Ten Reasons to Hate Mobile Phone Companies?
This week we decided to ask why people may or may not be annoyed by mobile phone companies - there was a degree of angst and anger but some balance too, where would we be without them?
In advance of HFM’s 24 Hour Radio Marathon, singer songwriter Billy Bragg has agreed to talk to us between 9 and 10pm on the Saturday evening 24th May.
In addition to that he also donated the single he helped produce, “We Laughed” - as part of the “Rosetta Life/Requiem” project - which is being auctioned on e-bay to assist the fund raising for Cancer Research UK.

Let’s be honest, we all like to complain and mobile phones are an easy thing to moan about. From the price of calls, length of contracts, poor service, & social issues (e.g. happy slapping), to a lack of privacy and freedom (inbuilt tracking).
But is it all bad, bad, bad……? These are the responses….
taxed til i die - They charge too much (x10).
Stormy Sanchez - They discriminate against people who pay as you go, preferring to give better prices to contract holders..
Fanny Haddock - 1.The "jingles" on their automated service; 2."press 1 for mars, 2 to speak to the Dalai Lama"; 3. "To check your balance press 5 - Sorry we do not have that information available"; 4. Cost of calls to 0800 numbers!; 5. Cost of calls To & from Europe; 6. Cost of Mobile Internet in Europe; 7. "May I call you by your first name"... (no you fcking may not); 8. "is there anything else I can help you with today".... Er, yes please, come round and scrub my patio down and take the dogs for a walk will you; 9. "are you sure you want to cancel your 2nd number"; 10. New Years Eve delivery delays.?
Gorilla good good Gorilla - Their products suck; They own politicians; They stifle progress; They're a cartel; They're going to make you pay for Tetris; They just can't behave themselves; They illegally spy on you; They have annoying commercials; They hate you/us; Their contracts are nonsense; They charge crazy fees (for services you didn't ask for); They lock handsets; They cripple their products.
michael w - and yet everybody has one, so they can't all be that bad. What would you all do without a mobile I wonder?. Everyone has the choice to have a mobile phone. If you think that you’re being ripped off don't get one.
All of which sort of bears out the original premise that we are never happy unless we are complaining, or that the majority of us may not care so long as we can play with a gadget. And as Michael suggested, if we are so bothered by it – Opt Out!!
