I`m just returning from an unforgettable trip to the Caribbean, where I spent a week under the golden sun of the Dominican Republic`s north coast. I ventured into a small town called Cabarete, a mecca for wind surfers because of its privileged bay.
even though most people who travel to the DR flock in herds to the east of the island ( Punta Cana, Bavaro beach ) there is a lot to see and enjoy in smaller towns such as Cabarete and Puerto Plata.
A search in the web will yield a lot of good results about these places, and there`s a sense of security and harmony in the DR not found in other similar destinations. Its people take great care of tourists, its main income source.
Cabarete is basically a long strip of beach lined up with discos, restaurants, surfing schools and clubs, I was joined by friends and hit places like Onno`s, Bambu, Lax and Casanova where there`s always a bunch of surfing girls from every other country in the world, a very cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Also there`s a huge casino with a disco on top of it, the Ocean Sands, the only place where drinks ( alcohol ) is served til next day. The other places close around 3:00 am due to local laws.
My last night I had a party for a friend`s b`day at Charlisangels, the famous exotic resort that features russian women in beach front villas. though the price was not cheap, we had the best time of our lives.
when leaving I felt I left part of me in that beautiful island, for all the nights at the discos, the morning walks in the beach and the excellent wind surfing in Cabarete Bay.
I hope to get back in December, all my friends who can travel by then can join me, just email me or leave a comment in this post.
Pete
