Yea, I decided to post here just to speak my mind. It's for all of us right? Well, all I really wanna say is it's really shitty what happened to us. I miss it a lot and I didn't know not playing could have such a shitty effect on someone. It's like withdrawl. I dunno about anyone else, but I miss Saaa more and more every day. It's running through my head all the time. I'd love to finish the cd but I know that's probably not gonna happen. Alright, I'm done. I just had to let that out. We had some great times, and I just kinda miss it. Peace.

No, Saaa has not died.

I'm sure many of you think we're broken up, but we're not. We just are getting learned things so we can earn our degrees and get real jobs later in the future :-D

But seriously, between coming to college and missing home and everything in my world spinning upside down, I am Aaron and this is the world of Saaa. Or my end of Saaa, anyhow.

It's been over a year i believe since we've tracked for our full length cd. Heres a fact to live by: College takes away time for everything... and gives you all the free time in the world at the same time. Any college kid knows what i'm talking about.

Everything is tracked now, except for horns. Vocals came out great, I feel like I sang my ass off and we will be rockstars before the world will see it coming.

The plan: everybody comes back from college for December break. 1. Practice like madmen every single day and 2. Track Horns.

Then we wait to master the hell out of it. Then we decide how we are going to press the CDs.

For those of you who are fans of Something Worth Saving, you probably know Brett Walts. The kid has done a lot for me and he wants to start his own label, in which Saaa: The Hand You're Dealt will be the first cd release.

Everybody good/smart band who records a cd knows that in order to sell a cd, shows need to be booked like crazy. So the plan is the book a string of shows for when the CD is released so we can actually sell our years of sweat and blood to the world.

By the way, Jocko's studio "More Sound Studios" is nearly completed after thousands and thousands of dollars. It's going to be fantastic, and probably one of the nicest studios in this part of New York State.

If you would like to get ahold of Anybody in Saaa, here you go:

Alec Gilfillan - alec.gilfillan@houghton.edu

Aaron Spinks - aStaticSkyline@gmail.com

Dan Bernardi - dtb2@geneseo.edu

Josh Martin - jmartin0@twcny.rr.com

Pete Cantone - canton24@potsdam.edu

Kyle Heath - kaiotei@gmail.com

Nick Dusart - njdusart@syr.edu

There ya have it. We aren't dead, we're just floating along the expected path of Reality doing the college thing.

Drop me a line. Please. Talk to me about music, talk to me about life, talk to me about visiting Fredonia, talk to me about hows, talk to me about college life, etc. I'm interested.
IM: a Static Skyline

The CD will be out soon. I say that all the time but my idea of soon is within the 2005 year. Everything takes time with this sort of thing. Summer 2005 makes the most sense to me in order for us to play shows all around.

Josh and I have started a band with Brett and JD from Something Worth Saving and our good friend Jon Picarski as frontman. We are called For The Horizon, and we have many songs written, and we will be recording a demo or an EP to be released on Cut Through the Heart Records (http://www.ctthrecords.com/) . check out our un-updated website at www.forthehorizon.com. Think of us as a mix of Saosin/Thrice/Beloved but with a more original style than anything else.

Keep in Touch.

Hey, it feels like its been forever since I last updated but this time of year is absolutely crazy.

Played at the skatepark in Groton Saturday morning, only got to play four songs then it got rained out so we had yto stop. Had a bet going with some people who came to the show that I could say the F-word 50 times... no more, no less. Oya and "meow" 10 times. I would have had it but our set got reained out, we couldnt finish, so in our last song during world OP i threw a bunch in there and ended up with 39. So close....

We ate at the A & W near Cortland (one of the last in the US im guessing lol) and it was good. Played Old Maid with Nina and Tony and won both times.

I had to cancel our night-time show in Cheektowaga because Pete and Bernardi couldn't make it out there. Bummer, Sorry to Ian Wilkie for canceling... and sorry to the girls I met in Fredonia for showing up to see us when we didn't.

