Normally, the DVD contains serve multiple subtitle streams, the different purposes. Almost all DVDs are subtitled in English, including foreign language films are not. Most also include subtitles, subtitles live differently. The subtitles are the dialogue of the film written on the bottom of the screen. The captions are subtitles, but also the audio signals that help people with hearing disabilities to enjoy the movie completely.

Often forced the films use English subtitles to show what a character is talking to a foreign language is. In some discs, the stories are hidden in a separate data stream, while in other mixed theyll with subtitles, but marks, so that the DVD player shows only the relevant subtitles.
Anyway, it's important that you get to tear up the appropriate subtitles for each movie. Otherwise you never know what you are saying and see Jabba Greedo in Star Wars, and a scene from long exposure to suck another language without the benefit of subtitles.

In practice, the first track English subtitles, which usually includes subtitles forced or voluntary, while the second subtitle track is one that contains subtitles.
