Warning: I recorded with my levels a little high and forgot to lower them in post production so you may want to lower your speakers a bit.

Free calls to the US and Canada
May 18th, 2006 5:38:49 pm - SubscribeMood: ok
Current Addiction: bloglines.com
I've told most of my friends and family about Skype, but only a handful of them have signed up for accounts. I've also used Skype and another voip client, Gizmo Project, for meeting the guys i do the Spurscast with in a conference room for recording since we are all in different locations.
My pitch about Skype is usually how you can make free calls without wasting cellphone minutes, as long as you have Skype, a mic and speakers.
When I moved into my house, I decided against getting a landline, thinking I could make most phone calls with my cellphone and "Skyping" anyone who had downloaded and uses it (not many) or I could use the Skype-out feature for calling landlines and cellphones at a decent rate.
I just read a few days ago that you can now Skype-out to the US and Canada to landlines and cells completely free until the end of 2006. This comes at a perfect time, especially since I get more dropped calls at home than ever before. That is especially frustrating when you are on the line with the cable company and almost get through to a real person and the call is dropped.
Skype is a free download, and is cross-platform. Like I said earlier in the post, all you need is a computer mic (starting around $8-$10) and speakers or headphones and you are set.
If you want to give Skype a try, you can call me at my username, mad0214.
