The Television Conspiracy - Do you control it, or does it control you?

After the thought of cameras inside your television last week, we came across this topic….

Okay, it all starts off in 1907: Campbell Swinton and Boris Rosing both develop electronic scanning methods of reproducing images.
14 years later, Vladimir Zworykin patents a TV camera tube based on Campbell Swinton's and Boris Rosing’s ideas. It becomes the benchmark of all future televisions from then on.
Also during the 1900’s Knight Dunlap, an American professor of psychology, flashed an "imperceptible shadow" to subjects while showing them a Mueller-Lyer illusion containing two lines with pointed arrows at their ends which create an illusion of different lengths.
Dunlap claimed that the shadow influenced his subjects subliminally in their judgment of the lengths of the lines.

The link above shows the original “blog” on the subject, and a selection of (edited) responses to our question posed are shown below.

Are you remotely controlling your television or is your television remotely controlling you?
Ysanne - No I'm not controlling the TV, the hubby is.
bandc - Haven't got a clue, as I am on my laptop.
Kev - lol! I never get to control the TV when the girlfriend's staying over. The TV is always on when I'm at home though, so I suppose it does have control.
Betty Boop - I am not going to get on my soap box about the government but these election's, I think they are all rigged. I have said this before. The government want us to believe that we are electing a new local MP or new PM by letting us vote.
Scouse - Don't often watch it. Most women folk are too much into soaps
bobgnote - The TV drags me like a big monkey pulling a yellow-hat!
seven - I control my TV, as I usually switch it off, get sick of the rubbish pushed down my throat! But I think 'big brother' would control us, given the chance that we were all as thick as they hoped!!! ;-) Now I know hoe 'Elvis' felt... But I ain't got his dosh...
Ellie - TV is a form of mass media. And aren’t we all really controlled by the mass media? It’s sad really.
Misty Blue - Sorry guys I was on the piss tonight did I miss you? Still love yous.
My middle son is a bassist in a heavy metal band, so “no” that didn't scare me. happy.gif
On topic: It’s all done in such a subtle way now.Semantics, dramatic background scenes, and eerie music. You wouldn't even realise it was seeping in. Fox & friends are the least subtle, they just make me laugh.
Subliminal - that was the word I was looking for! ‘Night Guys, you missed my very pertinent point, I’m in a huff now.
Poitin - Why have they synchronised ad time? Tune in to any digital 'sky' or other network channel on a break - each and every one are synchronised to bombard the viewer with mindless ads for cars, perfume, body re-adjustments etc.
Why is this? - Give the viewers a break, otherwise, like me you will end up refusing to watch any form or make of TV.

Oh, and my son turns the volume down every time an ad comes on - you can't fool the youth!

Not quite sure what Betty and Bob were alluding to, but it was good to see others knew what we were getting at…..
As for the rest of the show, amongst other things we introduced the "Euro Rock" of the Moldovian band “Unbreakable”; Tom disappeared into Ian's "Rock Vault"; and the International Voice Over Woman, Deborah De Vries, joined the team to understand the chaos behind the scenes.....
More newish music from The Answer and the "Countryish" style of the Deadstring Bros saw another packed 1st hour (Tom’s still threatening to do a “Country” show " “Yee Ha!!”………).
Part 2 was almost even more hectic as we continued to promote “Unbreakable” as our featured artist, gave a play to the Oblivion Kings, Voodoo Six (ahead of their shows in Kettering at the end of the month), and Nexus Bloom (who will be our featured artist next week.....).
Here’s the full playlist……
