This entry explains how to Create a (RDP) Remote Desktop Connection Shortcut on Windows 7, XP, & Server 2003.

Nobody likes to type an IP or network address if you do not have to. At work we have so many IP's it's hard to track, whats what.

I personally like to use mRemote to manage network connections, but here is a simple way just to create a remote desktop connection so that all you have to do is double click an icon for remote access.

How to Create a Remote Desktop Connection Shortcut
  • Go to your desktop
  • Right click on it
  • Create new shortcut
  • In the Type the location of the item enter this
  • mstsc.exe /v:192.168.0.111 /w:800 /h:600
  • Be sure to change the 192.168.0.111 to the IP that you wish to connect to remotely
  • Notice the w:800 & h:600 - This is the width and the height of the remote desktop connection window upon double clicking. You can change these values at any time to suit your window.
  • To go full screen with your remote desktop connection shortcut simply remove w:800 /h:600 and replace it with /f

    How to Reverse the Order of Adobe Acrobat PDF Pages
    1. Open Adobe Acrobat
    2. Go to File
    3. Find the PDF File in which you would like to reverse the pages
    4. Now press CTRL+P or Apple+P to open a print dialog box
    5. Check mark reverse pages (This will be under the print range section)
    6. Now select the drop down menu under Printer
    7. Adobe PDF
    8. Hit the Ok button
    9. Now save the document


    Your pages will now be reversed for you from 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

    Entry explains How To Restrict Access To Network Drives in on Windows. Do you have a shared or public pc that many users use? If so you can restrict them from external network drives using the local group policy.

    (Windows 7 & Vista only)

    How To Restrict Access To Network Drives in on Windows
    1. First type gpedit.msc in the search box of the Start Menu and hit Enter.
    2. Now go to User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows Explorer. Then on the right side under Setting, double click on Prevent access to drives from My Computer.
    3. Select Enable then under Options from the drop down menu you can restrict a certain drive, a combination of drives, or restrict them all. The main drive you would probably want to restrict is the C:\ drive or which ever lettered drive Windows is installed on. Restricting all drives means they can’t access the CD or DVD drive, and cannot use a flash drive if they need to get files from it. Note: This setting won’t prevent users from using programs that access the local drives.
    4. The restrictions take effect immediately, no restart is required. When a user opens up My Computer they’ll be able to see which drives are listed, but when they try to access a restricted drive, they’ll get the following error message.
    5. Keep in mind that Local Group Policy allows you to customize several settings for how you want to administer your machine. Restricting access to certain drives in addition to other security and access measures, can help keep a shared computer stable and secure.

    Ever wanted to get access to your music, videos, and other media on your home pc from work, or while traveling? Well, Windows 7 makes this process easy. Below is all you will need to get started.

    Requirements:
  • Windows 7 Business and above
  • Windows Media Player 11
  • Decent internet connection


    Windows 7 How to Remotely Stream Music and Videos from Home
    1. Go to Start
    2. All Programs
    3. Windows Media Player
    4. If the player is open and you're in Now Playing mode, click the Switch to Library button in the upper-right corner of the Player.
    5. Click Stream
    6. Turn on home media streaming
    7. On the Media streaming options page, click Turn on Allow Access to Home Media. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    8. Click on Link an Online ID
    9. Click Add an online ID provider (Keep in mind an Online ID provider must be installed on your machine in order to link an online ID to your Windows user account.)
    10. You should now be directed to: Windows 7 online ID providers.
    11. Download Download for 32-bit
    12. Install the software
    13. Type your user name and password for the online ID to sign in, and then click OK.
    14. In the Internet Home Media Access dialog box, click Allow Internet access to home media. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    15. Click OK.


    Keep in mind when trying to Stream Music and Video's in Windows 7
  • If your computer is on a public network, you will be prompted to change the network location before you can stream media. For more information about network locations, see Choosing a network location.

  • If you have set up a homegroup, you might be prompted to share your media libraries with your homegroup before you can stream media. For more information about sharing libraries with a homegroup, see Share libraries with your homegroup.

  • To send and receive your home media streams over the Internet, the current version of Windows Media Player must be installed on the computers you plan to use.

