neighbor WTOL Channel 11 Call for Action contacted - Subscribe
Sending e-mail to the Toledo Ohio Mayor's Office, Toledo Ohio Neighborhood's Department and Toledo Ohio City Council member have done nothing.

So, today I contacted Toledo Ohio's Channel 11's Call for Action. An e-mail from one of their contact people wanted more info and I provided it.

But, the problem is not just one bus stop on the corner of Cherry and Bancroft it is a lot of the bus stops. There are no trash cans and people just drop the trash on the ground. And if you look at the images from today, 8-20-06 you will see a bag of trash is on the ground near the bus stop.

Pride in Toledo? On the signs maybe.

First image from 8-20-06 Was something disturbing about the image? Which is why, it was, pulled down from Photobucket? Well, then how about putting a trash can at the bus stop? What a novel idea

And number two

This is a real disgrace

E-mail from an unidentified volunteer at the the Channel 11 Call to Action came across the wires.

The e-mail was not helpful as the volunteer, no name given in any of the e-mail just some aol address, needed to know too much information, in my opinion.

I did not and do not disclose my identity. Why?, simple privacy, period.

I can call a Police tip line and not leave any info. I call can various city agencies and not leave any personal info.

The Call for Action need too much info in my opinion about a simple matter like the need for a trash can at a Tarta bus stop. The volunteer even agreed that there was a need but with my name, rank and serial number no help was/is going to be given by Channel 11.

I really do not understand why a local source of help cannot view the images and take some action.

But, oh well, back to the photos and more e-mail to City Hall and Tarta until something gets done.

neighbor The city is aware that the bus stop is a mess?! Aug 22nd, 2006 4:55:21 pm - Subscribe
An e-mail came across the wires from the Director of the Neighborhoods Department, where the mess was first reported too in June, and I paraphrase here, that the city is aware that there are bus stops where people dump things and it is working with Tarta to get garbage cans installed and recycling bins installed.

Gee, it only took almost 75 days to get a direct answer from someone in government.

The e-mail also mentioned that the Tarta has a pilot plan to install garbage cans and recycling cans at some bus stops and the residents and business owners would help service the can. Great idea, but when there is no business owner or resident near by and the trash piles up show services it then? The city of course after the trash is reported.

The question I put in response was; at this bus stop it can be seen in the images that it is located and bolted to the sidewalk, so who is reponsible for the bus stop, the city or the plaza owner?

How many days before I get an answer? Hopefully fewer than 60.

The city has placed a trash can at the left of the bus stop shelter on Cherry Street and a big THANK YOU goes out to the departments involved.

Having thanked the city departments involved it might appear that there would be no need to maintain this blog.

I thought about that and have decided that it will not be taken down or removed.

There are other areas of the city need attention to motivate the leadership to act in a more proactive manner and not in a reactive manner.

Driving around the city in different areas over the weekend I noticed that still on Saturday there are places where there is liter and trash and outright garbage on the ground in plain sight. Driving down the Anthony Wayne Trail before the Zoo I could not helps but notice in an alley large piles of trash and debris piled high. Does nobody else see this?

Is this the look of a city that one wants?

I lived on the east coast for the better part of my life and would travel to New Your City and a city with as many people there was no trash in the alleys and on the streets. In some of the blighted areas there was but the areas were a small part of the total city.

The streets, and not just west side, but the lower east side and the working class neighborhoods were clean and tidey.

Why can't we have the same here?

As I have commented in e-mails to varied city departments and departmental heads, it's all about leadership.

If the leadership lets rules and regulations go unaddressed and fails to enforce and adhere to the rules and regulations how can the citizens be expected to take the rules and regulations as being meaningful.

There is no easy fix but there can be a fix. Enforce the rules.

If me as a citizen can spend a few moments while driving see these areas why cannot the fore persons and city employees not see them and report them. I put this question/comment to our leadership and to date I have not had any response.

Pride does not come from signs and talk. Pride comes from inside. Pride comes from wanting better and I am confident that the citizens of this city want better for the city. But with the current mindset it would seem that there is no place but down.

Well, that is not true. Lift our heads and look up to a better view of OUR city. Don't settle for less than that.

Make the city departments aware that we want better. Speak up about the conditions that you see and don't settle for the line, "that's the way it is."

It does not have to be the way it is, it can and will be better.
