The World Book Fair, which is held at Pragati Maidan exhibition complex in the capital, early February once every two years, offers a wonderful opportunity for book lovers, publishers, retailers, librarians and booksellers.
Publishers from countries like US, Japan, Canada, Malaysia, Mauritius, Bangladesh, Iran, Israel, Italy, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Germany participate in this book fair.
More than 1,400 publishers from nearly 25 countries are expected to take part this year in the 18th World Book Fair to be organized from February 2 to 10.

The highlight of the fair this year, to be organized by India Trade Promotion Organization, will be an “International Rights Exhibition” on books by and on Mahatma Gandhi, to coincide with his 60th death anniversary.
This World Book Fair is India's oldest book fair. Started in 1972, it is also the largest book fair in India and has a more economic side, supporting also the developing markets of neighboring countries.
India ranks third in the market for English publications and has more than 12,000 publishers who publish around 90,000 titles a year, in over 18 languages. India's main publishing is in Indian regional languages.
Booksellers, wholesalers, book retailers, librarians, literary agents and scouts, book buyers for specialty stores such as museums, toy stores and gift stores and general public are the target visitors of this fair.
The displays at the fair include books, periodicals and journals published both in and outside India, newspapers, teaching aids and educational materials, stationery, library and other services.
The World Book Fair also offers an opportunity for the exchange of translation, co-publishing and reprint rights.
Around 1300 publishers from 18 foreign countries and international bodies such as ILO, WHO, UNICEF and European Union among others attended the 17th World Book Fair held from January 27 to February 4, 2006.
Spread over 36,000 square meters in eight halls of the sprawling Pragati Maidan complex, the World Book Fair covers nearly 2300 stalls.
Cultural activities and different programs involving eminent personalities are conducted during the fair to promote the reading habits of the general public.
