The Socorro Incident (1964) - Reliable witnesses or a hoax to generate tourism? No Tom this week as he was unwell, sore throat and a voice sounding like a strangled cat (his words - don't go calling the RSPCA.....!!). Alien topic was the Scorro Incident from 1964, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonnie_Zamora Def Leppard started the show in advance of their new album release "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge" on May 4th, but available for download already..... The question was - ****************************************************************************** "What are your thoughts on the Socorro Incident?" This seemed to cause some confusion over what the question was, but once that was clarified, opinion ranged from plausibility because of the witness reliability to suggestions that it resulted from secret testing of the lunar module prior to the Apollo moon landing missions. ****************************************************************************** A second track from the featured artist - Prevalence - and the second hour was wrapped up seemingly quicker than the first..... "Get well soon Tom" was the message from our very loyal Misty Blue...... A definite "punk" flavour to the selected tracks, but then we like that...... Here’s the full playlist…… 1st May 2008 Def Leppard - When The Walls Come Tumbling Down Def Leppard - Let's Get Rocked Kiss - Dtroit Rock City Prevalence - Everybody Wants To Rule The World Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart (live) The Ruts - Babylon's Burning (original recording) Gypsy Pistoleros - Un Hombre, Sin Rostro Pistolero Graham Bonnet - Night Games Green Day - Walking Contradiction Aerosmith - Livin' On The Edge Endeverafter - Baby Baby Baby Dean Lickyer - Never Let You Go Guns 'n' Roses - Paradise City Prevalence - Flow Dio - Mystery Action City Blackout - Down In Flames Billy Idol - Mony Mony MSG - Attack Of The Mad Axeman David Bowie - Rock 'n' Roll Suicide ROCKIN’!!!! George Adamski & The Mojave Desert (1952) " Alien Envoy or Fantasist? Tom was back! Despite the technical difficulties behind the scenes we managed to cobble together a seemingly pleasing concoction of tracks (based upon one listener's feedback.....). Tom introduced the question about aliens visiting the Mojave Desert in 1952, and we shamelessly requested "free stuff" from any musicians seeking radio air play. The first hour always seems to pick up speed as we approach 11 o'clock, and we really need a co-ordinated campaign to get us on from 9pm... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Adamski Hopefully next week we can showcase the new Def Leppard album - "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge"; hear from Voodoo Six (http://www.voodoosix.com)who we spoke to ahead of their recent performance in Kettering (2/5) and enjoy the additional bonus of a conversation with Blaze Bayley the former front man of Iron Maiden..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaze_Bayley The question was - ****************************************************************************** "What are your opinions on the 1952 Mojave Desert Alien Encounters?" The alien debate created good responses with lots of interesting web links being sent to us with videos and documentation relating to UFOs. Was George Adamski some kind of wacko or has that been the impression created to discredit his claims? Here's one link to follow that reports this and other incidents " http://www.mysteriousreality.com/UFO/ufo_history.asp, ....and here are a selection of the answers…. Kraygh - I wasn't there. Misty Blue - I think Adamski and his friends were dabbling with some serious gear. C'mon red shoes! Dead give away. Did you know that Ronald Reagan was a big UFO fan? That put the tin hat on it for me. Radar Love -That takes me back. Damned if I can remember where. E-mails? I'm Misty I'm supposed to stalk you, not the other way round.wireddad - Very interesting. http://www.thewatcherfiles.com/cooper/secret_government.htm Bear S - Isn't that when the USA started building the wall. Mexicans and aliens and small farm animals. Kev C - I believe!! and Bubba was one of the exchange students... ****************************************************************************** Rich Szerman contacted us just before 11 asking if we could mention his music and have a chat with him on air. Once we have received some further details we will be able to do that. Another good example of how unsigned bands and artists can use different media outlets to get their work promoted, and (unsigned) Subsonic’s rather left field rendition of “That’s The Way I Like It” (a cover of KC and The Sunshine Band) indicates some of the fantastic interpretation of musical art that is all too rarely heard on UK radio. Again the time passed very quickly but we appreciate all contributions (Misty gets it!!) to the premier Rock show in South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire.... Here’s the full playlist…… 8th May 2008 Def Leppard - Hysteria Def Leppard " Billy’s Got A Gun ZZ Top - Tush Subsonic - That's The Way I Like It Tom Petty - Free Fallin' Gary Moore - Military Man Jo Jo Gunne - Run Run Run Golden Earring - Radar Love CCS - Whole Lotta Love