Freed pointes

So I wore my new Freed pointe shoes today. They're not magic shoes, i.e., my feet don't look amazing, but they do seem to be a bit better than Sanshas. Though the profile is a bit high so my toes were scrunched.

And it felt like my feet were pointed when I was pointing them - sounds odd but when I wear Sanshas (or others), my ankle points, but... Read More

New shoes

Class today was combined (lower level with our level) so there was a lot of people in class. One of my friends who quit ballet two years ago, took class today. I miss having her around so it was great that she was there.

My new Freeds arrived - fast turnaround - only 1 week! And came from overseas to boot. I hope they work for me.... Read More

Dead shoes

I wore an old pair of Sansha ovations (I wore them for a show in March, and by May, thought they were too dead). Plum was much better, even though the left shoe was a bit too dead for my taste. The right shoe was fine.

So I guess they did change the specs for that shoe. Arg. I hate that. Well, I think I'm going to head to the Capezio store ... Read More

Pointe shoe quest

I need to get new pointe shoes. A totally different brand/model. Arg.

I ordered some Freed Classics - should be coming in the next couple of weeks, but before that - I am stuck w/ So Dancas. And the Sanshas which absolutely will not work for me.

I am thinking of trying a diff shoe, one of the Capezio models. We'll see.

Ran Plum onc... Read More

Class today was just bleh. It was okay, but while everyone else is having a blast, it's just okay for me.

I don't know what I am going to do about my pointe shoes...... Read More

Try harder

After class today, they were running the grand pas and coda, and since the plum variation is in between the two, I did my variation. Didn't go very well because I'm not used to wearing So Dancas (well, not since a few years ago) and also the music was not slowed down.

Not saying that those are valid excuses (since I hate excuses) but that's ju... Read More

Class was fine today... then we had rehearsal afterwards for Snow and that went fine too...

The floor is different... the gray marley is a bit disorienting but I think it'll be fine once we get used to it.... Read More

Guest teacher

Guest teacher again tonight (same as last week, but this time they didn't announce it ahead of time). Class was fine - my turns were inconsistent - one moment I was whipping around three times, another, I was falling out of them.

The teacher gave me a couple of corrections (like not pulling off my leg/hip, and not letting my leg dip down duri... Read More

Bad air quality

Another small class yesterday (Monday) - only 4 people.

Because of the wildfires in the area (well, not that close, but the smoke and particulates travel down here), it was a bit difficult to breathe. So I decided not to run my Plum variation all the way through...

but then I did anyway :) It actually wasn't bad, and I wore my So Danca po... Read More

Three times the charm

After class and a short rehearsal for the CentralChor's piece, I ran the Plum variation twice (while everyone else was at lunch). Not twice in a row, but once, a few minutes to figure out stuff that needed to be fixed, and then another time. That variation is killer, especially when the air is cold and dry.

And then Dir asked if I wanted to sh... Read More
