So I got tagged

Jennifer and Jackie of one of my favorite podcasts, the Morning BrewCast tagged me for eight things you may not know about me.

1. I played Trumpet in high school for band and mariachi and played mariachi professioanally for about a year after high school.

2. I wanted to be a journalist since I was in 5th grade. I ended up going to journalism school and took abut every journalism class until I got my dream job covering the Spurs.

3. I spend a lot of time that I could use to be productive figuring out how to be more productive and coming up with a GTD system that works for me on my mac.

4. If I didn't twitter it before, I write for a blog called MacApper

5. I usually have about 50 cool ideas and end up developing 4 or 5 of them.

6. My first job was at Pico De Gallo in San Antonio as a bus boy.

7. I might hold the record for the most podcast consumption in one day or week.

8. I never read email forwards. In fact one time I told my family, especially my mom and sister that I never read any of their emails that had a fw: in front of it, and even if I didn't send that email to 8 people, Jesus still loves me, damnit.

Next in line are:

David, Jim, Christopher & Marcus, Jeff and Alan.

Video of my nephew

I was trying to keep my nephew and niece entertained this past weekend while I was in SA for PodCamp San Antonio so I opened my MacBook. It has an integrated iSight webcam, so I started shooting crazy pics with photobooth then shot a video of my nephew Christian. I just started rolling and told him to do something and he belted out this song.

PodCamp San Antonio

As I wrote in my last post, I am one of the organanizers of PodCamp San Antonio. We now have an official date and venue for the event. It will be on May 19th at the Sunset Station Depot.

PodCamp San Antonio is an UnConference. It is an “UnConference”, meaning that it's a conference organized in an ad-hoc manner for everyone to attend and participate in. There are no keynote speakers or rigidly defined schedules. Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

Want to learn more about podcasting, blogging & vlogging? Always wanted to know more about the New Media? Then Podcamp San Antonio is the place to be. We are planning for a crowd of the most plugged-in, most active bloggers, podcasters, video and new social media geeks from Texas and beyond. While it is a FREE event we do ask that you let us know you’re coming. So we can make Podcamp San Antonio one you'll be talking about on Monday morning. Sign up by filling out the form at podcampsanantonio.org or by sending an email to podcampsanantonio@gmail.com.

I'm actually hoping David will sign up to be a presenter to talk about blogging, starting a blog network and the implementation of new media on Aeonity. Registration is open for presenters and attendees, so if you have something to share, sgn up as a presenter the same way.

While PodCamp San Antonio is free for attendees, there are major costs for putting on a free conference, so if you are intersted in having your company sponsor and be featured at PodCamp San Antonio or just donating, click on the Paypal Donate button at podcampsanantonio.org or email me personally at madgfx at gmail dot com.

BarCamp Austin

Went to BarCamo in Austin this weekend. It ws a pretty cool event and I was thre pretty much from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you've never herd of BarCamp, it's basically what is called an un-conference. It;s like a conference, but not as formal and let's the people there choose what will be presented.

I got to hear about a lot of cool stuff from Quipit to Clip Marks and met some cool people along the way.

At one point, a rep from Microsoft opened up a $1,000 beer tab for everyone, although I had to waste it on Sprite. The same guy also gave everyone that was there early a licensed copy of Microsoft's new Expression Studio, which is supposed to compete with Macromedia's (now Adobe) studio.

Anyway, I also got a chance to spread the word about an unconference I'm planning called PodCamp San Antonio.

It'll be on May 19, and if anyone is remotely interested in podcasting or wants to learn more, you can learn more by visiting podcamp.org.

Live Spurscast All-Star post game show

Sunday night, my Spurscast co-hosts and I will have a live streaming interactive (call-in/chat) episode of the Spurscast. We'll discuss the All-Star game, the trade bringing Melvin Ely to the Spurs and we hand out midseason awards. It will star at 10:15 p.m. CST. But we wouldn't think about doing a live interactive show without some interaction from other Spurs fans, so we'd love to have as many people in the Talkshoe chat and call in as possible to talk Spurs basketball.

To listen to the show live, you can go to the Spurscast Live Talkshoe Page on Sunday night and click on the orange LISTEN ONLY button.

In order to chat and call in to the show, you'll have to Sign up for a free talkshoe account and download the software(Windows/Mac/Linux) and click on the Listen, Text or Talk Live button on the url=http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=3685]Spurscast LivePage at 10:15 p.m. CST.

You can call from a landline, cell phone or Skype using the number (724) 444-7444, then it’ll ask you for the show id (3685) and your pin which you created when you signed up. Once you’ve done that, you’re in and you will be able to chat with us and listen to the show at the same time and/or put yourself on the call-in list which we will take in order.

The process may seem a bit long, but we have actually tested it out several times and had a few others test it out with us without any problems and found it to be simple to use and fun to interact.

We look forward to seeing and hearing from as many Spurs fans as possible and have a great show.

We will have two giveaways, one 22" poster for the first person that correctly guesses a trivia question and a mini game program for the Spurs at Nets game in New Jersey for a caller selected randomly.

Happy New Year

I hope everyone's holidays were great. It was great having my entire family over me and my brother's house for Xmas. I enjoyed the time we spent together and luckily I didn't have to waste any of it doing last minute Christmas shopping.

My gift to myself, which I actually got a bit early was a new Macbook Core 2 Duo Laptop with an 80 gb hard drive and 1 gb of ram, which I plan to upgrade to 2 for my birthday. A few of the gifts I got from family where a laptop sleeve and bag, a Longhorn beanie, cologne, a few t-shirts, a watch and some gift cards.

For New Years Eve, my brothers went out earlier in the day and bought a whole bunch of fireworks and then came home, ate some pizza and watched some tv until about 11:00 p.m. or so when we started popping the fireworks. I popped a few but most of the time I was freezing and tried to stay warm or I was attempting to take fireworks photos. I say attempting because I've always had trouble taking good fireworks photos with my consumer Canon Powershot digital camera. I think I did allright this year compared to years past though.

Below is one of the photos I took and you can see more in my fireworks set on Flickr.

3 years on Aeonity!

I just went back into my archives because I haven't posted in some time and noticed my first post on December 8, 2002.

While I haven't been the most active poster, I go through stretches where I blog quite a bit and really enjoy what Aeonity brings to the table as far as a blogging site. I've used several other blog sites and systems and I've never felt like part of a community like I do with Aeonity.

The other thing I enjoy is the hard work David and Jim put into Aeonity and how they are constantly striving to improve it and add new features.

So Happy Bday Aeonity. I look forward to seeing what Aeonity will be like in the next three years.

Loose Change vs. Popular Mechanics debate

I don't know if any of you have seen the "Loose Change" video yet, but I would definitley reccomend checking it out at Google Video. The video here is a debate on Democracy Now the day before 9/11/06 between the makers of "Loose Change" and editors of Popular Mechanics who wrote, :"Debunking the 9/11 Myths."