Rush - The Spirit Of Radio David Bowie - Wild Is The Wind United Enemies - Dead Boy Gypsy Pistoleros - Un Hombre, Sin Rostro, Pistolero Thin Lizzy - Showdown Guns 'n' Roses - Ain't It Fun Joe Bonamasa - Asking Around For You Bon Jovi - Captain Crash And The Beauty Queen From Mars Attack - 30 Seconds To Mars Sammy Hagar - This Planet's On Fire (Burn In Hell) Robin George - Heartline Ozzy Osbourne - Dreamer ROCKIN’!!!! Time Travel - What would you do given the choice? One of our occasional visitors, Bryony, joined us again this week. She makes fudge and bribed us unashamedly to come back to HFM for the show. Finally I had managed to get hold of the both the recently released Def Leppard album “Songs From The Sparkle Lounge” and also the latest Whitesnake offering “Good To Be Bad”. I have been attempting to blag a press pass for the NEC show later on in the summer as yet to no avail. Also the editing of the discussion with band members from Voodoo Six http://www.voodoosix.com had been completed so as promised we were able to broadcast conversations without any potential risk of future litigation…… Next week will be the turn of Blaze Bayley (ex of Iron Maiden) who I had caught up with at the same event http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaze_Bayley The question was - ****************************************************************************** "If You Could Travel Through Time Would you Return To The Past As You Are Now Or As You Were Then (and Why)?" Once again this was a topic to stimulate the imagination given the success of current TV series involving time travellers e.g Doctor Who, Heroes (Hiro’s ability to freeze time), and the potential that John Titor (web users will be familiar with this story) http://www.johntitor.com had come back to the early 21st century in a working time machine from 2036….. SAM - I would go back three thousand years and finish the job I started at Stonehenge. Kev - I'd like to go back as I am now, just to see if everything really was as good as what I thought it was. It would be good to be able to go back, but I wouldn't like to change anything. filya puta oops 25 - What proof have we that Time is moving forward? Just because we measure time i.e. the Clock, how can we be sure? vis - I would go back in time as I was then only if I could have the brain I have today and know what is going to happen. That way I could stop the child and the teenager I was from doing some really stupid things.. Ellis - SAM...if you hadn't done such a crap job in the first place you wouldn't have had to go back.....bloody cowboy!!! contrarycrow - Interesting question! I think if I could travel in time, I'd be the "me" I'll be in 5 years travelling back to visit the "me" as I was as a teenager to say "hang in there, kiddo!" The "me" now is pretty cool but I'd like to think I'll have just a little more knowledge and wisdom in 5 years or so. I was warped by various sci fi books and movies at an early age and I love Doctor Who! beyond therapy - Oh yes I would, I would be dressed exactly as I am now and walk into the newsagents and hand over my winning lotto ticket. Oh and the Euromillions ticket as well. 15 mill, not bad eh !!!!!! dogsbody - Thanks to Dr Who my brother made my life a misery back in the 60's, picture it, big brother with plunger - the stick against his head screaming 'exterminate, exterminate...to a 5 year old'...thank God we had a staircase.... I was saved. (Daleks can't climb stairs) I think I need therapy. anaise - hmmmm.........as I am then or now? Don't get it. But if this is what I think you are asking, probably as I am now. I would have more intelligence to offer although not revealed. Misty Blue - I'd go as I was then. I was hawter then, only just. I do not think time travel is possible because if it were we'd be aware of people from the future coming back to the present. So I guess they never cracked it. kerrykittiecat - I would have the face and body I had as a 19 year old but the ability to sniff bull sh*t that I have today... and I'd have kept all my bad 80's clothes and sold them on e-bay as 'vintage'!!! steves95008 - Honestly, I would have a blast going back as I am now and looking at me to see how I was compared to what I though I was. I guess all the insecurity of youth would be there. Then, I would have a talk with me and let him know there is a lot of cool stuff that is going to happen in the future and don't worry about what people think you. Or did I do that already to get me where I am now? Niamh - I would go back to the first major turning points in my life, and change what I'd like to change, but I'd be careful about it. I don't like thinking about things like that though because then it just makes me feel sad about all the things I won't be able to do - like bend time. Unless I have some random Hiro Nakamura alter-ego inside me, which wouldn't be too bad... Yatta! ****************************************************************************** In between times we were fiddling around with how to get a studio webcam operating in advance of HFM’s 24 Hour Radio Marathon - see http://www.harboroughfm.co.uk - the system works in principle although there are a few additional quirks to iron out, such as a static IP link. We