel and to the engine is cut off. Although it might cause an engine to stall, which is pretty obvious, Chrysler said that a vehicle will restart if it is in motion. Juts like a push start eh.

The problem has been reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which conducted an investigation in the matter. It turned out that Chrysler has already received about 180 complaints. According to the carmaker, only one accident was reportedly cause by the malfunctioning engine. Although no one is injured, I think that one accident is already one too many.
