Weekend Updates

Hey all,

Here's an IMPORTANT UPDATE. Because of how hard you have all been working for the past few practices, we will be having practice at 12:30PM tomorrow so you all can sleep in an extra bit and get some well-deserved rest. So we will meet at Midvale at 10:45AM SHARP. Keep in mind this is our LAST PRACTICE, so let's bring our A game. Remember, with this extra time, eat a healthy meal in the morning so you all are energized for practice. We will also be calling each of you later tonight to remind you of the later practice time.

Also, here's the link to the Fremont Sprint race results:

For those who wanted more information on the China race, here's information sent from Wila. They will be taking an all-star crew of 10 paddlers, 2 alternates and they will have open time trials for tryouts down in Long Beach. Double-weekend practice will begin right after Long Beach up until the race which will be from 9/24 - 10/4-5. If you have any questions or want to participate in this race, e-mail David at davidmaoyang@gmail.com.

Dr. Chen would like to take an all-stars college team to participate in the First International College 10-man boat tournaments in Tianjin. This will be held on 10/1-2, with teams from 12 different countries invited to attend. Before that race, we will also be competing in Shanghai in an International 10-man tournament on 9/25-26. After Tianjin, we'll travel to Beijing on 10/3 for a special event. Much details and dates are still being worked out, but expect the trip to be about 7-9 days. Perhaps leaving the US on 9/24 and returning on 10/4-5.

As for costs, Dr. Chen has generously offered to subsidize some of the expenses, which includes RT airfare, local transportations, hotels, food, uniforms, etc. So he is asking each participant to contribute $500. The rest will be covered by ICEA.

Needless to say, this is a very rare and special opportunity, not only is it a chance for you to represent the US in two dragon boat tournaments and compete against the best of the World, but it's a chance for you to experience Chinese culture and visit some of the most famous sites in China!!!!

Remember everyone, meet at 10:45AM tomorrow at Midvale!