will continue to exercise our genius….. The contributions from unsigned bands keeps expanding, we promise we will cater for as many as we can given our limited time - please be patient - we value your input, and this week appreciated the tracks from “Versus The Nothing” and “Of the I”. The premier Rock show in South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire continues to roll.... Here’s the full playlist…… 15th May 2008 Def Leppard - Photograph Def Leppard - Go Nickelback - Photograph ZZ Top - Mexican Blackbird MSG - Bijou Pleasurette Voodoo Six - Faith Versus The Nothing - Let It All Come Down Green Day - Hitchin’ A Ride The Rasoodocks - Secret Song Mansun - Wide Open Space Thin Lizzy - Renegade Whitesnake - Best Years Of The I - Between Being and Ego Voodoo Six - One More Day Blaze Bayley - Born As A Stranger Voodoo Six - Shine At The Sun The Who - Baba O’Reilly ROCKIN’!!!! Ten Reasons to Hate Mobile Phone Companies? This week we decided to ask why people may or may not be annoyed by mobile phone companies - there was a degree of angst and anger but some balance too, where would we be without them? In advance of HFM’s 24 Hour Radio Marathon, singer songwriter Billy Bragg has agreed to talk to us between 9 and 10pm on the Saturday evening 24th May. In addition to that he also donated the single he helped produce, “We Laughed” - as part of the “Rosetta Life/Requiem” project - which is being auctioned on e-bay to assist the fund raising for Cancer Research UK. More details on it! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120263829813 To donate on-line to the Radio Marathon fund follow this link " http://www.justgiving.com/hfm-24hour-radiothon Blaze Bayley had been very amiable when we spoke at Sawyers in Kettering on May 2nd - the transformation for the performance was memorable! Part 2 carried that conversation and a couple of his live tracks. http://www.planetblaze.com - The Man Who Would Not Die. The question was - ****************************************************************************** "Can You Give Us Ten Reasons To Hate Mobile Phone Companies?" Let’s be honest, we all like to complain and mobile phones are an easy thing to moan about. From the price of calls, length of contracts, poor service, & social issues (e.g. happy slapping), to a lack of privacy and freedom (inbuilt tracking). But is it all bad, bad, bad……? These are the responses…. taxed til i die - They charge too much (x10). Stormy Sanchez - They discriminate against people who pay as you go, preferring to give better prices to contract holders.. Fanny Haddock - 1.The "jingles" on their automated service; 2."press 1 for mars, 2 to speak to the Dalai Lama"; 3. "To check your balance press 5 - Sorry we do not have that information available"; 4. Cost of calls to 0800 numbers!; 5. Cost of calls To & from Europe; 6. Cost of Mobile Internet in Europe; 7. "May I call you by your first name"... (no you fcking may not); 8. "is there anything else I can help you with today".... Er, yes please, come round and scrub my patio down and take the dogs for a walk will you; 9. "are you sure you want to cancel your 2nd number"; 10. New Years Eve delivery delays.? Gorilla good good Gorilla - Their products suck; They own politicians; They stifle progress; They're a cartel; They're going to make you pay for Tetris; They just can't behave themselves; They illegally spy on you; They have annoying commercials; They hate you/us; Their contracts are nonsense; They charge crazy fees (for services you didn't ask for); They lock handsets; They cripple their products. michael w - and yet everybody has one, so they can't all be that bad. What would you all do without a mobile I wonder?. Everyone has the choice to have a mobile phone. If you think that you’re being ripped off don't get one. All of which sort of bears out the original premise that we are never happy unless we are complaining, or that the majority of us may not care so long as we can play with a gadget. And as Michael suggested, if we are so bothered by it " Opt Out!! ****************************************************************************** All set for the 24 Hour Radio Marathon on 24th/25th May? Possibly not! - see http://www.harboroughfm.co.uk. The studio Web Cam works!! To view what chaos is occurring (either for the Marathon or future SRD shows) the link to look at is http://hfm.dynalias.net:8081 Thanks to those who tested and confirmed the ability to see our pretty faces ….. This weeks featured unsigned bands had tracks from “Versus The Nothing” and “Of the I”, The Rationales and Musetta. All distinctive and different from each other but well worth further investigation on MySpace from where they have contacted us. The premier Rock show in South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire continues to roll.... Here’s the full playlist…… 22nd May 2008 Def Leppard - White Lightning Def Leppard - Nine Lives Of The I - Modern Equivalent Whitesnake - Summer Rain Tesla - Thank You The Rationales - Far Away Little Angels - She’s A Little Angel Joe Bonamassa - Dirt In My Pocket Cinderella - Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘til It’s Gone Rossetta Life (featuring Billy Bragg) - We Laughed Versus The Nothing - Just Wait