10,000 Fists Track 14: "Avarice"

A Radical Dreamers journey through despair: and the band known as Disturbed

Today we begin a lyrical odyssey into the band that is Disturbed. Somehow no matter how many cds I have of rock music, I always come back to the Disturbed, Linkin Park, and Rage Against the Machine cds. I figure we will go backwards with the cds even the tracks. The journey will begin with "Avarice" the final track on the 10,000 fist cd, and the last track will be "Voices" from The Sickness.

So lets get started with Track 14: "Avarice", From the 10,000 Fists Cd. Lyrics please...
Verse 1:
"Politics and evil
All one in the same
Satan hides behind a different name"

--This verse is for the most part self-explanatory. David is basically saying that Politcs are evil, and that the name of either is the same for both. Satan hides behind a different name, as it implies satan is evil. Evil is politics. Therefore a=b, b=c, a=c. Satan is politics.--

Chorus:
"Take these chains away
Free my hands from bondage
Can't explain away
Avarice will kill you in time"

--Avarice is just another word for Greed, just to clear things up a little more. In the chorus he is being asked to be freed from the bondage of the evil...or politics. Can't explain away is just that. Politics are all about explaining your way out of situation. And politicians are greedy from what david is saying here. And over time it will kill you. Greed is one of the 7 deadly sins.--

Verse 2:
"Violent upheaval
Cities drenched in flame
Wickedness we know we can contain"

--Still discussing politics. But now we are discussing what appears to be a revolution. A violent upheaval is a malcontent over-turning. The cities drenched in flames, or lies created by the politicians. But there is hope at the end. He states that it is evil we can defy. Whether we choose to or not is the question though--

Chorus

Refrain:
"Who will we murder now
See what we are becoming
An onyx veil that filters out the light
I'll savour this anger
My hate makes me stronger"

--He isn't saying murder as in the sense of physically killing someone. Its murder as in the betrayal of the lies. We are all becoming them. There is a cloud that blocks the sun. But David D. here is saying that he will swallow all the anger, hatred, etc because that fuels his determination and make a change--

Final Chorus:
"Free my hands from bondage
Take these chains away
Running from destruction
Avarice will kill you in time"

--Only difference is the 3rd line, "Running from destruction". Once we are all free from what restrains us, the evil must run to avoid dying out. And Greed will kill you in time.--