  • The home computer used to stream media can't be on a public network or joined to a domain.

  • A linked online ID can be associated with 10 Windows user accounts.

  • Internet access to home media isn't available on Windows 7 Starter or Windows 7 Home Basic

    So we all have hundreds if not thousands of digital photo's on our internal and external hard drives, but the questions is how do we organize them like the pro's do? Here is how I plan on doing it.

    How to Organize Digital Photos Like The Professionals
    Right now I have an I:\ drive where I store all of my photo's along with other needful items that I do not plan on listing here. Well one of my directories is:

    Pictures

    Inside of my pictures directories I have:
  • Photo's
  • PSD's
  • Wallpaper
  • Web

    Photo's is what we are looking at in this entry. Well I figured that the easiest way to organize your pictures is by creating a directory. (which I have) that describes the images stored with in it. eg: Halloween 2008 Inside of my Halloween 2008 folder I have pictures of Milani trick-or-treating (my daughter). Well rather than labeling the directory, 'Halloween 2008'...I plan on listing it as:

    2008-10-31 - Halloween Windows will recognize the year 2008 first, the month, and final the day and place them in sequential order.

    Once you have placed all your pictures in directories, and properly labeled them by year, month, day. It is now time to use your favorite photo management software. Many of the pro's use expression, but personally I enjoy using Adobe Light Room for meta labeling, and Google Picasa for facial remembrance.

    Either path you choose to take, Adobe Light Room, Google Picasa, or another 3rd party program always label the directories of the images that you purge from your camera on to your PC.

    Here is a list of my primary directories in my Picture folder. Your are more than welcomed to use this as an outline for your digital photo organization.
    1. Animals
    2. Architecture
    3. Environment
    4. Events
    5. Family
    6. Friends
    7. Home
    8. Objects
    9. Office
    10. Screenshots
    11. Travel
    12. Work

    Explain on how to create a complete walkthrough on how to make Windows 7 Upgrade a full install. Paul Thurott and a friend over at the SuperSite Blog have worked out how to perform a clean Windows 7 install using the upgrade disc. Come again?

    That's right: save $80 and buy the Windows 7 Upgrade disc, because you can use it to perform a clean, full-featured installation.

    How to Make Windows 7 Upgrade a Full Install

    1. Perform a clean installation using the Upgrade disc -- this should work without a hitch.
    2. Make sure there are no Windows Updates pending -- if there's an orange shield icon next to the Shutdown button in the Start Menu, that means you need to reboot before attempting the next steps.
    3. Open 'regedit.exe' from the Start Menu -- just type it in there, where it says: Search programs and files. Accept the User Account Control dialogue that pops up to give yourself Windows 7 superpowers.
    4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
    5. Change MediaBootInstall from '1' to '0'
    6. Open the Start Menu again and type 'cmd' -- use ctrl+shift+enter to run it as an elevated-permissions user
    7. Finally, type slmgr /rearm -- and press enter.


    Your computer will now reboot and run the Activate Windows utility. Type in your product key and you should be good to go.

    Resize software by Peter Bone. I use to use this software back in the day. Excellent image software for batch resizing. I am posting this as an entry becouse Geocities is going down permanently on October 25, 2009. So to pay tribute I am posting this for everyone else to enjoy.

    As stated from the website.
    Resize allows you to resize images. Reduction is done by pixel averaging, which gives much better quality than sub-sampling. The program allows you to resize a batch of images and also convert to JPEG. This is useful for creating thumbnails for web pages or resizing the frames for animated gifs.



    The resizing algorithm produces high quality images because it uses all available information from the source image. Most other image resizing software only use a small amount of information from the source image.

    Since I figured many of you were having this same problem I did with your equipment, I decieded to post this How to Install Drivers for M-AUDIO Fast Track Ultra Windows 7 64-BIT.

    Can you believe it? I finally got my M-AUDIO Fast Track Ultra USB to work on Windows 7 64 BIT. Here is what I did:

    Windows 7 64-BIT Driver Installation for M-AUDIO Fast Track Ultra
    1. Download the Vista 64 BIT Driver from M-Audio
    2. Save the download: FTU_V64_5_10_00_5099.exe file to your desktop
    3. Right click on FTU_V64_5_10_00_5099.exe
    4. Go to properties
    5. Go to compatiability tab
    6. Check mark Run this program in compatibility mode for:
    7. Select Windows Vista
    8. Under Privlege Level, check mark Run this program as an administrator
    9. Click ok
    10. Now proceed the installation of the driver


    Pretty cool huh? No need to wait for M-AUDIO to release the fix for there installation wizard!

