Madonna injured in birthday ride accident Aug 25th, 2005 7:03:07 pm - Subscribe
Mood | psycho

Madonna suffered several broken bones when she fell off a horse while riding at her English country estate on her 47th birthday.

The accident occurred at Madonna's Ashcombe House estate.

"She sustained three cracked ribs, a broken collar bone and a broken hand but is expected to be released from hospital later this evening," spokeswoman Barbara Charone said.

"The star was celebrating her 47th birthday with her husband, film director Guy Ritchie and her two children, Lourdes and Rocco."

The singer was riding with her assistant when she had the accident.

Her husband rushed her to hospital.

"She was riding a new horse, not her regular horse," her New York publicist Liz Rosenberg said.

"Hopefully she's going to get out of the hospital late tonight but she did suffer a few breaks, so she's pretty banged up."

Madonna, whose latest album Confessions on a Dancefloor is due for release in November, has been an avid fan of English country life since marrying Ritchie.

Among the country pursuits the Material Girl superstar enjoys is clay pigeon shooting.

Bought by the celebrity couple three years ago, Ashcombe House is a six-bedroom, 18th Century mansion near the picturesque village of Tollard Royal.

Tucked away in a deep chalk valley on the borders of rural Wiltshire and Dorset, it is the former home of the British society photographer Cecil Beaton and its pheasant and partridge shoot is considered one of the best in England.

Last year, Madonna won the right to exclude hikers from much of the $A21 million estate.

The singer and her husband argued that unrestricted public access would destroy their right to a private family life.

That Kiss... Aug 10th, 2005 5:12:14 pm - Subscribe

This is an interview with Britney Spears right after the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, where she and Madonna Kissed during a performance.

Gideon Yago: So who slipped who the tongue?

Britney Spears: Oh my gosh. No one slipped anyone the tongue. It was just a kiss, a nice kiss.

Yago: You kiss your grandfather like that?

Spears: (Shrieking) WHAT! No, it was just a kiss, and that's it, there was no tongue!

Yago: Was that the first time you've ever kissed a woman?

Spears: Yes! Oh my gosh.

Yago: How did that whole thing come about? Was that her idea or was that your idea?

Spears: Well, in rehearsal she would play around a little bit. And she said when we actually do it, let's just feel it out here 'cause there was no choreography in that part. So we just felt it out.

Yago: How did it feel?

Spears: Cool, yeah.

Yago: Growing up, were you always a big fan of Madonna?

Spears: Oh yes, oh yes, definitely. The whole moment was so surreal 'cause I've looked up to her and I sang "Like a Virgin" when I was 3 and 4, so being up there was a moment I will never, ever forget. It was a performance of a lifetime. Being in her presence was an honor.

Yago: Sometimes performances like that lead to collaborations in the studio. Are there any plans for you two to go run off into the studio?

Spears: We'll see, we'll see about that.

Yago: Really?

Spears: (Coyly) Yeah.

Yago: Why do you think that everybody fixates on that one kiss?

Spears: I think they just think that it's bizarre. I don't know.

Yago: On behalf of most of America, I just wanted to say thank you.

Spears: Well thank you!

Yago: So tell me about the "B" necklace.

Spears: The "B" necklace?!

Yago: The "B" necklace that's around your neck.

Spears: This is something that Madonna gave me and I was very very happy when she gave it to me. She has one that says "M" and I have this one, so, "B!"

Who\'s That Girl (1987) May 3rd, 2005 6:20:10 pm - Subscribe
Mood | fabulous

Why does everyone feel they have to constantly put this movie down? It is cute and funny (exactly what it is meant to be). Madonna wasn't out to prove herself as an Oscar calliber artist with this movie anyhow! She was just doing what the character called for, and she did it well. I loved her in this movie; it is my second favorite Madonna movie after Evita. The soundtrack is excellent too. It is no better or no worse than any cheesy 80's flick. To all the critics, just don't take it so seriously and you might have fun watching it. Madonna is a goddess!!!

