timooo counting the days - Subscribe
this whole bmt experience has been pretty fun so far. tough at the right times, slack at the right times. one thing for sure is, im really dreading the return to the office in less than 2 weeks time. i actually prefer the life i have right now.
really.
even though i cant book out except for weekends.
sigh.

gonna make the most of the rest of my remaining days as L4213 before going back my sedentary ns life.

time to book in!

i realised that i havent blogged about my favourite blogging topic for a long time: buses!

nah jus kidding. but there's something that really irks me about the new buses nowadays.

(please wait for my next update if you're not interested in hearing me rant talk about buses again)

anyway, back to the topic. and this is gonna be a rather sensitive topic, mind you, so please, you have been warned.
(puts on airstewardess' voice)
if you feel uncomfortable at any time, please feel free to leave the premises and seek your entertainment elsewhere

okay.
you see many wheerchair-accessible-buses nowadays right. i'll jus call them wabbies for short.
anyway, now that singapore's transport minister wants to wheelchair-accessify (?) all the buses, we're getting more of these wabbies.

now, i have nothing against those nice, comfy double-decker wabbies.
but those single-decker wabbies are such turn-offs!
the number of seats (including those dreaded green-colored seats) is only 29! and there's so much standing space!

that's at least 20 less seats than the normal, standard single-decker buses. seriously, why do you want so much standing space? the answer is: to accomodate the wheelchairs.

now, again, a disclaimer. i have nothing against those wheelchair-bound people.
in fact, im trying to think in their point of view and not be a selfish able-bodied person.

a few questions now (assuming im disabled and have to move around in a wheelchair):
1) am i disabled to the point that i can ONLY move around in a wheelchair? YES.
2) if yes, why would i want to take public transport? COS ITS CHEAP, AND THE ALTERNATIVES ARE OWNING A CAR AND TAKING A CAB (WHICH IS DAMN EFFING EXPENSIVE, BUT THATS A TOPIC FOR ANOTHER TIME).
3) is it worth the hassle of someone wheeling me to the nearest bus stop so that i can take a bus? assuming im really stingy and cheapo, YES.
4) don't i feel bad about inconveniencing the other passengers while the bus driver helps me load up onto the wabbie? APPARENTLY, NO.
5) why don't i feel bad about it? COS I'M DISABLED AND I SHOULD BE PITIED AND TAKEN CARE OF BY THE ABLE-BODIED MAJORITY, TO THE EXTENT OF WASTING THEIR TIME AND CAUSING THE BUSES WAITING BEHIND TO CLOG UP (RESULTING IN MORE AND MORE PEOPLE WASTING THEIR TIME)
6) why should the government bother to convert all future buses to wabbies? APPARENTLY, COS WE'RE A MINORITY WHO DESERVES PITY.
7) is it even comfortable taking a wabbie when its crowded with standing passengers (assuming there's space to squeeze you in)? YES, COS IM STINGY AND CHEAPO (as stated above)
8) so, how often would you venture outdoors if you're disabled to an extent that you can only move about in a wheelchair? MAYBE ONCE EVERY FORTNIGHT, IF I'M LUCKY.
9) so, what is the whole point of the government converting all buses into wabbies? TO ACCOMODATE PEOPLE LIKE US WHO TAKE THE BUSES ONCE IN A WHILE
10) so, is this a case of the government working for the minority? I GUESS SO.
11) so, does that mean that the government should work for the minority? I GUESS SO.
12) so, who takes care of the majority? THEY CAN TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES, THOSE ABLE-BODIED BASTARDS.

again, its all my personal opinion only.
i may have missed out some points towards the end when all my pent-up frustration poured out, like a...dam bursting. erm. yeah.

time to go! adios.