    Windows 7 has a pretty awesome new screen shot utility that allows you to highlight a part or all of your screen and save it to .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, and .HTML (.MHT). Well what if you were able to assign a hotkey to the snipping tool for easier access? Wouldn't hurt, huh?

    Here's How to Assign a Hot Key Short Cut to the Snipping Tool in Windows 7.

    1. Start
    2. All Programs
    3. Go to Accessories
    4. Right Click on Snipping Tool
    5. Select Properties
    6. Now simply enter in the shortcut key text box something like CTRL+F12.
    7. Ok

    Now every time you press CTRL+F12 simultaneously your Windows Snipping Tool will be available. Keep in mind you can do this with many windows programs.

    This entry explains How to Delete or Uninstall Internet Explorer Add-Ons. I read on the microsoft website today that the end user is not able to uninstall / remove Internet Explorer Add-On's. Well you know me, I won't settle for that.

    How to Uninstall / Remove Internet Explorer Add-Ons, here is how I figured it out.

    1. Open Internet Explorer
    2. Manage Add-Ons
    3. Find the Add-On on the list Manage Add-On List
    4. Highlight it
    5. Click on More Information
    6. Click on Remove

    Easy enough? Wonder if MS overlooked this. happy.gif

    Now then, if the Remove button is not highlighted or it does not allow you to remove the Add-On, this means that their is a program that you installed associated with the Internet Explorer Add-On. To fix this, simply remove the installed program, and if needed start from step 1 of this entry.

    Windows 7 64-BIT Driver for M-AUDIO Fast Track Ultra

    So I decided to do some gaming today on the PC. I rarely do it...for the fact that I feel that I am ignoring my family while I proceed to frag the opposing team. happy.gif

    Well today I found out that on my NEW PC that my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra audio / mini is not supported by Windows 7. I mean, sure I have the RPM and I understand that Windows 7 is not released...but what the heck. Shouldn't it at least work in compatibility mode with Windows XP? Dammit, what luck.

    The error message that I receive is: This device is not supported by the Windows Operating System that you are running. Typical Windows error, but that's ok I guess. Seems as though M-Audio is working hard to release the drivers soon.

    This entry will show you How to Create Lock Restart & Shutdown Icons in Windows 7 & Vista. This process is as simple as creating a shortcut, adding a command to that shortcut, then simply adding an icon to accompany it. Let me show you how to do it with the shutdown button.

    1. Right click the Desktop
    2. New
    3. Shortcut
    4. Enter in the browse location
    5. Shutdown.exe -s -t 00
    6. Name the shortcut 'Shutdown'
    7. Now right click the new shortcut
    8. Properties
    9. Change Icon*
    10. Choose the Shutdown Icon
    11. Ok


    * NOTE: If you do not have a list of icons go back to step #9 and enter this in the browse section: %SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll

    1. Presentation options - Win Key + P
    2. Hide all but the active window (just like AeroShake) - Win Key + Home
    3. Navigate through taskbar items - Win Key + T
    4. Show desktop gadgets (bring to front) - Win Key + G
    5. Start Mobility Center - Win Key + X
    6. Select systray - Win Key + B
    7. Magnify desktop - Win Key + Plus Key; reduce magnification - Win Key + Minus Key
    8. Maximize current window - Win Key + Up; Restore/Minimize - Win Key + Down
    9. Dock window on the desktop side: select window and Win Key + Left/Right Key
    10. Window switch Win Key + Tab. Reverse switch order Win Key + Shift + Tab

    2. In the Windows Search for Program Box
    3. Search for Command
    4. Right Click it
    5. Run As Administrator
    6. In the command prompt type
    7. slmgr -rearm
    8. Enter

    10. Now check your day's left. By going to Start > Right click > My Computer > Properties > Scroll down to Windows Activation
