There was a Rugby Match yestarday. I got to play for like 25 minutes on the B team. It is funny because in Rugby I like to be a winger, but it seems everytime I play I get put into the Fullback position. It is funny because the same thing happened in HighSchool. I guess I was suppose to be a fullback or something. At anyrate I got little action (full backs rarely do unless they are really fast...which I am not). So hopefully this is not an on going trend, if it is oh well. I do not like the fullback position because of the following: If they have a breakaway it is only you to stop them. If you fail it is your fault. You stand around half the time waiting for something to happen and if it does it goes back to the breakaway point. That is really why I do not care to play the Fullback. That and Fullback's usually are good kickers, I am not that great of a kicker. But anyhow I better get going. --FrosT |

This morning I got this bright idea to go and clean off my deck (I live in an apartment building and I am on the first floor). I start cleaning out the cracks between the deck and sweeping up all the garbage into a pile so I can get the vacuum and clean it up easy. I get the vacuum and I am doing good on vacuuming everything up, well I spot my dryer vent just below the deck above mine. I decided I might as well vacuum that out while I am at it. As I start vacuuming out my dryer vent I spot a Wasp's nest in there with about 4 wasps around it. I accidently sucked the whole nest into my vacuum. After I did that about 3 wasps fell...it must be too cold out still for them...luckily. I stomped on those 3 before they knew what was up and as I stomped on those 3 a fourth one came flying down at me and then just fell. It was the weirdest thing to see. At anyrate I have my vacuum outside now with the wasps nest in it and I am waiting till nightfall before I remove the bag. Stupid wasps, I am not going to get stung today. Anyhow that was kinda funny, thought I would share it. That is my story of the Wasps Nest vs My Vacuum. --FrosT |

So I have not written a poem for a long time. At anyrate every year for our anniversary I always write Lyndsey a poem, well I completely spaced it for this one so I finally got time to write her a poem. Here it is: (this is our 3 year anniversary) From Two to Three From two to three I love to be the only man who can see the beauty of your soul. The only one who knows just how far the rabbit hole goes. Once was not enough twice was even better but three will be hard to beat for the heart that beats inside of me beats for only you. Three years have passed come and gone and yet we still live on through each other with our love only growing stronger. What once was one and two has become three and even more loving. For our love will never die. Yet I still wonder what four will be like. For if four is as good as one, two and three I will be filled with glee that we can be loving each other for all eternity. By James A Worthen Hope you enjoyed it (I have not shown her it yet) --FrosT |

Well I have a bad ink stain on my good work jeans. I need a new pair of jeans (I have actually had these for 3 years now) they have had silicone stains on them too. For those who do not know what Silicone is used for it is used to seal up holes on houses when you made a hole in it for cable etc (at least that is one of it's uses). At any rate I need a new pair of jeans. Now I am kinda pinky when it comes to Denim jeans. They cannot be too tight (I am too fat for that) so I need loose fit. It is hard now adays to find a decent pair of jeans from any stores. I have been looking for a week or 2 and have yet to find a decent pair of Levi's that are not holy, faded already or worn out. I am not sure what is with this trend of buying jeans that have holes in them or look like they are worn out? If you want to spend $50 on that shoot I have a ton of jeans that I would be more than willing to sell that are "authentic" worn out by real work. At any rate I hope JC Penneys has the type of jeans I want. I have been shopping at Penneys since I was 11. They have been good to me and always has my type of clothes for cheap. I can buy the stuff I wear for $11 a wack. Every now and then I go in there and find a pair of cargo pants I like for $5 a peice!! If that is the case I buy 3 pairs of them, that would last me for 6 years. I am actually still wearing jeans I bought when I was 15. They are kinda holy and worn out but they still work. I love those jeans. Lyndsey, my fiance is trying to get me to get rid of them but I cannot give in yet =) Anywho I do not know what type of jeans you like to wear but it is hard to find Loose fit Levis 34x33 in mens. Hope I find them soon. --FrosT |