Who's that girl

Who's that girl, who's that girl

When you see her, say a prayer and kiss your heart goodbye
She's trouble, in a word get closer to the fire
Run faster, her laughter burns you up inside
You're spinning round and round
You can't get up, you try but you can't

Chorus:

Quien es esa nina, who's that girl
Senorita, mas fina, who's that girl
Quien es esa nina, who's that girl
Senorita, mas fina, who's that girl

You try to avoid her, fate is in your hands
She's smiling, an invitation to the dance
Her heart is on the street, tu corazon es suyo
Now you're falling at her feet
You try to get away but you can't

(chorus)

Intermediate:

Light up my life, so blind I can't see
Light up my life, no one can help me now

Run faster, her laughter burns you up inside
He's spinning round and round
You can't get up, you try but you can't

(chorus)
(intermediate)

Who's that girl
Now, who's that girl
Now, who's that girl
Now, who's that girl

(chorus)

Catholic League slams Madonna and Guy Apr 29th, 2005 4:04:26 pm - Subscribe
Mood | unmotivated

New York, Mar.30: Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie have enraged the Catholics by dressing up like a nun and the ailing Pope.

The couple who donned ecclesiastical costumes at a London party celebrating the Jewish holiday of Purim were instantly condemned to languish in the outer circle of hell by the Catholic League President William Donahue. "It just goes to show you what a moral slug this man [Ritchie] is that he would get dressed up as the Pope at a time like this", New York Daily News quoted Donahue as saying.

While, Madonna's rep Liz Rosenberg insisted that those costumes are worn as a traditional Purim rite. “No disrespect was intended. Madonna dreamed of becoming a nun when she was a little girl. She said, "Finally, Iwill make my father proud!" the report quoted her as saying.

Madonna had hit off similar scandals way back in 1989 when she wore a wimple and a crucifix for her "Like a Prayer" video and later when she embraced Kaballah.

"We are quite disappointed after learning that she'd returned to the fold, so to speak. We Catholics thought we had finally gotten rid of the witch when she discovered kabbala. In the event she discovers the Wiccan religion, the Catholic League would be happy to donate a proper [witch] costume to her. And we would be ever so happy to send her husband a broom complete with instructions for what to with it", the report quoted an enraged Donahue as saying.

Like A Virgin Mar 14th, 2005 7:03:40 pm - Subscribe
Mood | immature

I made it through the wilderness
Somehow I made it through
Didn't know how lost I was
Until I found you

I was beat incomplete
I'd been had, I was sad and blue
But you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
Shiny and new

Chorus:

Like a virgin
Touched for the very first time
Like a virgin
When your heart beats (after first time, "With your heartbeat")
Next to mine

Gonna give you all my love, boy
My fear is fading fast
Been saving it all for you
'Cause only love can last

You're so fine and you're mine
Make me strong, yeah you make me bold
Oh your love thawed out
Yeah, your love thawed out
What was scared and cold

(chorus)

Oooh, oooh, oooh

You're so fine and you're mine
I'll be yours 'till the end of time
'Cause you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
I've nothing to hide

(chorus)

Like a virgin, ooh, ooh
Like a virgin
Feels so good inside
When you hold me, and your heart beats, and you love me

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Ooh, baby
Can't you hear my heart beat
For the very first time?

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, the Material Girl was born August 16, 1958, in Bay City, Michigan. The eldest of 8 children, she lost her mother to cancer when she was 6 years old, leaving her engineer father to raise their eight children. Madonna's star quality was evident at an early age, which prompted her to participate in school shows, be a school cheerleader, as well as take piano and ballet lessons.

She attended the University of Michigan on a dance scholarship, but she put aside her studies after two years of student life to head for New York City and pursue her dreams of becoming a star. In the Big Apple with hardly any cash, Madonna barely earned a living by working several minimum wage jobs, one of which was at a Dunkin Donuts counter at Times Square. She joined the Alvin Ailey dance troupe, where although she gained experience, she was not gaining much exposure as one of many dancers in the troupe. Madonna was itching to become famous, and this was not the way to achieve her pursuit of stardom. Developing more of an interest in music, Madonna joined her then boyfriend's band and had the opportunity to be backup singer and dancer for a well-known disco star. With more of a taste for pop music, Madonna began writing songs and performing at local dance clubs. She was beginning to receive the exposure she was aiming for and audiences were beginning to take notice of the confident, untamed singer.

DJ Mark Kamins played one of Madonna's demo singles "Everybody" and it became a popular club hit. Kamins is responsible for the relationship between Madonna and Warner Bothers, since he introduced the two in 1982. She was immediately signed for a record label and well on her way. In 1983, Madonna's debut album was released and spawned the America Top 20 chart hit single "Holiday". The album itself was not a tremendous success on the Top 40 radio stations, but it was a hit in the nightclubs. More singles such as "Lucky Star" and "Borderline" were released and were accompanied by music videos that, if anything, showed off Madonna's first "look", which has almost come to be representative of 80's pop culture.