Blaze Bayley - The Launch (live) Blaze Bayley - Stare At The Sun (live) Rainbow - Since You’ve Been Gone Musetta - Another Glimpse Of Sun H.I.M. - Poison Girl Oasis - Hello ROCKIN’!!!! Telekinesis/Psychokinesis - Moving objects just by thinking about them…? After involvement with the Radio Marathon over the previous weekend we have a number of issues that need to be worked through. Firstly the web cam facility will not be going ahead, and secondly the chance to catch up on shows you may have missed has also been vetoed. Is this down to a dispute regarding Tom’s “image rights” with his agents expressing concern about the number of charitable events he was contracted to do in each quarter……? Perhaps we had better not stray into sensitive territory….. Our thanks go to all who participated and contributed to HFM’s 24 Hour Radio Marathon, over the weekend of 24th and 25th May. There are too many to mention individually, but they know who they are. Our sincere thanks to one and all! To date over £2000 has been raised with even more to come. You can still contribute too if you have not already. To donate on-line to the Radio Marathon fund follow this link " http://www.justgiving.com/hfm-24hour-radiothon So, telekinesis, what’s that all about? In the 2004 U.S. Air Force-sponsored research report Teleportation Physics Study, the physicist-author Eric Davis, PhD, described the classification of PK and TK by writing that "telekinesis is a form of PK." Psychokinesis, then, is the general term that can be used to describe a variety of complex mental force phenomena (including object movement) and telekinesis is used to refer only to the movement of objects, however tiny (a grain of salt or air molecules to create wind) or large (an automobile, building, or bridge). Hypothetically, a person could have very profound telekinetic ability, but not be able to produce any of the additional effects found in psychokinesis, such as softening the metal of a spoon to allow its bending with minimal physical force. Conversely, someone who has succeeded in psychokinetically softening metal once or a number of times may exhibit no telekinetic ability to move objects. More at Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychokinesis The question was - ****************************************************************************** "If you had Telekinesis, what would you move and why?" A superpower would be useful wouldn’t it? If you believe in telekinesis please raise my hand…... Were the answers a reflection on the state of the nation….? Here are a selection…. Jean D - All the poxy politicians to a remote island, and Jeremy Clarkson into No.10. Why? We deserve something better than now. Viper the Violated - HA! now ya asking..... I would mooooooooooove that bull near me. Widget Maker - Your SUV out of my way. So I can get there faster.. Michelle S. - the tv remote control so i don't have to wriggle out from under the laptop when trying to reach it..... lol LBJ - I'd like to move that lump out of 10 downing street as he hasn't got the hint yet "For God's sake go!". Celtic Saint - I would move Cornwall 1000 miles south of England, and bask in the sunshine of paradise. Interestingly no-one has suggested that we use a special power for the common good (aside from the political arguments….) which perhaps suggests that we are not ready for anything different to our current situation. ****************************************************************************** This weeks show had something of a PUNK flavour (again) as we enjoy that sort of thing and it is always a nice fall back when we have been short of “prep” time. We have not forgotten those unsigned bands who have contacted us, and will be seeking to provide ongoing coverage as the summer goes on. And don't forget to shop early for Christmas as the prices are going up and stocks won't be available in December..... The premier Rock show in South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire continues to roll.... Here’s the full playlist…… 29th May 2008 Def Leppard - Lady Strange Def Leppard - C’mon, C’mon Diablo Swing Orchestra - Balrog Boogie Whitesnake - All I Want, All I Need Generation X - Wild Youth Slade - My Oh My The Vibrators - London Girls Golden Earring - Radar Love Led Zeppelin - Black Dog X Ray Specs - I Am A Cliche Meat Loaf - Alive Roger Daltrey - Free Me UFO - Only You Can Rock Me (live) The Adverts - Bored Teenagers Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction - Prime Mover Television Personalities - Where’s Bill Grundy Now Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant The Stiffs - Goodbye My Love Queen - We Will Rock You Galahad - Empires Never Last once again, ROCKIN’!!!! For those of you wishing to download what you may have missed, sadly this is no longer an option allegedly due to licensing and copyright detail regarding internet content and brand management - I blame Tom’s “image rights”. As a consequence you will just have to listen in on Thursdays 22.00 GMT - “On Line, On Air, and Rockin’ Your Block Off with 102.3 HFM…….” Feel free to pass feedback direct to the award winning HFM website at http://www.harboroughfm.co.uk where you can find our brief details under “Presenters” then “Ian and Tom”.
