timooo picking up your own **** - Subscribe
im not sure if anyone caught the article in yesterday's straits times over the conundrums that ppl like me face when deciding whether to give up my seat on the mrt!

its good to know im not the only one thinking that way.
(even though i think the article is sorta sarcastic about it. it might even be jus for laughs)

anyway, i agreed with the point made by the writer. some of us are simply too polite, if that is possible. for the benefit of those who hadnt read the article, in short, some of us overly polite citizens baulk over giving up our seats simply because we dont wanna hurt their feelings. when we spot someone who is, perhaps, in need of a seat, we think: am i belittling him/her if i let him have the seat? would i hurt his/her feelings? would he/she kick up a big fuss and embarrass all of us?

and so on.

so sometimes we simply decide to feign sleep to avoid having to get tangled into sticky situations.

however, yesterday's article also talked about how the singaporean social practice of not clearing his own table is due to the above reason.
which i think is absolute nonsense.

if you clear up your own mess, will you put the cleaners out of a job?
no!
because regardless of whether you return your trays or not, someone will still have to wash the plates and utensils, wipe the tables, etc etc.
not unless everyone is willing to wash their own plates and forks and spoons, which is as likely as singapore snowing tomorrow.

so that logic doesnt apply.
will you hurt the cleaner's feelings if you clear your own tray?
no.
will they kick up a big fuss if you clear your own tray?
no. (not unless they're damn screwed up)

so the author's logic doesnt hold, since they are 2 separate matters.
clearing your own tray is just, manners. why should other people pick up your shit for you?

disconnected.
its the reason im blogging so sparsely nowadays. probably the effects of tekong.
sometimes it just feels like we i'm shut off to the rest of the world (or at least singapore).

and im very disappointed at my bmt being postponed. it was something i've been looking forward to all the way since july!
no, seriously, im probably the only guy looking forward to bmt.
office is totally sian-ness.
overworked, underpaid.

been driving alone more frequently recently, though i still hafta go through multi levels of clearance (read: parents) before i get my hands on the keys remote.
and having to ignore them everytime they hint that i wash the car, pump the petrol (and pay for it), etc etc. not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, what to do?

i shld, like, just get my own car.
lucky draws, here i come!

but then, seriously, ive been so bored im thinking of getting a class 2b license. like going to learn something.
and since getting my own car in the foreseeable future is extremely unlikely, why not get a bike?

it feels stupid everytime i wait for a bus now that ive gotten my license.

but then, i guess i shld be grateful that i know how to drive.
