| Biography | Currently I'm working at BT, where I'm responsible for technology strategy, which gives me a fantastic opportunity to get involved in all kinds of open-source and open-platform issues. I'm a regular presenter at industry events, covering telecoms and open-source. Over several years at BT, I've driven all kinds of projects, but the most fun have been on maintenance automation, digging into the full complexities of the network and squeezing the best out of it, and most recently, on getting an open voice applications platform up and running in BT's global network. I've also been an ITU Rapporteur in SG4, have at least one algorithm in an ITU-R recommendation, and have been published in the IET's Satellite Communications book (edited by Prof Barry Evans). I wrote a quick howto long ago for playing windows streams via linux browsers for the ant-farm, have designed test equipment, worked for a software consultancy on an electronic piano, and performed lots of component level maintenance on video, tv, hifi, av and other interesting machines. Oh yeah, I've got an amateur radio licence too, so listen out for G8PHM! I'm married, have two lads, one attending Grammar School, and one due to start at the same school in September. And finally, I'm also a governor at my local primary school, have a postgraduate certificate in management and an honours degree in electronics with physics. |
