I've reached video eighty eight. This is one is called "Lost" and is one of Coldplay's latest. I've had over 10 requests for this song, so I can say it's by popular demand.

Have a listen:

I'm going to continue my father's story in the next post, because I remembered something quite interesting and topical that I wanted to get out now. If you are in the UK then you may know about a TV programme called "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here". One of the celebrities in the show was a man called "David Van Day". I was at a friends house when I first saw that he was in there. My friend asked me who he was. I just said that he used to be in a successful band called Dollar in the early 80's, and that my opinion of him was not that great, to put it kindly.

I formed my opinion many years ago. When I was about 17 I worked in a shop called CRS (Co-operative Retail Services) in Uxbridge. On my lunch break I went shopping in WH Smith to purchase some music. One of them being a song called Videotheque by Dollar. It was just pure chance that David Van Day and Therese Bazaar walked in whilst I was buying. Both halves of Dollar. They happened to be there to sign copies of their new release, Videotheque. David was vertically challenged, and Therese was even shorter than him. She moved up the counter to me and picked up the records I was buying, complimenting me on my musical taste. Then we had a little chat. David was getting increasingly bothered by the lack of attention for him, and asked her to hurry up. So she signed my copy of their record, and took the disc over to him and more or less demanded that he sign it too.

I paid for my discs, said my goodbye's and went back to work. Therese smiled and bid me goodbye, and David said nothing. My impression of him was that he was quite selfish.

I've seen him on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here" and it looks like he hasn't changed much at all. I have to add that I thought Therese was wonderful. I felt that she was happy for the conversation, which made me feel good.

It's time for some more Youtube information.

At last I've passed 1,000 subscribers. The figure now stands at 1020.

There are 24,010 channel views and the overall video views are 414,193.

I'm not sure what I'm doing next, but it may well be another cover. There's a few to do. There's also another duet with Kareneng coming up soon happy.gif

jeffstunes My cover of Beautiful freak Mar 4th, 2010 9:55:46 am - Subscribe

89 videos and counting.

The title of this one is "Beautiful freak" and it comes off the album of the same name which was put out in 1996 by the band "The Eels". It's one of my all time favourite albums. At the time their music was cutting edge and I was a big fan of their lyrics. There's another on on this album that I'd like to cover soon as well. I've kept the basic melody the same. I've just used different instruments. This is what I came up with:

Now for part ten of my dad's story.

My dad part 10.

When I finally met my father, he was having a relationship with a woman called Sheila, who had two children. Sima and Kashif. She originally came from Tiger bay in Wales, although she certainly had asian roots. Sima and Kashif had great affection for my father. I thought the relationship between him and Sheila was a little odd, although that may just have been how I was looking at it at the time. There was some criticism of the relationship from family, but as far as I was concerned, if it made him happy then everything was ok. I believe that everybody should be allowed to live the life they want, and befriend the people of their choice. Sheila and her children lived in a Town called Southall on the outskirts of london with their scatty dog Ruffles. If you didn't already know, the bulk of people living in Southall are Asian. From being at the house many times, my father appeared a little bigoted, with negative comments about those from an Asian background. Yet he was romantically involved with an Asian. One possibility was that this was something that was drummed into him by those around him in his life, but it didn't seem likely, knowing his personality. He walked proudly with them among the streets of southall, as did I.

It is possible that his comments may have originated from those walks with the family though, because of several occasions that he told me about the insults and dirty looks he received from Asians whilst walking with Sheila and her children in town. That wasn't exclusive to him. I experienced a bit of that too, because I also walked with them. So if any racism existed in this vicious arena then it wasn't coming from my father's side. It was actually coming from the Asians who were horrified to see a white person walking with Asians as a family. How narrow minded. My father was human just like them. Only they were blessed with a good natural tan. happy.gif

jeffstunes Nectarines Mar 5th, 2010 5:00:27 am - Subscribe

A small diversion from music at the moment. Here's something a little different. I thought I'd start the year off with some humour. I was going through some old video of my daughter, and found the tape I made of her first year. There were a number of clips on the vid that still make me laugh out loud, so I thought I'd put those moments on youtube for all to see, and hopefully to be as amused as I was.

As my daughter was settling into solids well, I tried many different foods to see if she liked them or not. On her first christmas I thought I'd try her on Nectarines. The result was hilarious. She shuddered with each taste, but wanted more. I'm so glad I captured it on camera. It never fails to amuse me.

Here it is on my other Youtube channel:

Now for more about my dad.

