My 1st trip to China 21 Jan 2005

I've forgotten that today is a public holiday in Singapore. Was wondering why there are so few people online in MSN, & particularly nobody in my office is online when I logged on at 9am.
God answers prayers. Guess what? I'm coming home today as initially scheduled. I asked that God will bring me back by next Friday, & I'm brought back as initially scheduled. Apparently, one of my boss' business associate from Hong Kong didn't come to Zhu Hai, & my boss only found out when he went to pick him up today. He had wanted me to stay back to help him in some drawings (which is somehow linked to this HK person). However, as the business associate would not be coming until next Friday, there wasn't much point in me staying.
Everything was in a rush then. I went back to the hostel to pack my stuff before going to site to finish up on some testing. I had wanted to get a few stuff before coming back, but since it's so hasty, I didn't had time to shop. We (boss & myself) rushed to Macau after lunch, & from there, boarded the ferry to Hong Kong. Our plan was to board the direct ferry to HK airport, but apparently, as the ferry goes straight to the restricted area of the airport, we were supposed to have our boarding pass already. Usually, the boarding pass is issued at the check-in counter at the airport, which made us wonder how we were supposed to have it on us at Macau...
So everything was a rush. We boarded the ferry to HK, took a cab to the airport express, & boarded the train to the airport. We only had time to have some light snacks at the airport before boarding.
God answers prayers. My previous mentor just reminded me that everything starts with prayer. The church in Gold Coast was started with weekly prayer walks at a university campus few years back, & now it is growing. Pray that Jesus will touch the lives of the Chinese, & that the gospel will be known to the Chinese.
Remember that in my previous posting, I wrote about the immorality amongst the Chinese? The truth is, there are many men keeping mistresses, foreign & local men. And some of them have more than one. Also, it is not as if that the girls don't know "their men" are married. Worst, the person I least expected also has a mistress there. Do pray against the yoke, the bondages that will hinder them to know God.
So this ends my 1st trip to China. It has been a fruitful trip, & I had learnt a lot over there. I will be moving all my postings to http://soonatchina.blogspot.com since I would be able to access them now.

Mood: secure
I woke up today with my head spinning and a slight sore throat. It was not the worst headache I've had, but it still felt terrible. Worst still, I was on site almost the whole day. Took some panadol before leaving the office at around 5pm, and will be taking another before I sleep. God will heal me & is doing the work even as I write. In fact, I'm feeling much better. My shepherd also prayed for me (back in Singapore) while I was having dinner.
I still don't know when I will be getting back. My boss will let me know probably tomorrow. Please pray that I will be back by next Friday so I won't miss the wedding.

The day is warmer today. For once, I didn't feel like I'm freezing when I was outdoors. Of course, I was still wearing 4-layers of clothing.
Managed to get some files sent over from Singapore via MSN. This is a great tool to have. I must try to convince the IT department from Church Office to install one for themselves. You'll never know when you'll need it & how useful it can be.
I managed to translate a document from Chinese to English with the help of an online translation tool. However, due to the different sentence structure, there was some slight difficulty in understanding the generated text fully. I had to ask my boss' brother to read certain sentence before I know what was the text trying to say.
Seems like I won't be coming back on the 21th. I was actually looking forward to coming back. Looks like I'll be paying a visit to Macau for a stamp on my passport this Saturday; I'm only allowed to stay for 14 days here. I don't know when exactly I will be back. Want to be back latest at least for Daniel & Melia's wedding. Tomorrow I will have to ask my boss.

The pastime of the locals here is mahjong. My colleagues have been playing in the hostel almost everyday, and I've noticed other people playing mahjong in other places as well.
There is still some sort of language gap with my Chinese colleagues. I was able to get by with speaking mandarin in Singapore because I could substitute with a little English. Here, my collegues do not understand English even a little. The Cantonese accent is different from what I'm used to hearing. Fortunately, their mandarin isn't like the Beijing type of accent. There's a lot of improvement that I need on my mandarin. The goal is to increase in vocabulary and to be able to read.

Sunday. It's a day of rest. Everyone woke up late. I had wanted to wake up earlier & spend sometime in prayer, but with such weather, & a late night yesterday, it seemed almost impossible. The temptation of lazing on the bed is very great.
I spent most of the day in the hostel, only going out for lunch & dinner. Lunch & dinner was at the same restaurant which we usually go to for dinner. Spend most of the day on reading & napping. Didn't have anything much to do, & since most of the people from church aren't on msn on Sunday, I didn't bothered to log on until later during the day. My colleagues in the house & their gfs spend most of the day watching TV.
Tomorrow boss will be coming back. Also, this will be the start of a new week, & also my last week here before going back home.
