Messianic Halakha comes from the word again to mean.
To walk, It is a term used for rules and rulings that govern Jewish life, In this lesson we will cover of the 25 Messianic Halakha listings, We will cover the Halakha importance of Shema- so then this is the fifth session covered thus far, We have covered 1. Overview 2. Milah 3. Mikvah 4. Tefillah and the fifth today being Shema
One of the first things i learned this week is that Yeshua himself quoted the shema as Moshe did in Dvarim 6. and I'll show you that in a second, There are three words i want to display in regard to shema and so an excellent example of Shema is pronounced Shmah- that has a primary meaning of Hear or Listen. It describes hearing and also it outcomes Understanding, Listening, The three terms of Shema then are to hear, listen and understand and so from a Hebraic standpoint it adds even a fuller meaning when expressing those three terms in depth
1.Hear- Azan- Listen/ Hashmauwth- Communicate/ Anah- Respond, Answer/ Akouo- To obey
2.Listen-Shama- To hear intelligently
3.Understand- Biyn- To discern/ Yada- To know/ Gnorizo- To reveal
Epistamai- To comprehend
So then in Dvarim 6.1-9
(The Complete Jewish Bible/ with MCM definition)
Now this is the mitzvah, the laws and rulings which Adonai your God ordered me to teach you for you to obey(Akouo) In the land you are crossing over to possess, 2. so that you will fear(yare-revere)Adonai your God and observe(natsar-to guard, protect, maintain)all his regulations(chukkim) and mitzvot that I am giving you-you, your child and grandchild- as long as you live(Continuous)and so that you have long life. 3. Therefore listen(Shama)Israel, and take care to obey, so that things will go well with you , and so that you will increase greatly, as Adonai, the God(YHVH)of your ancestors, promised you by giving you a land flowing with milk and honey(Provision, productive land)4. Shema, Yisra'el(belonging to YHVH) Adonai Eloheinu. Adonai echad [ hear(Anah-respond,answer) Isra'el Adonai our God, Adonai is one(plurality)5. And you are to love Adonai your God with all your heart(Leb- With all that beats within you) all of your being(hayah- existence/ esmen-We are)and all your resources or might(Gbuwrah- Valor, Force, Power, Strength)
Mark 12.18-31(Please read the whole chapter when you can)
Then some Tz'dukim(Sadducees) came to him . They are the ones who say there is no such thing as resurection(Remember that difference they had with the Prushim) so they put to him a sh'eilah( question, saying, test)19.Rabbi, Moshe wrote for us that if a man's brother died and leaves a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and have children to preserve the man's family line- Deut 25.5- 20. There were seven brothers. The first one took a wife and when he died, he left no children 21. The the second one took her and he died without leaving children, and the third likewise, 22. and none of the seven left children. Last of all, the woman also died 23(Yeshua responds to the test- In the Resurrection(Which the Tz'dukkim don't believe) whose wife will she be?(question opposed back at them) For all seven had her as wife 24. Yeshua said to them “Isn't this the reason that you go astray? Because you are ignorant both of the Tanakh and of the power of God? 25. For when people rise from the dead, neither men nor woman marry(No marriage in the Kingdom) they are like angels in heaven. 26. And as for the dead being raised, haven't you read in the book of Moshe( Exodus 3.6) in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, I am the God of Avraham, the God of Yitz'chak and the God of Ya'akov 27. He is God not of the dead, but of the living! You are going far astray 28.One of the Torah teachers(scribes) came up and heard them engaged in this discussion. Seeing that Yeshua answered them well, he asked him” Which is the most important mitzvah of them all? 29. Yeshua answered,” The most important is (Dvarim 6.1-9- For all those who say the Old Brit isn't in the New Brit- here's proof)
Yeshua chants it himself: Sh'ma Yisra'el, Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai echad[ hear, O Isra'el, the Lord our God, the Lord is one], 30. and you are to love Adonai your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your understanding(Biyn) and with all your strength 31. The second is this:
you are to love your neighbor as yourself( Leviticus 19. 18-Torah)
So then Yeshua knew the law(Torah of not Moshe but of YHVH) and look at all the Torah portions he was teaching in these verses and yes he quoted the Shema.