So tonight Alec finally goes into the studio to start tracking bass.

I may stop in and make sure everything is going smoothly, but bottom line is i have to type an 8 page essay tonight for PIG. Ouch.

Hopefully by tomorrow night, bass will be done and we will have drums bass and guitars finished, with only Horns and Vocals left to do. Vocals will be crazy... So much more stuff we are gonna do than ever before. Lots of Emo-screamo kind of stuff, mroe vocal harmonies thna ever before, maybe even a little crying. who knows wink.gif

Recording the CD and stressing over senior final essays is not a good mix, but there's only 17 days left. 31 till graduation. It's worth the work.

More in the week about recording... This is Aaron and this is the crazy world of Saaa.

musical chaos: RX Bandits and Finch - Message in a bottle

its 1:45pm on this rainy crappy tuesday (ill get over it) and its been a while since you guys have read whats goin on in the Saaa world.

For our full length to be titles "The Hand You're Dealt" possibly due to the metaphorical idea that everybody has their own lives to live, or more possibly due to our sensational love for gambling, we have guitars and drums completed. TH tones sound amazing, the clean tones sound great also. to hear a sample of what our clean tone sounds like check ut Big D and the Kids TAble website at http://www.bigdandthekidstable.com/framed.html and go to multimedia, and listen to any song form their Gypsy Hill EP. those clean tones kick some major ass.

Threw Kyle our guitar player a surprise 18th birthday party yesterday, it was fun and i got bombarded with guys with paintball guns and now i have welts. good stuff.

not sure of when we go in to the studio to lay down the bass tracks, but hopefully soon. It's spring break and Alec, Pete, and Bernardi are all out of town so i guess bass and horns can't go any time too soon.

Oya our site has been down (www.saaaiscool.com) for a while so for now check us out at www.purevolume.com/saaa and we will have shows listed on there and probably some news here and there when need be. You can also check out 3 of our older songs on there if you haven't already, the morep lays we get the better we look and the more the owners of purevolume.com notice our band.

Spring break is flying by, already tuesday but its rainy and crappy out.

Check out this awesome video of RX Bandits and Finch doing the police cover of Message in a Bottle over at www.bandvideos.tk ,it is awesome.

Lates.

musical chaos: Saaa - Hope Over Truth

Its 9:34 pm on this awesome warm night, and I just got home from the studio. Wow... what an awesome day.

Me and Kyle got so much stuff done, almost all of the dirty guitar sounds and overdubs etc. Let me jsut say that this CD is jsut going to be the coolest thing to come out, ever. Everything went so smooth and Kyle and I were flying through things nonstop with Mountain Dew flwoing strong in our systems (especially mine). Josh came and helped out w/ parts etc. Jocko's girlfriend Cody came and helped record us for a bit (Jocko is teaching her his godly ways in the studio) and hung out some too.

Did i mention that I'm going crazy over this thing? It is all flowing nicely.

uh, ya... time to find food

musical chaos: Northstar - two zero two

so here I am at 9:19pm sitting here. And after eating lots of food and drinking lots of soda, i only have a sentence or two of this essay done.

Today I worked until six, then came home and played my acoustic for a bit, trying to write stuff. I guess the Northstar song "two zero two" influenced me... what an amazing song. Serioulsy, everybody buy the new Northstar CD when it comes out, its totally sex.

Other than that, we're recording tommorow and tuesday night, then i'm going to have to schedule a lot more time in the studio because we still have a lot to do. Thursday most of Saaa leaves for Baltimore, MD with the Wind Ensemble to play some concerts (boring) and see some scenery (an aquarium and Gettisburg... just as boring). Back late saturday. then back to school.

Not much to say, but will keep up to date best I can tommorow and tuesday with recording. BTW does anybody know how i can get pictures on here for everyone to see? lemme know...

