today i bought a new spyderco blade. it is made out of the absolute best steel on the market and is one of the toughest knives out there. i am very pleased with it.. i was buying this knife for SD but the thing is, it turned out to be not one of the better SD knives so i am going to have to get another someday, somewhere.

meshmdz Knife vs. Gun Jun 4th, 2006 7:02:12 pm - Subscribe
Many of us here EDC both a knife and a gun, many EDC just a knife and some ( sigh ) EDC nothing. For those of us who only carry a knife how many have heard the old phrase "You never bring a knife to a gunfight". It seems the perception is that if you have a gun you will always come out ahead in a confrontation with a knife.
This is really so much Bull. Most shootings occur within 15 feet. A knife even by someone untrained is deadlier in this range. In it's respective range of 20+ feet the knife is a far more deadly weapon than the handgun. One can access a knife faster than a gun. My knife never has to be chambered or have the safety taken off. My knife will never jam or misfire on me. My knife will never run out of ammo. The knife is quiet and many times one will not even know that a knife has been deployed until they are bleeding profusely. A knife is the more threating of the two. You have a better chance of surving a shooting even one involving major organs than you do of surviving a knife attack to same said organs. I can hide a knife ten times easier than I can a handgun. I live in a state where open carry is permitted, how many places have handgun laws where you can have access that fast? A handgun even when all rounds have been fired is never a 100% stopper there is always the chance that the individual will keep coming. With a knife you have the ability to make sure your attacker is incapable of continuing any attack. A knife requires little to no training in order for one to use it effectively it is a instinctive weapon. In order to truly be sure of stopping any attack center of mass is the rule for a handgun. With proper training a knife can be used to end a confrontation with non lethal means.
Most of us knifers here already know all this but I just felt like ranting.