I love having clean good tasting water...who doesn't? That is the major thing I miss about the mountains. Is that your water is pure straight from the tap. I invested in a Brita water filter recently. I just recieved it today at work (I shipped it to my work address because it is 30 miles to drive to FedEx to pick it up if I miss it) so I went home at lunch and attempted to install my new Brita Water Filter. Well stupidly I put it on without Plumbers Tape. So now I have to go buy some Plumbers Tape from Ace Hardware tonight so it does not leak, because as of right now it sprays all over the place. I also have it on too tight, so I need to attempt to loosen it. That is the other downside to this water filter. To loosen it takes a bit to do without breaking the Water Filter. The water filter I bought from Brita (actualy www.drugstore.com) is the new Aquaview water filter. It seems to work great if I can just get that plumbers tape and loosen it a little bit. I cannot wait. The water in Denver tastes just like dirt. Except the water from the tub does not. Weird but I just get my water out of the bath tub. I mean the water comes from the same place, so why not? I know some people may think that is sick but the water tastes better than the sink...100x better. Anyways once I get this water filter working and test it out I will write a decent review about (maybe if it works right). At anyrate I love Clean Good Water! I miss the mountains. One day I will live in them again. --FrosT |

Well as some of you may remember back in May/June I started the Body for Life program only to realize that this program was not for me. At least not at this time. This program is very intuitive and requires a lot of cooking and a lot of store traveling for fresh food. Although one day when I have a family I may try it again. I say when I have a family because it requires a lot of cooking and cooking for one person is tideous and to me pointless. I would rather cook good meals for my whole family. At least in that sense it is worth my time to cook. Anyhow I guess different techniques are for different people. My new technique is Rugby. I will try to eat a little healthier than I have been but I have found in the past, me being active is the best way for me to stay in shape and maintain my weight. It is when I get inactive I get big. I will see if my little trick still works. I have about 25 unwanted pounds I gained from my thyroid that would be nice to lose and have muscle mass replace it. At any rate Body for Life is ideal for a lot of people and if you are interested I would recommend www.bodyforlife.com and ww.eatingforlife.com --FrosT |

The Taco Bell Crunch Wrap Supreme, is a special that TacoBell had for a while here. I know some places still offer it but they are getting fewer. I cannot stand TacoBell at all, but this Crunch Wrap Supreme is well Supreme!! If you have not had the Crunch Wrap Supreme yet, I would suggest you try it. I gurantee you will not be disappointed (unles you are a weird-o). The flavor of a soft and hard taco without the mess of them. It is easy to hold and to eat. The Crunch Wrap Supreme is also very full filling to your stomach. If you finish it chances are you are not hungry! Anyhow thought I would shed some light on this wonderful item from TacoBell! Go try one while you still can! --FrosT |

What is the difference between Memory (RAM) and Harddisk space? As most people are not aware these are 2 completely different objects. Although Memory is usually taken as the "Hard Drive" of a computer it is not. When a computer nerd, such as myself, refers to Memory we are refering to the RAM of a computer. Not how many pictures you can store on your computer. I will attempt to explain the differences between these 2 similiar but completely different objects. Memory or RAM as some people like to call it refers to Random Access Memory. It is versatile, meaning anything kept in this memory is erased once power is taken from it. RAM holds vital program information that is only needed for the time the program is running. This also doubles as your resources for a program. In order for a program to run it has to be ran at the Binary level. Depending on how big the program is and what the program needs to do the more RAM the program needs. On average a program can use up anywhere from 1 MB of ram to 62 MB's (usually games only take up 62 MB's of ram). Since RAM is versatile when that program is through executing (closed) that memory is "freed" up. I put freed in quotes because in reality the memory is only freed up when the computer is restarted or turned off. The more memory you have the better off your computer system is. On average a computer running XP needs a minnimum of 256MB. I would recommend 512MB's at least. When you upgrade the memory on any computer the difference in speed, efficency, and reliable is amazing. You will notice the difference right away. Instead of it taking 5 minutes to open up Internet Explorer it takes 5 seconds. Not only that it can open IE and Adobe Photoshop at the same time with minnimal lag time. Memory is very important for how your computer performs. Harddisk space, also know as harddrive space also known as HDD is vital for storing pictures, word documents, music and anything else a computer can house. What many people do not understand is that you have more than plenty HDD space in your computer if that is all you use your computer for. The average HDD size is 40Gigs. which is roughly 80,000 pictures (640x480 res). That is alot of pictures! When your harddrive gets full the only thing that happens is you cannot put anything else on there until you clean some of it off or get an extra HDD. A HDD will only decrease your computers performance if it is done through USB instead of IDE or the HDD is old and outdated. A HDD is non-versatile unlike RAM or Memory. This means that when your computer is turned off chances are you will not lose any data stored on that HDD. This is great so you can store programs, documents and images without having a fear of losing those documents. HDD's are wonderful tools. Now that you know the difference between HDD's and RAM I expect you to know that when your comptuer is starting to act up, you probably need more ram, or a clean start. I will get into the clean start on another blog. Go tell your non-geeky friends that their computer problems have to do with "Memory" and see if they would delete pictures to free up memory. If they do you can so graciously correct them! --FrosT |