Good CDs I'vee been listening to recently:
Northstar - pollyanna
Dead Poetic - New Medicines
Goo Goo Dolls - Boy Named Goo
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets...

New season of Sopranos kicks ass. Oya and my sister rules cuz she got me another poster for college and it rules. She also got me a pink shirt that says "This is what a feminist looks like!" good stuff.

musical chaos: Strike Anywhere - Infrared

So here I am in school. Its third period study hall so i came down here to the library to get some work done, but ended up wanting to post on here instead.

So yesterday was a lot of fun but I now realize that I did not book us enough time to record. We simply have too much to do. I estimate now that we need at least a full week to finish guitars, a day or two for bass, and a shitload more for vocals and horns. Hot damn.

Got to Jocko's around four with my McDonalds #7 Crispy Chicken meal and a coke. Brett pulled up to Jocko's house right after I did, he came to hang out and grab his band Something Worth Saving's rough demo. Jocko forgot to do the rough mix of thier cd, but it was fun as hell to hang out with brett. He's a great guy.

Anyhow Kyle got there soon after from eating at the Chinese Buffet on Erie Blvd. (Lucky Bastard). I tracked maybe 1 or 2 guitar tracks for a song before Kyle started his tracking. We took a coffee break after that.

The whole thing just took way too long. Anthony showed up and the he and jocko reminisced about old Endive recording days there.

By the time 9 oclock rolled up we didnt have much done. We need to bust ass monday and Tuesday, and then I need to book us more time.

Time to get back to some work, more later in the week.

musical chaos: Dead Poetic - Taste The Red Hands

I just got home about 10 minutes ago and im tired as hell. It's 9:45 and my first long day of guitar tracking is done. I see at least another night for me to finish and for Kyle to start.

Kyle was with me and we grabbed some Arbys on Erie Blvd. Got to Jocko's around ten of 4pm. We sat in his "control room"... since thats what it is... and ate and talked and hung out. Alec showed up while we were eating. After eating we got ready, i re-strung my guitar and kyle tuned up etc. Josh showed up, then Pete.

What came next was the long gruiling process of getting the perfect guitar tone. This falls nothing short of:
What amp to use
What cab sounds best
What guitar sounds best
What preamp sounds best

Sounds simple but this took several upon several hours. By the time i started recording Everybody decided to leave and we knew we werent gonna get ot kyle tonight. Perfectionism is key, because by the time nine o'clok came around I had done 3 songs out of twelve. This is gonna take a lot longer than I first thought.

All in all it was fun but recording is by no means an easy art. This is what I'm going to college for, this is what my future is gonna be, so i better get used to the fact that it isn't easy.

3 songs done, and by done I mean I layed down the basic rythem track and a ton more needs to be done.

Childhood Envy
World OP
Don't Drink Drano

Tommorow is gonna be even harder, but I got caffiene to keep me sane and Poker to keep me happy. Yes, i capitalized Poker because it deserves nothing short of being capitalized.

that's it for now, more tommorow, gotta get some sleep.

musical chaos: Coheed and Cambria - Three Evils

It's 9:45 and i wrote a song in the infamous style i always do: get an idea and create a song out of it in the time period of about 5 minutes. weird.

I'm questioning the chance of getting this song on the full length. It would be the only acousitc song on the CD and it's pretty neat sounding... I actually wrote it in the tuning that the goo goo dolls used in writing "Name" which is a fantastic song. I've already got it finished, lyrics and all. I like it. I'll show Josh cuz hes the only one besides me who cares the most about this CD and what goes into it. It's a good song I swear, if it's recorded you will all hear it.

After school tommorow is our recording with Jocko. I said this before but im excited and anxious for it. This is years of us spilling our hearts into doing this... writing music... playing shows... trying like hell to get known... all into this 12 or 13 song CD. almost four years. this is part of my life.

Feedback is welcome, altho you lazy asses never leave any
