The 7th International Plastics Exhibition and Conference, “PLASTINDIA 2009” has been scheduled to be held from 4th February to 9th February at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. This is an exclusive exhibition on plastic technology, machinery product and raw material, providing the latest and the best in plastic materials for all manufacturing and processing industries alike. Organized by Plastindia Foundation every year, the fair has been organized on even a bigger scale this year inspired by the success in its previous years. Being a student of polymer, I have always hoped to be a part of such a large scale event that would enrich me with the latest technologies in the plastic industry. I visited the fair on its very first day.

The exhibition mainly caters to three categories of visitors. The first category is that of students of Indian polymer and plastic colleges who get a free entry if they pre-register on the website of the PLASTINDIA 2009. I did the same and hence, got a free entry. Business visitors from abroad who are not holding an Indian passport are the second category of the visitors. They too can get a free entry to the fair if they pre-register themselves on the official website of the fair. The third category of visitors comprise Indian business visitors who can get a discount of Rs100 on the 6-day entry pass, if they too pre-register themselves for the event. This international fair is open for the trade visitors from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm for the first 5 days. It will close at 5:00pm on 9th February.

I was extremely thrilled to find that this exhibition has been successful to showcase India as a global sourcing hub for plastics. To my surprise, there were over 986 Indian exhibitors who participated in this grand event. Being of international nature, the exhibition also attracted over 470 exhibitors from 35 countries across the world. They exhibited a wide range of products, including Injection moulding machines, blow moulding machines, machines and equipment for processing and recycling, extruders, machinery for foam reactive or reinforced resins, post processing machines, moulds and dies, ancillary equipment, test measuring equipment, parts and components, thermoplastic materials, additives and process auxiliaries, customized processing services, software and design. The fair is likely to attract over 1 lac people in these 6 days.

Business visitors at the exhibition included producers, retailers, wholesales, designers, importers, exporters, equipment suppliers, and distributors. Other visitors consisted of consultants, engineers, packaging and labeling software developers, researchers, government and embassy officials, and also people from different universities, institutes, associations, media and the advertising world.

The real attraction of the fair lies in its theme pavilions that include Agri-Park, Recycling Pavilion, Energy Conservation Pavilion, End User Pavilion, and also the First Global Plastics Recycling Contest. Both the Business Day and the Technology Day at the fair will be marked by many conferences and interactive summits. Also, you will be surprised to know that the Indian Airlines has announced a special scheme for the visitors and participants at PLASTINDIA 2009.