My Dad part 11

As I mentioned before, my father was an alcoholic. I think it was this that was a key player in the demise of his relationship with Sheila. Kashif and Sima loved him dearly, but Sheila was understandably growing tired of the alcoholic friends being brought into the house. One of those was a guy affectionately called Bernie. Another was called Adam. Bernie died from alcohol related things a few years ago. He was a staunch Manchester city football supporter. He even managed to persuade Sheila's son Kashif into his sporting passion. Now my father was never a big man. In fact he stood about 5 foot 5 and was very slim. I recall a chat with Bernie during one of his many drunken moments. Where the conversation started evades me, but he started talking about how he could easily take me down at any time (in a violent sense). The likelihood of that was so remote, considering he was so drunk and could hardly even walk, and I was the sober one. His suggestion amused me, but my father was less than impressed having overheard the conversation. Dad bolted into the living room in a fit of rage and placed his hand around Bernie's neck and physically lifted him completely off the ground with one hand booming "Never, ever threaten my son". I was quite surprised because Bernie probably weighed more that 12 stone, and my dad was only about 9 stone. It's amazing what strength adrenaline conjours up. The other alcoholic friend of my father's that I got to know was Adam. He was a guy that could handle his drink. A Scotsman that totally enjoyed a good debate. Especially with me. Whatever your opinion, he would always look at it from other angles. I enjoyed my chats with him. As far as I know he is still alive. I think he finally gave up the drink. Lucky man. When I knew Adam he had a partner, who was also a lover of alcohol. I got a call from the police one morning, telling me that they were holding my father and Adam for an alleged rape of Adam's partner. Knowing my father, that was highly unlikely, and it later transpired that Adam's partner had a habit of accusing people of rape. Those are the people that make life more difficult for the genuine rape victims. That's just another one of those gifts from alcohol. It can make you do the strangest things.

My list of requests is out of control. it now exceeds three hundred. I get many more requests than I can possibly do, so I've decided to pick and choose from the list. This next choice is "You've got a friend" by "James taylor". A number of people in the past made comparisons with my voice and James Taylor. I don't believe I sound anything like him but that's my opinion.

Check it out and see what you think:

My Dad part 12

The two other drunks apart from my dad that I've told you about, worked for a while with my father at a company called "Taylor woodrow" in Greenford. I got the distinct impression that the company were winding up operations on the site they were working on. I recall being taken to their annual summer party. It was fun I suppose, but I didn't really know anybody there apart from those invited by my father. I visited his place of work on a number of occasions. I think he was employed in the capacity of some sort of security guard. It was a vast site with many buildings, yet none of them seemed to be staffed in any way. What perfect conditions for my father to work in, and I say that loosely. Nobody to witness him enjoying a tipple, and he most certainly did during working hours. He also used to bring home just about anything he could lay his hands on. By the time he left, his home was like a sub office of the firm happy.gif

I'm not sure if he ended up getting fired or made redundant from there, but it doesn't really matter in the end.

My father used to like to give. His gifts consisted of all sorts including precious and valuable items. I later discovered that these were all a product of his pilfering habit. So what was bequeathed to me. Let's see now. After adding it all up it amounts to nothing. He stole them from me, probably to buy more alcohol. I can't say I'm too bothered. I've never been one to wear jewellery. I kept them in a draw. I also didn't really consider them mine. The brutal truth is that he didn't have a right to give them either!

So, what's it like to be the offspring of a common thief and an alcoholic?

I can't see it being any different from anybody else. Most children don't agree with some of their parents actions, it's just that a quantity of my father's actions were illegal happy.gif

To be continued...

My Youtube number have been advancing fairly consistently. My average daily viewing figures are roughly between 1,100 and 1,300. Oddly enough though. Occasionally one of my videos gets a boost in viewing figures for no apparent reason. Like one video getting 4,000 views in 2 days. I'm still scratching my head.

My subscribers have increased to 1,183.

The amount of times my channel has been seen is 27,367 and finally, the overall video views have stormed past the half a million mark and now stand at 521,210.

Coming up next is more covering. I'm in the process of doing another duet so I'm not sure if that's going to come first.

jeffstunes A Kings of leon number Mar 9th, 2010 7:00:11 am - Subscribe

The ninety first of my Youtube vids, and astonishingly one of my choices. I thought I'd treat myself. I've been hearing a song for a while, but haven't really paid that much attention to it until recently. Then when I did give it a good airing, I found it very easy and enjoyable to sing. So I used a spare half an hour in the morning to record it. Literally. The song is called "Use somebody", and it's originally by "Kings of leon".

See what you think:

I thought I'd use the video opportunity to pump a website I made. It all started with answering my comments on YT. If you try to write more than four comments in ten minutes, you normally get challenged by Captcha. You get asked to type in made up words that are sometimes very amusing. I kept on clicking "Can't read" to make it generate loads of different alternatives, to find all the funny ones. Virtually all the words do not exist in real life, and pretty soon i started dreaming up dictionary definitions for those words. I was thinking of how amusing it would be if someone made a website with the fake Captcha words and fake definitions in a disctionary. It would be so funny. I couldn't wait for that to happen, so I quickly put together my own site and called it "Captchionary".

I sat down for a day going through some of the captcha images I've collected and added them to the site with definitions. I've made it so that anybody can submit their own captcha definitions. The more I get the better. I can't wait to see what other people come up with.

So keep an eye out for those amusing Captcha words. If you see one that brings an amusing definition to mind then right click on the Captcha image and save it to your computer. Then visit the Captchionary website at:

The Captchionary

There's a submission form at the bottom of the page. Fill out the fields including the path to your Captcha image, or you can just add a definition to one of the words already exisiting in the Captchionary. Then leave up to the vetting process. While you're on the site. Why not check out some of the existing words and definitions. You can click the "Hit me" link for random words. My cheeks already hurt from some that I've read.

Now down to my Youtube affairs. Here's the latest lowdown on the statistics.

Subscribers = 1,208

Channel views = 28,081

Total video views = 537,056

Until next time...
