Institutional religion is other worldly. Mystery religions promise liberation from rebirths in earthly life. Chistianity offers salvation in an afterlife along the principle: 'what does it profit man to gain the world and lose his soul?' It seems there is nothing to live for in life.
Albert Schweitzer opposed otherworldliness. He advanced man's right for a fuller and better life, lest the powerful take the opportunity to enslave and oppress his fellowmen.
Modern spirituality gives place for social regeneration and human capacity for growth and progress in life.
