Protection against my mother’s anger
As her tempest storms toward me
Like the fabled willow I bend nimbly
Dodging the onslaught, unmangled and unbroken
With a bile-proof gut, I swallow no insults
With a brick-thick back, I bear no shame
With Kevlar-skin, I absorb no spite
With spider-web-screened ears, I HEAR NO EVIL
So as her rage rains
I deflect the stinging sleet
I see the downpour of deformed need and pain
I HEAR NO EVIL
With a tender heart but a steely brain
I HEAR NO EVIL
I HEAR NO EVIL
I HEAR NO EVIL
I HEAR NO EVIL.
