The celebratory silent night
of but what seems a blink ago
recedes religiously
as the truer silent night
of suffering, sacrificial love
of oozing self-emptying,
of undying -- wait -- no,
of dying passion
settles anew upon our faithful
ritual of remembrance.
Shadows will be present,
then be snuffed out.
Silencio will saturate every soul.