Under Armour Wear I have had a pair of Under Armour boxers for a few years now. I use them exclusively for Rugby. The reasoning for this is to prevent my family jewels from popping out and to offer them some protection. If you have ever seen Rugby shorts you will understand why. Under Armour is an awesome set of clothes that are comfortable and keep you cool when you are really hot. I would never play or practice Rugby without them. If I keep up with my Rugby Team that I have recently joined I will buy a new Under Armour T-Shirt to play with to add some more protection to me. If you have never tried Under Armour and do any type of sports I would suggest you try it. You will be amazed with the comfort and security it provides you. Under Armour...don't play Rugby without it! Under Armour is definatley worth its weight in gold. --FrosT |

How to keep your CD's Scratchless. I have heard many rumors of people having 400 CD's who play them regularly and keep them scratchless. Well I am not one of those people. I do not have the time to put on white gloves to pickup and play my CDs. Nor do I have the money to buy state of the art CD players that will not scratch my CDs. The question is How do I keep my CD's scratchless? The answer is rather simple. I have a technique. I never listen to the original CD. When I obtain a CD I will make a backup copy of it. Either just copy CD to CD or copy it to my Harddrive. Then I will listen to the copy until it gets too scratched up to listen to anymore. Once that time comes around, WOW I can just create a new burned CD! This way I can keep all my originals in MINT condition without every having a scratch on them. With a burned CD costing as low as a 1 cent a CD, it is cheap and effective. If you are not one of these high class people with white gloves and expensive CD players, making a copy of your CD is definatley the way to keep the original CD scratchless. This also doubles as a saftey feature. If your CD's all got stolen one day, wow you still have the original at home or even have all of your CD's on the computer. That theif did not get away with much unless they stole your computer also! By following these simple guide lines you too can keep your CDs in mint condition with no scratches on them cheap and easy! --FrosT |

BELKIN Wireless Keyboard and Mouse - F8E832BNDL from NewEgg.com At work they allowed me to buy a new Keyboard and Mouse, since it is year-end and they had some money to spend. If anybody knows a programmer they are very picky about their computers. I have to have the right keyboard and mouse or it does not work. Well I searched for 2 days and I finally found the best wireless keyboard and mouse combo there is. Belkin makes it. I decided to go with Belkin because I have never had a lick of trouble with them. I have bought a wireless router, a wireless PCMCIA network card and now this keyboard and mouse. All have worked great with no troubles or issues. The BELKIN Wireless Keyboard and Mouse - F8E832BNDL from NewEgg.com is affordable and it does not have that ergonomical crap! I love that. It has shortcut keys that are set distinctly apart for music etc. Which is nice and can be handy! Especially if you listen to music and have over 20,000 songs on your computer. I would recommend this Wireless Keyboard and Mouse combo from Belkin to anyone if they like the traditional keyboards. You cannot beat it at $45. Excellent price. Belkin seems to continually impress me with their technology. I wonder what I will buy from Belkin next. --FrosT |

The Opera 8 Web Browser is a new free web browser that can be found at Opera.com. I recently downloaded this new free web browser, frankly I was impressed and dissappointed. This new web browser is fast, slick and very flashy. It is quite a bit faster than Firefox 1.6. The only thing the Opera Browser is missing is total custimization of the top toolbars. I like to have only 1 or 2 lines for my tool bars. The top most line holds the File, Edit, View etc. with my address bar and back buttons. IE and Firefox both allow me to do this. For my own reasons I hate IE. So I stick with firefox. Opera does not allow you to switch the "Tab views" and the "Address" bar with each other. Nor does it allow combining the 2. Which to me is necessary and is why I will not use Opera. I am very disappoined in that because I would love the speeds it produces. But when you do not allow simple custimization such as that you are limiting yourself to certain users. Frankly I am not that type of a user. All in all if you like how IE is setup by default or FireFox, Opera is probably a better solution for you. If you prefer the total custimization I would say go with FireFox. For now I will stick with firefox, maybe someone will show me the right way to custimze Opera, or Opera will fix this inconvience. Anyhow Opera looks and runs wonderful, it is just not for me. --FrosT |