For all these religious Jews who say Yeshua can't be the Moshiach because he didn't proclaim all the Torah, Here's proof, most religious Jews haven't read the New Testament to see for themselves.
Let's look at this lesson:
Keep in mind the word used in session one: Halakha Shel Ha'Derech- The walk of the or this way, Specifically how we are to walk according to Torah, and walking according to Torah is yet walking with Yeshua- We do so after the inward man to please Yeshua, not just to fulfill the requirements, We hold a dear and special relationship because we serve thee only living and true Moshiach- Yeshua that same Moshiach which all of Israel will later realize as the true Moshiach, Shema Yisrael or Sh'ma Yisroel or just Shema Hebrew for Hear-Anah- To answer, To respond
Which are the first two words of the section of Torah which is the centerpiece of the morning and evening Jewish prayer services. This Shema is another Tefillah which is expresed as Shema-Hear/ Yisrael- O Israel/ Adonai-The Lord/ Eloheynu-
Our Hashem is/ Adonai Echad- One Lord( Encompassing Abba, Ruach and Yeshua)
The Shema is the central prayer in the Jewish Siddur- Prayer Book- and is often the first section of scripture that a Jewish child learns- Deut 6.4. during it's recitation in the synagogue- Orthodox Jews pronounce each word very carefully and cover their eyes with their right hand. Many Jews recite the shema at least twice daily- once in the morning, evening and at bed time. The Shema is actually more than just six words, The undertone response of Barukh Shem Kevod Malkhuto Le'Olam Va'Ed- after a pause- Deut 6.5-9/Mark 12. is recited which stresses the Mitzvot to love(obey) your Hashem YHVH with all your heart, Leb, Nephesh, Kardia and Nshamah(Soul) and Might or Resources- Gbuwrah- Valor, Force, Power, Strength
The statement declares this plurality we keep seeing about YHVH and his son Yeshua, That plurality causes it to be impossible not to see Yeshua in the divinity of YHVH the word Echad in Hebrew implies a unity in diversity. The word for one and only one- unique is rendered as Yachid- For example in Exodus 26.6 which describes the various parts of the Tabernacle( Miskan) are to be constructed so that it shall be one( Echad) Tabernacle. The Shema requires concentration and consciousness, As i talked about how we should not be reciting prayers and following such religious duties out of traditional normality to the point that we forget each word and why we are saying it, We can be so used to doing things that we forget it's Kodesh- It's Holy and it actually loses it's Holiness and becomes formality, not based on relationship when that happens we are no different that the Tz'dukkim and Prushims, The Sadducee and Pharisees- Who wore long Tzitzit and religious uniforms and bright galore clothings to be seen. The fervent declaration of the unity or oneness of Hashem YHVH, over the course of the centuries, from the days of the sages on, as soon as a child began to speak he was taught to repeat daily with the utmost awe and reverence, the ringing Hebrew words of Shema until he knew them by heart. He continued to repeat them twice a day in his prayers through out all the days of his life. And the shema was his last conscious utterance as he lay dying, later this declaration was elaborated and became a fundamental part of the daily prayer liturgy service, both morning and night, however in the time of danger or at the point of death, the recitation of the first verse cited or even only it's first two Hebrew words- Shema Yisrael- have been considered sufficient by the Rabbis of Israel, Since in Jewish belief, the intention is what matters most. A illustration of this devotion to the shema is recorded in the Talmud concerning the death of Rabbi Akiva- who we as Messianic Jews don't really like, because he ended up serving Idolotry and worshiping a man whom he called Moshiach causing the first Century Yehudim B'Moshiachs to run to Pella, He caused lots of problems for the first century Messianic Believers- anyway- it shows a good account of Shema, So Rabbi Akiva who was the inspiration of the Bar Kochba revolt against the Romans when the rebellion had been crushed in 135 C.E. In a sea of blood, The romans put the sage to the torture. When his torments had become unbearable to shomayim and with all his remaining Strength cried out the shema- Hear O Israel. The Lord our Hashem, The Lord is Echad(One) And when he reached the word one(Echad) he stubbornly hung on to it lovingly continued to murmur it, refusing to let it go and died on it. Countless of Martyrs since then have repeated the Shema with traidtional fervor as they died at the enemies of Israel and the Jewish people. Yet curiously the Shema does not evoke any grim or desperate feelings in the believing Jew, But only the chedvah- Joy of dedication, This is triumphantly expressed in one of the morning prayers called: The Ashrei
