China is today's showcase of of social development at a large scale for a nation of 1.9 billion citizens.
Since the 1978 reform and opening up, there have been great strides along social maturation. On the area of gender, the law guarantees education and more opportunities for women. Legislation outlaws arranged marriages and polygamy, while giving women the right to divorce.
Despite laws, however, women suffer sexual abuse, demotion, illegal dismissal, etc. Infanticide of female infants is high. Cultural change needs to accompany the brisk economic growth of the nation.