Cat 3 by 12:00 midnight Central time. Cat 4 by noon Eastern on the 21st. Landfall at Houston by Thursday noon.**IF** it doesn't hang a right and head for New Orleans, which REALLY is MY estimation. Just a guess. I'm wicked, aren't I? This is coming from the girl who LIKES earthquakes, and WANTS to take pictures of a tornado. Yeah...well.....so I'm wierd. But I **DO** know my weather. Mark my words, people...my estimates will probably be pretty doggone close. Hmm. |

Probably one of the worst things in the world is anticipation. It makes our mind wander and create up schemes that are pretty much wrong once they happen. The reason I am writing about anticipation is because of Rugby, as you can see in my other blog post. I am nervous and I still have more than 3 hours before I even head to practice. But this is not the first instance of my anticipation. Perhaps a bigger one was the Mind Eraser here in Colorado at Six Flags Elitch Gardens. I have a major fear of roller coasters. I remember my fiance and I waited in line for about an hour and that whole hour I was worrying about the ride. Even when I was on board the ride I was soo worried and freaked out, until it was actually done and I realized how moronic I was...I actually enjoyed the ride. The same thing happened a month ago at Waterworld. We went on this new ride called the "Revolution." Basically you drop about 2 stories and come into this toilet bowl and go around that a few times before the ride ends. I have a major fear of heights and this freaked me out. Once again after the ride was done I was like, man I was an idiot to be afraid of that stupid ride lol. The whole 2 hours wait I was all nervous and worrying. Anyhow I hope this same thing happens here. I am just worrying in anticipation for no reason at all, which I will soon to find out there was no reason to be nervous. Anyhow just thought I would express my views on anticipation, I hate it! --FrosT |

Well thanks to my wonderful fiance, Lyndsey, I maybe joining a Rugby team. Tonight is my first pratice for this team. Denver Highlanders is the team I will be practicing with tonight. I am excited and nervous. I have not played Rugby for about 3 years now. It has been a while. It is a great and fun sport. It will just be a challenge for me because I am the silent in the box type of guys. It is very hard for me to go into very social situations because I just do not know how to act. Maybe if I knew it would not be so hard. But I will basically be practicing with 20 guys I have never known before. Kinda scary and what not. If I want to get in shape and get rid of my fat this is what needs to happen. I just hope that I will want to go back for the spring season and during the off season I can keep my body built up with weight lifting and running. I hope, I am not too good at keeping at one thing. If you have never tried Rugby, I would suggest you try it. This sport is great to take out your frustrations of life on. If someone cheap shots ya, you just take a number and get even later. With the kleeting and the hitting that is what makes Rugby a gentleman sport =) --FrosT |

Be Cool (2005) is about a movie producer who wants to get into the music business. This comedy has many well known actors and actresses in it such as: John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Cedric the Entertainer, Andre 3000 and the Rock, plus many more. In this comedy John is trying to get a young singer a music career, but the only challenge is that she is under an existing contract. Personally this movie was alright. It had its funny parts and it down parts. I would recommend it for a "different" laugh. The movie is just different. That is one of it's appealing natures. This is probably the best movie The Rock has ever done succesfully. All of his movies suck because he played the wrong parts. This movie gives him the part he was born to play, a queer body gaurd. Although with John Travolta and Uma Thurman, who also starred together in Pulp Fiction directed by Quentin Tarantino, the movie is barely bareable to watch. One good thing about the movie is that they kind of do spoofs but not really. There is one seen where Uma and John are dancing that reminds, hint reminds, you of Pulp Fiction. Which they are pretty famous for doing their dance scene in Pulp Fiction. So if you are up for a few laughs and a cheesy story line, definately see Be Cool. But either way you are not missing anything not seeing this movie. --FrosT |

