Am doing a proj on tourism n came upon this term 'staged authenticity' by
MacCannell. think its very true.. in our modern soc today, it really is not enuf to BE a man, u need to ACT like one to be perceived as one. Juz like Jac, juz coz she seems sweet and submissive, many guys fall for her. But the thing is she isnt weak or needs protecting, she is independant, juz that its not enuf to be independant, u have to act it nowadays. so true... life has become a performance, we cant juz be woman, we must 'act' woman- whatever our societal norms define that as i.e. pink, long rebonded hair, submissive, sit with legs neatly crossed... authenticity has been redefined and recreated..even myself, i wonder how many times i subconsciously act in a certain way to convince pple of my identity as woman, chinese, student, independance etc...
