WhatWhen I bought my first digital camera, I took the time to set my budget, do some research online through reviews, etc.. and then go around to stores and actually try out the cameras that I was considering. When I got back from window shopping, I compiled all of my research, price quotes from froogle and retail stores, considered the prices of media upgrades and any mental notes about the cameras and made my decision.

I've realized that not everyone is the same and a lot of people go into a digital camera purchase blindly picking only by price, brand or a retail store associates recommendations. Usually when that happens, you blow your entire budget on the camera only, and one you know nothing about, just to have to go out and purchase a bigger media card then the 32mb card included.

On top of that, you'll probably want to buy a set of four rechargeable batteries and a battery charger as well as a camera bag and possibly a card reader for your computer. I always try to share tips to people I know going into a purchase, but today, while browsing digg, I found a great site and agree with all of their tips, so it'll definitely be a resource from now on or anyone wishing to make the change to digital or just purchasing a new digital camera.