which states Happy are we! How goodly is our portion, how pleasant our lot and how beautiful our heritage! Happy are we who, early and late, morning and evening twice every day, declare Shema, In another prayer section called: The Musaf Amidah of Shabbat and holidays, when the Toray is taken out of the Ark on Shabbat and holidays. The commandment of saying Shema is fulfilled by reciting it in the Shacharit and Ma'ariv services. The Shema should be said more audibly than the Amidah since the Shema reaffirms the basic tenets of the Jewish faith, The Shema may be said while standing or sitting, The Jews of Israel use to stand and we still do to show the Shemas importance and Holiness and to demonstrate that saying Shema is an act of testifying in Hashem who he is and of course we have already proven that Yeshua himself said it for the same reasons suggested in this lesson. If a congregation doesnot recite the Shema, It is not Messianic period. Shema is the pillar of Judaism, including Messianic Judaism and must be recited by the leaders and the congregation- The Tefillah Shema Yisrael can be likened to a declaration of dependence to the creator of the universe. Talmud describes it as the vehicle with which to accept the Yoke of Shomayim, Rabbi Avigdor Miller pointed out that the word Shema- To hear is the word that was used at the moment of the original acceptance of Hashem and his Torah at Sinai when the Jewish people cried out
” Na'aseh Venishmah”- We will do and we will hear- As the Jewish forefathers declared 3300 years ago so do the Jews declare today “ Shema Yisrael”
Our sages teach us that the original recitation of the phrase:
Shema Yisrael Hashem Elokaynu Hashem Ehad dates back to our forefather Ya'akov. We are taught that at the close of Ya'akovs(Jacob) life he called all of his children to his bedside to say farewell and to reveal the destiny of the Jewish people, When he was unsuccessful sharing his visions and insights regarding the future of the Jewish people he grew despondent and concerned that perhaps his children were not true to Hashem YHVH of Israel. As that anxiety filled Ya'akov- Ya'akovs chidren recited the Shema in unison saying: Shema Yisrael Echad- This provided comfort and fulfillments to him at the closing moments of his life, that commentary is based in it's view on Genesis 49.29-33- But it is also backed up in the Brit Chadasha in Hebrew 11.21- Which states by trusting, Ya'akov when he was dying, blessed each of Yosefs sons, leaning on his walking stick as he bowed in prayer.
Perhaps that prayer in those last minutes was the shema, thereafter verse 21. after he prayed, The scriptures doesn't say what he prayed- We assume we said the Shema, But what we know for a fact is that he states a few Torah events throughout the ending of the chapter, he quotes – Gen 47. 31/ Exodus 2.2./ Daniel 6.23/
Habukkuk 2.4
In conclusion:
The definition of religiosity is. A weak superficial religious sentiment. So then something that is superficial is something being on a surface, shallow, not thorough or within,You know wearing Kippa, Tzitzit, Tillit,Tefillin Etc. isn't done to look religious,
It should be done to show your obedience to Torah and your willful desire to obey YHVH out of Love, Our Love should declare our obedience, not religious wear, because Torah said to do so as far as Tzitzit, Tillit and Tefillin are concerned, Let us not become so religious, superficial that we forget why we do what we do and wear what we wear, not to be seen or to look holy, not to present a image that appears as Idolatry, but to show our allegiance under Torah. our desire to obey his word and to live for Yeshua.
