Some desire to speak concisely and cleverly and for the most part pull it off successfully. However, there are times when one’s brain is quite determined to malfunction! It is in these trying times that we depend on some good ‘ole standby words to lighten up the conversation and get us through our stumbling, bumbling, and jumbling sentences. Here is a selection of my favorite substitute words (although some are not recognized as words): Whatchamacallit Thingy Thingamabob Thingamajig Doohickey Doomahitchy Doomaflatchy I hate when I cannot think of a word!
