Opel Astra Rolls Out New 1.7 CDTI Engines

General Motors has unveiled a pair of new diesel engines for the Opel Astra. The new Opel Astra edition is modified to aptness providing varied enhancements to the vehicle’s auto body parts. It is now available to order with two innovative 1.7-liter diesel engines.
The latest generation common-rail turbo-diesel engines are compact and with their high-peak output prowess boosts ideal economy and low emission standards. When it comes to the diesel engines, they are mated with a six-speed manual transmission and maintenance free diesel particulate filter.
The 1.7-liter CDTI ECOTEC unit with 81 kW/110 hp produces 140 g of CO2 per kilometer and the 92 kW/125 hp version 146 g/km. Here’s the new generation of clean diesel engines:

Both the new 1.7 CDTI units in the third-generation Astra include common-rail direct injection, four valve technologies with swirl control and cooled exhaust gas recirculation with electropneumatic bypass flap control. The result: a highly refined direct response and superlative fuel economy. The compact turbocharged engines have a 79 mm bore and 86 mm stroke which provides a displacement of 1686 cubic centimeters. The cylinder head is created from light alloy and engine block from gray cast iron. Its 16 valves are triggered directly by two overhead camshafts by way of flat-base tappets; maximum injection pressure tops at 1800 bar. A turbocharger with variable vane technology ensures instant response times.
Opel/GM’s engineering team achieved the level of cleanliness (pertaining to the green them hoopla in the automotive industry) by improving exhaust gas recirculation system with a cooling function as addition. Electropneumatically operated bypass flaps, controlled by the engine management system, guarantee that the exhaust gas reaches a temperature proper for combustion on its way back into the cylinder.