While her debut album was still on the charts, Madonna released her second album in 1984, Like A Virgin. The album, as well as the title track, both reached the number one spots of the music charts. Already breaking music records in 1985, Madonna embarked on another dimension of her career -- as an actress. Her manager, Freddie DeMann, who was also pop icon Michael Jackson's manager in his Thriller days, negotiated some film roles for Madonna. She appeared as a nightclub singer in the film Vision Quest and as the lead in Desperately Seeking Susan. Susan may have had to be "seeked", but it was clear that the pop star Madonna had been found.

Her single from the Vision Quest soundtrack had become a hit, as was the Desperately Seeking Susan soundtrack, giving Madonna simultaneous hit singles and hit albums. Madonna then tried her hand at stage acting, performing in Goose and Tom-Tom, where she met actor Sean Penn. The couple got married, co-starred in the forgettable film Shanghai Surprise and got divorced after less than four years of wedded misery. By this point, Madonna had become a star and had already caused controversy for her "boy toy" image. Now she was causing more controversy with her 1986 single "Papa Don't Preach", about women getting pregnant out of wedlock. Her video for the 1989 single "Like A Prayer", which featured burning crosses in the background and Madonna, wearing nothing more than a slip, kissing an African-American eroticized saint. The Vatican censured the video and Pepsi backed out of their endorsement with Madonna. Still, the album Like a Prayer spawned 5 Top Twenty hits. In 1990, Madonna appeared in Dick Tracy with Warren Beatty (who she was dating), released the soundtrack for the film and had hit singles such as "Vogue", which had everyone "voguing" to the song; "Rescue Me"; and "Justify My Love", which was also controversial and initially banned from the MTV airwaves. The early 90's were marked with scandalous projects by Madonna, such as the documentary Truth of Dare, a behind-the-scenes account of her Blonde Ambition Tour; the X-rated coffee-table book Sex; her album, Erotica; and her speaking out about the AIDS epidemic. In 1992, Madonna sowed her entrepreneurial oats and founded the record company Maverick with her manager, which was part of a $60 million dollar, 7-year deal with Time Warner.

Taking a step away from her scandalous days, Madonna released a softer, more R&B tinged album, Bedtime Stories, spawning a hit duet with Babyface entitled Take A Bow. She returned to the movies with a role in A League of Their Own, Four Rooms and Blue in the Face. In 1996, she starred in the title role of the movie version of the musical Evita, which not only earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, but also made audiences gain a new found respect for her remarkable portrayal of Eva Peron. That same year, Madonna entered a new stage in her life -- motherhood -- with the birth of daughter Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon. Madonna returned to the music scene in 1998 with the introspective, meditative, and electronic-influenced Ray of Light. With the help of producer William Orbit, Ray of Light spawned such hits as "Frozen" as well as the title-track, as the world was introduced to a more relaxed, more spiritually in-tune Madonna. We heard Madonna last summer on the Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack with "Beautiful Stranger"; this year with the remix of the 60's hit American Pie (which also caused controversy); and in a starring role in the disappointing film The Next Best Thing, co-starring real-life pal Rupert Everett and Benjamin Bratt. With a new single entitled "Music", her new album of the same title is slated for release this fall, and a second baby is on the way with her boyfriend Guy Ritchie (she married him on the 22th of December).

From mesh-wearing, fish-net stocking Material Girl, to pointy-cone bra, tuxedo wearing diva, to sex-crazed woman, and finally to Zen and yoga-practicing mother, chances are we probably haven't seen half of what this pop icon has yet to achieve. In the 2000 era Madonna pubblish her new album: American Life. The title trak, American Life, was supported by one of the most countroversed video in wich Madonna played about the plan of the United States part in the Irak War. The video was censored and Madonna decided to use another version of it. The other songs from the album were supported from the European fans, while the American fans doesn't appreciate her political rule. In these years, she played a new movie from her husband Guy Ritchie: Swept Away, a remake of an Italian move, but she don't rescoss a lot of success.

In the 2004 Madonna begins her new world tour: The Reinvention World Tour. Madonna snobbed usual countries like Italy, Spain, Germany, creating lot of disappointment, preferring to vist fans she never done before like Portugal's and Netherland's one. During this show Jhonas Akerlund filmed a new documentary about Madonna's life on stage.
