What is with people in City Hall

Feb 2nd, 2007 9:00:58 am - Subscribe

I send e-mail week after week after week about the same situations and the same situation creap back up like, well trash from the dump.

I ask questions and get few answers until I nag someone and then the answers flow.

I complained about a residence on Sylvania Ave. whose tenants or residents have been placing trash bags, many, against the side of the house for months, yes months.

I first brought this to the cities attention in the fall and here it is Feb. 2007 and the trash is still being placed against the house, why?

Now, a new topic, communication.

Which I realize is a cliche to say but it is two ways.

I communicate via e-mail and I do not identify myself by name.

I have sent e-mail to the At-Large City Council members about gaps in the economic development department for years posted on the cities web site.

Response from the city council members; dead air, nada, zip, zilch.

I write one on his personal e-mail and I get a response, why has he not checked his office mail for two weeks, only he knows.

Really sad it is, really sad.

Proposed legislation regarding bus stops in Toledo, Ohio

Jan 24th, 2007 9:27:22 am - Subscribe

Dear City Council members;

"An ordinance to allow city inspectors to issue $75 tickets for poorly maintained benches at bus stops and to require refuse containers at bus stops."

This matter reported to have been discussed by The Blade needs the full support of the City Council to enact the legislation to allow for the city inspectors to ticket the owners and operators of the bus stops in the city. I
have photographed a few and campaigned for more trash containers at the bus
stops as citizens and patrons of Tarta and various fast food resturaunts located near bus stop do not dispose of trash properly as there is no maintained trash containers at the bus stops so the trash is left at the bus
stops to accumulate and liter our city sidewalks and tree lines.

You read and see all about the trash at the bus stops here; on this blog

Also should point out that reading through the City of Toledo Municipal Code I noticed that in regards to this problem there is no section regarding the future. Meaning that the authors of the legislation failed to address what may or may occurr in the future.

While we cannot predict the future we surely could try and plan better.

Been quiet so far

Jan 18th, 2007 9:12:02 am - Subscribe

It has been quiet for awhile with regards to trash issues.

After a spate of e-mails, regarding the Pride Filled Professionals in Toledo, Ohio I received an e-mail response from one of the city managers, who was less than pleased with some of the comments I made in the e-mails.

Such is life in a city job.

But on the flip of my comments came discussion and we can see that all along our goals have been the same, a clean city and adherence to the rules.

Sure, we did not agree on all things reported in the past but we must move forward.

I continue to make the city aware of people not following the rules and I sense that there is a new movement under way and for now.....I am sitting on the side lines....

Getting Toledo Ohio City Council members involved

Jan 10th, 2007 9:15:58 am - Subscribe

Recentlt there was a posting over at the Glass City Jungle blog Glass City Jungle about city council memembers and contacting them and getting answers from them.

I can say from my experiences that the responses are dissapointing at best. Councilmen Ashford has not responded directly to any e-mail I have sent and the majority of problems I report are in his district.

Sure, he may pass the complaints on but what about some response. Communication is not a one way process.

Passing on complaints week after week after week is not what I would call effective representation. Identifying and acting on the complaints are what I am looking for.

Is that possible from our city council members?

E-mail questions for the Pride filled professionals at city hall in Toledo Ohio

Jan 7th, 2007 7:59:44 pm - Subscribe

Has anyone bothered to drive around the greater Old Polish Neighborhood in Toledo from let us say, Central down to Bancroft and make a two to three block
deviation from either side of Lagrange? Anyone?

No? I didn't think. Well for starters there are many people in this area that to this day are still, STILL, putting trash in the alley to be picked up!!!! Guess they either did not get the rules, cannot read the rules or my favorite do not care!

Let see for starters;

trash in the alley of the 2600 block of Locust odd numbered side

piles in the rear of 133 Palmer

at the rear of a residence in the 100 block of Mettler there are trash bags piled up on a concrete pad.

2603 or 2605 Locust large piles of trash and wrecked vehicle in the rear of the residence.

Alley in 2200 block of Lagrange still has trash piled against various residences I reported this last year and did anyone notice or look?

Previously reported trash in the 2700 block of Walnut, residents are still putting trash bags on the ground against a garage, STILL!

Trash on the sidewalk of the 2300 block of Walnut, reported 12-30-06 to the cracker jack right on the ball immediate call city hall address.

It is really pathetic that in 2007 the administration and managers of this city allow this to continue unabated except for my constant poking and prodding to get something done.

Commissioner Highsmith reminded me that it takes time and it is the citizens responsibility to clean up and adhere to the rules.

Well, sure, but it is also the responsibility of the city to enforce and stop making excuses for the lack of over sight and does any think that this problem is recent? Certainly not!

This problem is due to the complete lack of over sight by the city managers and previous administrations and the current administration.

On but I did get an e-mail from the Neighborhoods Department telling me of the quality and friendly service. Quality? You have got to be kidding. Quality implies to me taking pride in ones work and not closing your eyes to problems. Friendly? Ms. Fredrick claimed that I was a city employee and I was through playing games with her and the department.

Had I been a city employee I would a lot better job that what I see day in and day out.

The city council has members that are on committees charged with responsibility of the departments involved but the stone cold silence from the city council chambers to any of my e-mails shows the level of the lack of concern.

Someone from the city needs to make an honest effort to address these situations and not just ignore them.

But hey, put some signs up and maybe nobody will notice the trashy conditions that exist while the Mayor of Toledo is off looking for the best and brightest the rest of us are left to live with conditions that are unacceptable but it's not on his agenda for this year, maybe next year?