Buy your gasoline NOW, while the prices are back down, because Rita is headed for the Gulf of Mexico, in the path of Katrina. There are approx. 175 drilling rigs in the gulf, along with many many refineries in Texas that Katrina didn't get on her pass through. The refineries in Louisiana are still down. The port of New Orleans, a MAJOR worldwide shipping port, has already been taken down. What does that mean to YOU, the consumer? well, it means that railways, already expensive to ship by, are already overbooked; trucking is pricey, and now busier than a one armed man in boxing match. The trucking industry (and I speak from experience, wife of a trucker) already supports ALL of the other shipping industries. It carries EVERYTHING you buy, whether out of PORT cities, RAILWAYS, or domestic manufacturing. If you got it, a truck brought it, TRUST ME. Gas in my hometown (Greenville, Illinois) went back down about 25 cents after Katrina passed, and the "recovery" operations began. But now, we have rita barreling into the Gulf, not crossing much land in Florida, therefore, able to gather steam in the warm Gulf waters, much like her sister Katrina did. The estimated path (courtesy of the National Weather Service) is anywhere from western Mississippi to the Texas shores, just west of Galveston. Hey Galveston, remember YOUR past history with hurricanes? Well, gasoline just went back up $4.00 a barrel (may not mean much to you, but my hubby ALSO worked in the oilfields for years, as did my grandfather, so we KNOW what that means!). You'd better fill up now, before Rita makes landfall. The prices will begin going up, by my estimate, by tomorrow, in anticipation of Rita's landfall, even though she's not expected to get there till Friday. but the rigs are all in the Gulf, so she will affect the oil industry way sooner than one migh expect! As a weather buff, I find all this fascinating. (I live in Tornado Alley, formerly lived in California with earthquakes and wildfires...equally fascinating). I am glad I don't live in the hurricane range, and I have already given to the Red Cross, and am currently helping to connect separated families; but I have to say, Rita could very well be a repeat of Katrina. Let me just add this-- I think, in spite of all his "positive attitude", that New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin is an idiot. why is he encouraging people to come back to N.O.?? Especially with yet another possible Category 3 bearing down on the Gulf? REBUILD the city, in the heart of the hurricane season?? What, is this guy FOR REAL??? Geez, I just don't get it. Now is not the time!! Of all the government boobs to be involved in this, I think he's the worst. Well, that's MY say on the current hurricane situation. Let's just watch and see what pans out in the next few days.... |
|
I am very impressed with the governor of Mississippi, and with the people of Mississippi. They are not wallowing in their despair, wailing about what the federal government has not done for them. They are actually helping one another, trying to clean up and rebuild, and actually looking forward to getting it all done. They are moving on. That is the way it ought to be after a disaster of this magnitude: people coming together, like normal Americans, and helping one another to move on with their lives. Very impressive, Mississippi. Kudos. |

It IRRITATES me to no end!!!! I very often see a very photographic moment, and the moment is gone. And if I don't have my camera with me, the moment is lost forever. I wish I could make a career out of this. But most of all, I wish I could remember to leave my camera in my bag when I leave the house. Even if I just go to the school or the store. Sheesh!!!!! |

Well, I have finally had a minute to write. This business with the hurricane has me worn out. I cannot keep away from the news of it. but I found a way to try and help. I have been helping families and loved ones to get in contact with one another, and searching for info via the Internet. I do wonder what in the world tropical storm Ophelia is doing just hanging around off the coast of Florida...it's almost as if she is just waiting to strike, making her choice, thinking about where to go. Even the meteorologists can't seem to agree on where Ophelia might go...and all the while, Ophelia hovers over the water, gathering stregth, because that's what hurricanes do. As long as they're over the water, they can build up their power. Glad I don't live there. But, then again, we may have a tornado next spring. Oh, well. Katrina is interesting in that it is a historical anomaly. Katrina has far surpassed the damage, strength, and loss of life and property that Andrew, Camille, and even the Galveston episode of a hundred years ago all produced. It is a meteorologist's dream and a citizen's nightmare. It is a photographer's treasure chest and a heart's breaking point. It is a complete tragedy, the likes of which I cannot seem to find in the annals of world history. Except, perhaps, for the annhilation of the Jews in WWII. But as far as natural disasters go, this seems to be unprecedented. Very interesting to those of us with a journalistic and photograhic bent. But very distressing for those who are living through it...which in turn, breaks my heart. I want to help them all, and take them all in. On another note, much lighter...we have acquired a pony that my daughter is in love with. She was cheap, and I can see why. She has mastitis, which to be honest, is not really an expensive illness to deal with. But nobody really wanted to deal with it, and she has been passed around a bit. (Typical for me...I seem to be the halfway house for everything with a problem. I should be a vet tech by now.) Zoe, as she is known, is a dream of a pony. She is very gentle, and quite cooperative, which is a great thing, considering she is under the weather. She is cooperating well with her therapy. Even the antibiotic that I had to buy wasn't SO pricey, and the vet gave it to me upon my own assessment of the horse. I am so happy to see all my research and knowledge of equines is still building, and comes in handy. But I really wish I would quit choosing all the hard cases that nobody wants! I am SUCH a sucker. I think that Zoe will be very happy here with us, though. Her name means "life", and she will indeed have a new life living with us. All my animals don't do too badly! Well, I gotta go. Doctoring horses is way more fun to me than cleaning the bathroom, but the shower looks atrocious, and the dishes need to be done, so.... |
